Description

Combine this app with the LEGO DC Super Heroes App-Controlled Batmobile (76112), the LEGO City Cargo Train (60198), or the LEGO City Passenger Train (60197) (each sold separately) to operate the motorized engines via Bluetooth controls, or use your imagination and build entirely new creations using LEGO Powered Up components and bring them to life by coding them. Make your models move and respond to real-world events.

The LEGO Powered Up app puts you in the driver’s seat of the awesome 4-wheel-drive Batmobile to speed through the streets of GOTHAM CITY™. Drive forwards, backwards, left and right… or pull 360-degree turns! You can even activate cool tricks and stunts as you become the Dark Knight and fight crime. You can customize and code your Batmobile tricks and choose your sounds and movements – pretty awesome!

The LEGO Powered Up app also controls LEGO trains to haul goods or pick up passengers around LEGO City. You can control the speed, change directions, and bring even more life to your play with various sounds such as a whistle, passenger announcement, railroad crossing bell, and more! The Bluetooth remote control app and the remote control handset included in the LEGO City train sets aren’t compatible with older infrared remote-controlled LEGO train sets.

Thanks to Powered Up components like hubs, motors, sensors, and lights you will be able to bring your customized creations to life. You can also bring your existing LEGO models to life.

Ready for an early Christmas present? We are super excited to reach this milestone in our digital system in play, with LEGO Powered Up 3.0. With this update, we hope to further empower your creativity and enable all of you to rebuild the world. Also, we have a fresh new look!

What’s new?

· For those of you that have more than one hub, good news, you are now able to connect, address, code, and control multiple hubs (up to four actually).

· The app now fully supports the new LEGO TECHNIC hardware. You are now able to connect the new LEGO TECHNIC hub and use the internal tilt sensor, as well as the new LEGO TECHNIC motors. For the real techy ones, the app can read values from internal sensors (orientation (X, Y, Z), and acceleration (X, Y, Z) of the TECHNIC Medium Hub (Hub128). From the app, you can pair motors on port AB, and CD. The app also supports the TECHNIC Large Linear Motor (Motor no. 2) and TECHNIC XL Linear Motor (Motor no. 3). From the app, you can regulate power, speed, and position of motors.

· Last but not least, the app has gotten a makeover! We’ve given the interior of the two lobbies a thorough clean-up and made it easier for you to create new projects. We’ve also cleaned up the canvas a bit, and don’t worry, all of your canvas features are still available in the little menu in the bottom right corner.

KFH_84,
Very Interesting! (Could be a bit better)
I recently purchased the Grand Piano set, and it pretty much worked the way I expected (I didn’t go in thinking each note could play separately).

However, I feel it could be made better with the addition of custom / recorded sound effects inside of the Powered Up app’s “create” section. Or even the ability to add in a specific sound effect of piano notes for the 25 keys. As it stands, I’ve been able to make it trigger silly sound effects like robot noises or dog barks and cat meows, which obviously make no sense for a grand piano. :)

This would allow people to program the piano to play a set of notes of a custom song as the keys are triggered (similar to how it currently works with its play function), or even play a set bit of recorded audio - much like the previous boost app was able to do.

Other than that, the piano / app work very well, and are very enjoyable as a set piece with simple controls!
YTheNord,
Very Very Disappointed
I have spent over $1000 on Lego technic sets and 1000s of hours building, finally though after much play, adjusting, and learning with the machines I bought, they started to break down. I heard I could customize it program what I wanted,(from a YT channel with over 200k subscribers) very excited at this proclamation, I got started and dismantled my Leibherr R 9800, I already spent hours make a simple truck using on motor to steer and one to drive, instead of programming I just used the same template for the “Off road buggy” worked fine, but I then decided to make a more powerful machine with to XL motor inputs for much more power only problem is that when you have gears opposite of each other they spin counter of one another, thinking I could just change that in the programming I was dismayed to realize there is no ‘math’ section in the coding whether it’s my phone, my model of motors, or software I cannot for the life of me do something that should be simple. Respectively it’s not Legos fault, it may be but more than not it’s something on my end, I can still build and use these motors, it’s just within a certain guideline. -YThenord

KnightCode,
Missing BOOST
Came to this via the Lego Star Wars BOOST app, which is reaching EOL this fall, much to my dismay, and we were directed to this app as the replacement…. This is a much more hastily thrown together app than that one was, and I’m disappointed that where Warner Bros IP is available in this app, none of the Star Wars content is here. I hope they port the programming elements from that app over to this one if they intend for us to use that hardware here, so that we can still have all the droid sounds and reactions, along with programming elements that were already designed for a move hub in these configurations.

Moreover, I’m skeptical about investing any more into this for the kids if they’re not able to commit to supporting the software in the long the run. IOS apps take yearly maintenance, and it doesn’t seem like LEGO is committed to the effort. So I need to wait to see how long this one last, or I need some kind of statement from LEGO about their long term plans with this platform.
mghebrialjr,
Needs documentation
Most of the app works great now (it used to be really finicky), but figuring out how to use it is really challenging. Most block coding environments have either a basic description of what each block does, or words on the blocks, but the LEGO powered up app provides no such descriptions. It seems that LEGO has backed themselves up into a corner by trying to making the app understandable by kids as well as attempting to achieve the full functionality of the Powered Up system. Adding a text programming mode (with Python or some other simple language) that unlocks the full functionality and contains thorough documentation while reducing the complexity of the block programming is the path that LEGO should take. (I am aware that the new Mindstorms system will be programmable in Python, I am hoping that that will be compatible with the rest of Powered Up)

Controls won’t work
At first the app was working really well, but then some problems started appearing, firstly, some of the controls just stopped working, (specifically the speed, the slower parts were the non working ones) I tried the battery on the train, I tried un-installing and re-installing the app, the list goes on. Secondly, you can rename the power piece of your vehicle, the only problem is it won’t let you rename the power price of your vehicle, you’ll delete the name and it will glitch right back on. Very frustrating indeed. And even if you write the name before it glitches, it’ll just glitch on top of it. All of it is just very infuriating, the only reason I’m keeping this app is I need it to power my train.
DaveJ456,
No instructions
This app looks promising but has no instructions or troubleshooting. The intro video did NOT play on my phone or my wife’s iPhone. The app appears to connect to my son’s train via Bluetooth because I can see battery life and the device name. However the train doesn’t move and the controls don’t work... when I press a button nothing happens. I can’t find any help or instructions anywhere. Legos are typically a premium product but the experience with this app is disappointing. I have tried the LEGO website and instructions there are not clear either.
alejandro b,
Good, but needs updates
Got this app for the Lego grand piano. It works well, but a couple of things would make it much better:
- the motor resets when going into play mode, but it spins longer than it needs to. It feels like it’s damaging the motor and I cringe every time
- PLEASE make it so that it keeps the phone awake while playing music! Very frustrating to be listening to a piece and watching the movement, only to have it abruptly stop because my phone shut off the screen. Most apps override this when playing video or other content, please fix!
80sonpurple,
Suggestions for this app
I have a two suggestions for this app
1.Add support for LEGO Boost:The lego Star Wars boost app and the regular lego boost app are shutting down later this year so it would be cool if the ability to use lego boost sets was added
2.The lego mindstorms commander app is still up, but it’s very old right now. What if you added the ability to use the lego mindstorms sets with this app. That would be cool

It’s up to you whether you want to add this stuff or not though. I’m just providing ideas for the app.
Jushie25,
Works Great 👍
Connected to my Batmobile almost immediately within one minute. Great simple instructions didn’t even need to watch video. Great STEM activity for kids and adults of all ages. Even though the car itself is very pricey, would recommend for everyone. App was just amazing too! Keep up the good work LEGO looking forward to seeing what other STEM products you come out with!!
Adrian_Gallo,
No way to exit the app
So I downloaded this app onto my iPhone X. Connected via Bluetooth to the new LEGO Batmobile and everything works fine. EXCEPT when I’m done with the app and want to exit the app, I can’t! Swiping up on my phone to go back to home screen or to show all open apps doesn’t work. The app simply does not allow you to. Only way to close the app is to power off the iPhone via the volume down button and the main button on the opposite side and then swiping the phone off. EXTREMELY ANNOYING. Going to return the batmobile if there is no immediate fix. What a horrible experience after spending well over two hours to put something together that totally locks up your phone.
