Description
Welcome to the LWL-Römermuseum in Haltern am See!
Experience the Romans live - in the heart of Westphalia!
Haltern am See 2,000 years ago: One of the most important Roman bases is located on the banks of the river Lippe. From here the famous Roman general Varus tried to conquer the area to the right of the Rhine. Here is stationed one of the legions that is supposed to perish in the Battle of Varus in 9 AD, the Legio XIX. The name of the camp: Aliso.
Today the LWL-Römermuseum is located at this exact spot. More than 1,200 original finds from the entire region bear witness to the highly developed culture of the Romans and their everyday life far from home. This time – the peak of Roman power in Germania – comes alive again here.
In the modern museum with building reconstructions on the Römerbaustelle Aliso, you can experience the world of the Romans live - and even digitally!
The app is the audio/multimedia guide to the permanent exhibition and to the outdoor area, the Römerbaustelle Aliso. Here you will receive audio tours in German and English, extended information in the form of texts, videos and images, as well as guided tours in German Sign Language (DGS).
We look forward to your visit!
