Description

Linky lets you easily share webpage links, images and text extracts to Mastodon and Bluesky from your iPhone and iPad.

Write your post, choose which preferred social networks and Linky will do the rest! You can connect Linky to Mastodon and Bluesky.

Linky's very own iOS Share Extension allows you to post messages without ever leaving third-party applications.

Want to share a webpage Link? Linky can insert both the url and the title of the webpage as required. Linky will suggest images related to shared links and can attach them to your messages. It can also shorten links, giving you access to further link analytics.

How about selected text in Safari? Linky's Web Clipper extracts selected text and carries it over to the composer sheet, ready for you to edit. You can also make a text shot from the text selection for sharing as a beautiful image.

What about a great photo? Share images easily from Photos app and third-party applications. You can also preview the shared image in fullscreen before sending it.

Share any text too! Bring up the extension, the text is copied in the message, edit if required and share. It's that simple.

Use Markup to annotate, crop and edit images inline. Write or draw on the attachment, or add arrows and lenses, or obscure sensitive information.

"Linky 5.0 removes friction from sharing links, quotes, and images. I appreciate the intelligent use of Open Graph and Media Cards to save even more time, and I'm a fan of the deeper controls Linky brings when compared to the default share sheet. I can't recommend Linky enough." - MacStories

"Linky turbocharges sharing links and images from Safari or other apps supporting iOS extensions." 4/5 - Macworld

Version history

6.4
2023-09-25
This version adds support for Bluesky and brings optimizations for Mastodon and iOS 17.

- First-class integration of Bluesky with support for media cards, image attachments, and alt text.

- The character limit for Mastodon now depends on the configuration of your instance (it is usually 500 characters, but not always). Note that it may take several hours to get the correct value in the user interface.

- Makes some optimizations for iOS 17. Linky now requires iOS 16 or higher.
6.3.8
2023-08-02
Fixed a bug that could prevent Linky being opened from Safari.
6.3.7
2023-07-20
This update removes Twitter integration from Linky.

Twitter has changed its policy regarding third-party application access to its network and no longer provides a reasonable offer that would allow Twitter to continue to be integrated into Linky. We had no alternative but to remove Twitter support from Linky.
6.3.6
2023-03-28
- Added the ability to copy or share attached images: long press the image thumbnail and select the action in the contextual menu.
- Modernized code base for future proofing.
- Linky now requires iOS 15 or later.
6.3.5
2023-01-16
Added support for modern contextual menus with previews in the message editor: long-press the “Link”, “Title” or “Text Clip” buttons in the toolbar to get a quick preview.
6.3.4
2023-01-08
# Improved Universal Music Links feature

- Added the possibility to use Songwhip as an alternative to Songlink. Go to "Settings > Extension Settings > Universal Music Links" to choose your preferred service.

- Linky now gets the short URL link for both Songwhip and Songlink.

- Fixed a bug where song tracks links went to their corresponding album.

# Other additions

- Added a link to our Mastodon account in the settings. You can follow us at @[email protected].
- Fixed a bug that would prevent to add pictures with the webp format from the photos picker.
6.3.3
2022-12-31
- Added support for attaching an alternative text (alt-text) to the images. It works for both Twitter and Mastodon.

To add an alternative text, tap on the image thumbnail to open the image editor -or- long press the image thumbnail and select the action in the contextual menu.

As a side note, for Text Shots, the text in the image has always been automatically attached as an alternative text. This behavior doesn't change with this update.

- Fixed a crash that could happen when attaching a large size photo in the Share Extension.

- Added some optimizations for iOS 16.
6.3.2
2021-01-21
- Added support for new iPhone (late 2020) screen sizes.
- Added support for new Photos privacy permissions introduced in iOS 14.
- Added support for extracting the text, links and pictures from Twitter tweet URLs.
- In order to have more transparency with clipboard usage, Clipboard Detection is now an opt-in preference that you can enable by going to “Settings > Clipboard Detection”. Like before, Clipboad Detection allows to check your clipboard for URLs and pictures to help you quickly add them to your messages. Like before, these checks only happen on your device and the clipboard content is not sent anywhere. Linky will ask if you want to turn on the feature when upgrading to this version.

# OTHER

6.2
2019-05-28
Linky 6.2 allows to make better Text Shots with two big new features: making text highlights and customizing the visual appearance.

Open the editor by tapping on the Text Shot thumbnail in the message composer. Here is what you can do:

∙ Making text highlights:
Swip over the text to highlight the parts you want people to pay attention to. You can make multiple highlights and choose between different colors.

Selecting the text is easy and fast because unlike a manual selection character by character, the selection is done by words. This is made possible by prior analysis of the text to determine the language and split it into sentences and words.

Once an initial selection is done, swiping the lower or upper bound moves the selection character by character so that it can be adjusted precisely if needed.

∙ Customizing the appearance:
Adjust the style between white, sepia, gray and black variants. Choose the text font and adapt other settings to make the Text Shot you like.

Choose the highlighted style: make it plain or select the natural style that uses a random highlighter texture varying with each line of text.

## OTHER IMPROVEMENTS:
- Added 2 new items in the tips gallery: “how to create universal music links” and “how to share to Messages, Mail and third party apps.”
- The application is now built using Swift 5 which reduces the app size by more than 40% on iOS 12.2+.
- Fixed Universal Music Links initiated from Apple Music app.
- Fix user interface glitches in the message composer.
- Removed Songwhip provider (Universal Music Links) due to an incompatibility introduced with recent changes in Apple Music.

6.0
2018-06-14
Linky 6 introduces an all new home screen.

# The in-app web browser is gone:
For years, the home screen was a web browser dedicated to sharing links. At the time it was useful as Safari didn't support third-party Share Extensions. It's now much easier to share links directly from Safari or your favourite browser using Linky's Share Extension. Note that it's still possible to compose messages directly in Linky or using the Automation URL Scheme.

# Two new onboarding screens:
A “Getting Started” section helps new users install the Share Extension and “Tips” helps you to make the most of Linky and learn helpful hints.

# Less obstructive clipboard management:
When Linky is launched with a URL in the clipboard, the link is now presented in a non-modal widget replacing the modal alert.

# And more:
- You can now drag and drop a URL from Safari into Linky for sharing the link.
- A refined image picker.
- Accessibility Improvments.
5.11.5
2017-11-13
Added support for sending tweets with up to 280 characters.
5.11.4
2017-11-03
- Optimized for iPhone X.
- Improved title and URL extraction for pitchfork.com.

busterbigby,
even better than you think
yes, it links articles, photos, almost anything easily to twitter and facebook. even better is that it has the text photo option: select text and hit the share extension and the highlight is captured as a photo (which you easily change back to text if that’s your preference.
and EVEN BETTER, is that once you hit the linky extension, it has it’s own sharing extension!!! sharing within sharing. SO, i can find link a text photo with the link and title easily to say Day One or some other capture app.

SO GOOD. i am still discovering ways to use it.
jblundy,
This app is magic!
I keep finding fun new settings that make sharing text shots and urls better. Highlighting in text shot images, url shorteners, and composing preferences bring Linky to the next level.

The one thing that would bring it to 5 stars for me would be syncing settings between devices.

Updated Review - 3 stars after reviewing the tutorial
I purchased & downloaded this because of the reviews and the authors’ ads saying it would help me putting quoted text and graphics, along with links on Facebook posts. That would be great! But the first few times I tried I couldn’t. The developer pointed me to a simple tutorial on using Linky, but I haven’t had time to wade through that yet.

I revised this rating from 1 to 3 stars after reviewing the tutorial.
Without a tutorial you may never get to use it
Shane O',
Text Shots haven’t worked for a long time.
That’s it, title.

To expand on this. I bought this app a long time ago specifically for Text Shots. They worked briefly, but after an iOS upgrade, can’t remember which one, they stopped, disappeared, aren’t even an option. I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, setup as new, used different devices. The feature is broken.

I redownload Linky periodically to see if it’s fixed, try it, then delete the app and forget about it until I want to share a huge chunk of text in a tweet. Then the cycle begins anew.

I’d love to be able to recommend this app, but it just doesn’t work.

**Edit: After reviewing their in-app tutorial, I’ve also noticed it does not copy URLs or titles and consequently will not offer to insert them. At the moment, all this app does is copy a paragraph, toss it into a share sheet and highlight most of it as red because it’s too big to tweet. Lol, it’s worse than I remembered.**
Raygan,
Great for Mastodon
There are lots of Mastodon clients out there now but some of them lack share extensions, and those that have them sometimes aren’t great. This is a world class share sheet extension with tons of features that will work no matter what Mastodon app or server you use. Super convenient!
drrjv,
Favorite ‘Posting’ App
This App makes it so easy to post content on Mastodon and other social media sites. It is a real Godsend! I use it as intended on Mastodon and also do a ‘copy and paste’ for text messaging and other functions. Glad to see developers continuing to support this favored App!
teaneedz,
Daily used app rocks!
It just works. I use both Masto and Twitter, so this app is perfect for me. I love how it grabs photos too from articles. The share extension is where this app really shines. I'd give this app 6 stars if I could. It's all about quickly sharing a link or post and moving on. Thank you for this app!
daught.me,
Must have for Twitter & Mastodon users
If you do any amount of link or image sharing to Twitter and/or Mastodon this is a great tool to have. Much better and feature rich experience than any Twitter app.

It’s actually a great way to cross-post to both Twitter and Mastodon even if it’s just a text post.
WTF_Actual,
powerful
This simple app is worth every cent if you’re delivering news on Twitter. Although I haven’t figured out how to use the annotation features, the text clipping and image attaching features are just what I’ve needed. It’s at the front of my share sheet.
TimBsTechTalk,
Very Practical
Facebook removed the iOS share option for fan pages, but this app fixes that, including the ability to select multiple images. Superb!
