In Bhutan, Local government bodies were established in districts in 1981 and gewogs in 1991. The purpose was to promote people's active participation in expressing their priorities and developing local plans based on these priorities. Today, the local government bodies have become the highest decision-making authority in the 20 districts and 205 gewogs.
The LG app Bhutan is an innovative platform for providing information about Local governance in Bhutan. It aims to engage and empower citizens of Bhutan to meaningfully engage in participatory local governance.
The key features in the LG app Bhutan:
-It offers an avenue for accessing the 17 chapters of the Local Government Acts of Bhutan, and its rules and regulations.
-The contents can be accessed in both English and Dzongkha. After installation, users will be prompted to select any of the preferred languages. Similarly, the languages can be switched timely as per users’ preference.
-All the chapters and contents of the Local Government Acts of Bhutan can be accessed alternatively through the audio format. The audio format provides voice narration of all contents. Users can switch swiftly between the conventional “read” format and “audio” format as per their preference.
-Users can share the app on various social media platforms through the ‘Share’ option available on the home page.
-Users can submit their queries and suggestions through the ‘Feedback” option available on the home page.
-For more assistance and help, the users can contact the app officials by clicking on the phone icon present on the home page. Users can either call or click on the “Visit our website” button for help as mentioned on the home page.
