speedracer #6290,
Best lego idea ever!😀
So I have the top gear lego rally car and the thing has had zero problems since I got it on Christmas in 2020. Not to be rude, but for any critics out there, when you say you have a “problem” with the app and set, rebuild it first because most of those other comments are easy fixes. As I said earlier, the cars are great and I have had so much fun with it so far: I just wish an update or upgrade could make it faster. If not possible or hard to do, then don’t bother because you guys worked hard and made a great product. Thanks once again for reading this if you do.
nutjob,
Surprising Every Step of the Way
I tricked some relatives into getting me the Liebherr Excavator for a major holiday fully expecting either a smarter than average Power Functions or dumber than an average Mindstorms experience. I also expected a lot of Bluetooth headaches.

What I got was nothing short of phenomenal. Connections were flawless and painless. Firmware updates were transparent—if long. The model testing along the way barely hinted at what was possible. Ultimately the total package completely blindsided me, but in the best way.

The app is flawless: it holds your hand just enough while encouraging exploration through its achievements and rewards. Don’t like multi-touch? They’ve got you covered. While I’d rather use a text editor to program it, you can get somewhat sophisticated dragging control blocks around. And they really undersell the hardware! The app shows you the tilt of the model, updating in real time—but there’s no mention of an accelerometer or gravity sensor anywhere. What other things can it do? I’m certainly curious to get the other Control+ models now!

I can’t go 5 stars, though, because the app seems hard-coded for three LEGO models. But LEGO is all about taking things apart and making your own creations too. Yet I can’t find a way to, for example, say that “port A is the release motor on my catapult” if I disassembled the Liebherr and made a steampunk trebuchet, for example. I can rebuild my LEGO bricks, but not the app, I guess.
gnocchi_the_cat,
Great, needs work
I got the top gear rally car as a gift and had a super smooth time connecting with the app. I found the calibration super useful and the manual transmission fun to use. I did have a little problem with the gyro control though, it seemed like the sensitivity was very iffy sometimes I would have to turn my phone all the way to portait mode for a turn and other times it felt like a small bump would make the car turn a lot.

One last thing is that control+ should support custom control setups because making things into other things is what Legos all about. I think the mindstorms app is a good example of a good custom control system. I made a tank with my rally car but had to use a third party app to control it.

Thanks for your time. I hope you consider my idea.
NOPE-1113,
This is sooo cool
Lego thout of everything. Im sure theyve thout of even costome vehicle controles n stuff too but they havent added q blank vehicle slot from the vehicle choice list in the app. Id much like to see this so id be able to mess around with a vehicle of my own design from my phone. Overall i love the capability of my off-road Mercedes truck. Its the only one in my technic controle+ collection but now id like to build my own car or truck. Maby with more parts and maby a 5 speed transmission or something. The limits are endless with lego
Diamond Sloth,
CAT Bulldozer glitch
So I had built the CAT bulldozer and I’ve found a bug where whenever I try to properly connect it, things are not properly synced up. I try to program one part of the set but I moves another part. I’ve tried moving the blade of the set but it always moves the ladder. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times, checking the wires to the battery box, and even trying to use the app on a different device and still having the same issue. The app is great but this glitch is making it impossible for me to enjoy this set to its fullest. I can’t tell if it’s a user issue or an issue with the app overall so some help would be nice.

-Thanks, Jordan
Starkiller132435,
It works, but could be better
The app works. You can control the LEGO sets with it and for the Liebherr excavator it will do calibration. As you build the set you can test the parts you’ve built.
One thing that would make the app better is if you could customize it more. For example, I’d like to built a motorized catapult, but you can’t customize the controls. For the Leibherr 4 of the controls for the motors have a limited range because of the pistons, which works well for the build as intended, but if you want to make your own build it can be an issue. Also, as far as I know there’s no way to make the controls ‘sticky’ so you have to hold them down.
The app works, but it could be better.
LUplayer,
Unintuitive Controls
I own the new RC Buggy and was looking forward to using the app with it, but when I got it connected, I found the controls very difficult to use. Whenever I wish to turn the vehicle, it often times stops completely and reverses direction because my finger went down far enough to do so, since both gas and steering are on the same button. This makes the car almost unusable if you need a lot of steering. There should definitely be a toggle option to two separate controls, one for steering and one for gas, with the other fun buttons in the middle of the screen instead. Please consider this solution as I don’t want to have to return the buggy because of bad controls, of all things.

The app also crashes when you are in your first battle match and are losing, preventing you from getting any further.
DriPhoneGamer,
Really well made, bad controls
First of all, the app is great, simple, easy to use, it links up to the lego hub EXTREMELY easy. Lego has really done well with making using the app and the lego together almost flawless in my experience. The only problem is that the controls for using the buggy is extremely hard to use. Having one joystick that controls all movement is hard, please for the love of all legos at least add the option to have two joysticks to control the buggy.

Basically I’m a 27 year old who wants the option for more control and less sound effect buttons and I’m taking two stars because it really does take away a major portion of the experience in my opinion. The lego set gets a 5 star!
LetitiaB,
Best Lego app ever! Flawless
I got the Mercedes Benz Zetros Trial Truck and that thing is a beast! I also got the technic 6-wheeler (which isn’t part of this app) and then made it into a four-wheeler. It’s looks dope with the muscle truck and then the off-roader on the back. Also the connections were flawless and easy and the instruction were easy to follow. (Both the build and the driving) Overall a great Lego product!
all da nicknames taken,
You asked me for my rating, so here it is.
The controls for the 4X4 X-treme Off-Roader are counter-intuitive. Driving forward/back is on the right, and steering is on the left, which is the opposite of how every other remote control car works (including the LEGO Crawler from 2012).

The app crashes often, and it takes quite a while to load.

The steering is glitchy. It sometimes steers the car without any input (although this problem exists with other apps as well, so this is most likely an issue with the Technic hub, not the app itself).

And finally, the thing that made me write this review: The app interrupted me while I was controlling the car and asked me to rate the app. I have In-App Ratings & Reviews turned off in Settings, so not only is this super annoying, but it’s also against Apple’s guidelines. This app should be removed from the App Store until LEGO removes this.
