BENGUTTERIDGE,
Nicely designed but…
Nicely designed but there are no names for each section after you first open it and the lessons are too slow and complicated for a small child absolute beginner. They want to get straight in and play not learn all the names of the parts of the guitar etc. It worked nicely with me sat there playing along to the songs and showing him how to do it (I.e. teaching him myself) - but just letting him intuitively get along with the app on his own and learn wouldn’t work. - he is only 4 though - so maybe if he was 8 he would have the discipline to sit and watch each lesson before playing anything. Basically I feel there should be a very simple game for absolute beginners to feel like they have got somewhere and inspire them - so it feels like a fun game - rather than trying to teach them every technical detail from the outset.
Shaun in Atlanta,
So disappointing…
Got a Loog guitar for daughter for her sixth birthday. I really wish I had investigated the app before buying the guitar. The guitar is nice and a great tool for someone with tiny hands to get started on a challenging instrument. I wish the folks at Loog had spent a tenth the amount of time they spent making the app cute thinking about how to teach guitar. There’s absolutely no structure or path to follow. How is anyone supposed to know what to do first or what order to tackle things? The songs and games are far too complex to get started on. But the lessons have no useful order. Like, lesson one is basics of the guitar parts, then there are literally three separate lessons on how to restring a guitar as if you’re going to be thinking about restringing a guitar right after you bought it or my 6 year old daughter would even do this herself. Then, it’s literally every chord in alphabetical order. Really? Why not teach a few chords from the same key then a song using those chords. Like, seriously. Teach C-Am-G, then go learn every Taylor Swift song. If I wasn’t already a guitar player, my daughter and I would both be completely lost.

But the monsters are cute, so there’s that.

Bad
We bought this guitar for our 6 year old and thought it would be a great way to learn guitar. Not so much and this app certainly doesn’t help. We obviously don’t know how to play guitar, we want to learn. The pictures of the chords are confusing. Do we play just one string with the pick or all three together to make the chord? They never say. Then on Twinkle Twinkle they want you to put your finger way up by the tuning picks. What? So then you select the game to learn a song. Play one note, if you pass, they teach you two notes like the game Simon. However when you get to the third note when you have to move your fingers it only gives you like 2 seconds or you fail and have to start over. Who learns that quickly? Isn’t the point to learn? It’s like a really bad video game and the app also keeps shutting down. Not impressed at all. The guitar is cute but if you can’t learn thru the app, it’s nothing more than a cute guitar and I could’ve bought one at Walmart for $20. I don’t recommend this product or the app to anyone. Thumbs down.
Edith Foley,
Great app!
I think this a great app! I got a Loog guitar and decided to get this app to help me. Turned out it works! It gives me great lessons a tuner and a lot more! I think if anyone else has a Loog guitar this app WILL help you. The only problem I have with the app is that when I’m playing a game on the game area it sometimes won’t hear me it gets really annoying. But overall it’s a great app and it can really help and you should definitely get it!

I can’t imagine worse
I don’t know how you even an app for learning guitar this bad, especially for children. The UI is unintuitive. You push buttons to see chords to learn chords. You need to know (actually memorize) the chords to unlock a song. Why not learn chords by playing songs? That would be too easy and fun. The songs are elevator music versions of the songs that don’t even match the original and has no real instruments, just odd toy like synth sounds that dont at all match up with an acoustic guitar. The interface for the songs fails often. And you cant see what an A chord looks like when you’re learning a song, you have to exit the song section and go to the learn chords section. Makes no sense. Really badly designed from a product standpoint and a horrible way to learn guitar. Really bad.
momnotebook,
Great music product!
I got this for my four year old for Christmas. She doesn’t seem to care about it but I’m having fun learning chords and the app does a great job of helping tune, teach chords, and is very colorful and cute as well. My daughter likes piano and violin so maybe I went a little overboard with a guitar… maybe my other child will want to learn until then I will

Terrible app
This is one of the worst learning apps I’ve ever used. I’ve given it a go a number of times, but everything is so poorly thought out. They spent so much time working on making it look cute, and very little time thinking about how the learning actually functions within the app. You basically have to already have all the chords and notes memorized to use any of the functions that teach you chords and notes. I’m not just a clueless learning who isn’t willing to put in the time. I have a fairly solid ability with ukulele learned through an app. This one just makes no sense and puts cuteness before usability.

Tuner does not work
It is impossible to tune the guitar. It says that the same string is too low and too high at the same time. Since the app cannot get to accept our guitar’s sound, we cannot get any chord accepted and that means we cannot play one single song. The guitar is nice but the app simply doesn’t work as intended. I agree with other reviewers that it needs to allow for a little bit of forgiveness. I have spent more than an hour trying to tune the guitar but as I do, the system is very inconsistent. The same string that it has told me to tighten and tighten and tighten, it then asks me to loosen up ten times over. It makes no sense.
WEEZ2000,
Marginal guitar and terrible app
I play guitar so I didn’t except much from this low end guitar for my young kids but that’s what it is. A cheap guitar that never stays in tune. But the app is even worse. Terrible to navigate. Nothing has titles so you have to jump around to figure what stuff is and if you don’t do it every day you forget where everything is. It does a poor job of recognizing notes and doesn’t let you refresh screen. You have to go back out of the lesson and back In and start over. Just gets my 7yo and me frustrated
Carlz1719,
Worthless
My 8 year was super excited to play with this. After watching the video on how to tune and 10 excoriating minutes I took over trying to help. The app seemed to be only intermittently registering a note and i got different feedback based on which setting I was in (auto and manual). Auto consistent misidentified the string being tuned and gave different instructions than manual. Santa got him this and left a note telling him to practice. I’m not sure what’s worse, suffering through this misery or coming up with a cover story for how we returned it.
