J-Rads,
Needs a more straightforward posting interface.
Although the app has drastically improved recently, there is still room for improvement. I find the actual posting from the app to be really confusing... it just doesn’t look familiar like a legitimate way to post on LJ but rather like you’re adding to an Instagram story or something. It’s too confusing and I go back to my browser whenever I need to post so I don’t accidentally screw something up.
It’s also quite bothersome when you go to your main friends feed and at the very top are a bunch of random posts by random non-friends (no idea who these people are or why they’re showing up on my feed) directly below the words “Friends activity.” Despite that, I find the friends feed to be fairly simple and user friendly, an attractive way to display friend posts.
My biggest ask of LJ is to improve the actual posting portion of the app. It’s sooo unnecessarily confusing and, along with a functional friends feed, is the most important part of the app.
cattoylady,
Not very helpful
I like that LiveJournal is trying to update the app (last time I had the app was almost a decade ago, so it looks a lot different), but I am with all the others on the fact that this app isn’t working for me. It is not effective. I can’t post to communities for one, and the navigation isn’t powerful; I feel like there’s just not a lot of in app options when it comes to editing anything. The posting a new entry part is also way too odd; it doesn’t remotely look anything like the website and seems to just be more difficult to type a good post in than anything.

Please just update the old app or desktop program to be up to par with today’s technology and I will be happy.

Positing format is confusing
I really don’t care for the new post editor which they have like been advertising as a new thing for several years and then asked me every time if I want to do it on the browser but not so much in the app. When I post from the app it looks different from my browser when I go back in my journal and this is like extremely annoying to me.
On the positive side I do like how the images posted will kind of be like a profile photo for each of the posts. I do like that Instagram tape look as another comment or mentioned.
If I post from my app and I go on my browser it does not look like there’s anyway to edit it from my browser which is also annoying
Patrick Stein,
Past post problem
For some reason, the app isn’t letting me at more than around the last 20 posts. If I try on my phone browser it just puts me in the app. So there is no way to look back at my posts on the app. Why is this?? It didn’t use to be a problem.

It would also be nice if the Archive function or calendar view were available in the app.
Basademo,
Compared to the prior version it’s a lot better.
I go through this process with things in development. Initial version is crap, and it gets better over time. The initial version of blogger was buggy. It’s improved. This is improving: pay attention. Is it market-leading superb? Not yet. But note the “yet” in that answer. Your phone is not a laptop, no matter how lovely it is.

No, I’m neither a developer, employee, or owner. But I can see improved functionality. So could the other reviewers if they looked.

Meanwhile, you’re doing well. Keep it up.
Durango1718,
Why the hate?
I enjoy this app.
Grant it I only post using it. I don’t read others blogs/journals. That’s not why I’m on live journal. I just post my thoughts and use it as a fairly private journal. (Even though we all know nothing we do online is totally private).
I enjoy the app. It makes posting on the go easy.
I always prefer a computer and a desktop version rather than using apps. But it serves its purpose.
yaotomesoba,
Still horrible even with the new update
I love how LiveJournal works as a website, even on mobile it’s fine; but the app is the absolute worst. With the new update you can view your posts and drafts as if you were on your computer, which is great, but the second you try to edit something it’ll turn every line and picture in your post into a separate journal page! Please fix this, it doesn’t make any sense at all to add drafts as a feature to the app if you can’t edit them in a way that makes the entire post visible.

I can’t even begin to express how much I hate the new app. I’ve been an LJ user since 2005, and I’m one of the few who actually still writes posts. This app has now destroyed the site for me. I can’t even opt out by using Safari; it switches me over to the app. I had a whole post written out, and the entire thing got deleted because the app suddenly opened multiple pages up. All were blank. Everything I’d written was gone. Journaling really helped my mental health.. guess that’s that, then. This update is atrocious and they should be embarrassed to have launched it.
strumglory,
awkward experience vs laptop
App is functional as far as reading friends posts, but only for the last two weeks’ worth of entries. I can also update my own journal, but the scrolling is awkward for longer entries and formatting doesn’t translate well — for example, double spaces between paragraphs show up as single spaces when published. It seems I should be able to start a post on mobile and finish on the laptop, or vice versa, and the experience should be seemless, but it’s not.
TimberlandBill1,
The app keeps getting worse...
I don’t even understand it anymore, all I want to do is post like I used to, I can’t put in a subject without it being a picture now? Login information has to be redone every time an update comes and hope that it works after. Livejournals website is still good but the app is horrible. I’m just going to post through the site going forward because it’s infuriating to try and navigate this piece of crap app...
