I am writing as someone who is fluent in Eastern and Western Armenian. I was interested in this app in order to be able to refer it to others. The app has a lot of wonderful points, but there are two major drawbacks. One, it would be great to be able to switch between Eastern and Western pronunciation in the settings. Two, the pronunciation guide needs revision. Some of the examples are awkward, while others of the Western pronunciation descriptions are incorrect.
For example:
There is no “th” (as in the word “thin”) sound in Armenian. Թ is pronounced the same in Eastern as in Western Armenian; as a voiceless aspirated alveolar plosive, as the “t” in the word “top.” There was similarly no “ph” sound as in “phone” in Armenian originally. The letter փ is a voiceless aspirated bilabial plosive, as the “p” in the letter “pot,” also the same as Eastern Armenian. The letter ֆ, which was added post-classically (mostly for being able to transliterate from other languages), is pronounced as the “f” in “four.”
