v1.4.1
Fixed bug with updating firmware in some DL1608 mixers

v1.4
New! Released My Fader for iPhone and iPod touch. Download now from the App Store.

New! Added support for DL806.
Master Fader now works with both the DL1608 and the DL1608 including Offline operation. Shows, Snapshots, Presets and Access Limiting work seamlessly across DL mixers automatically.

New! Show Improvements.
Many Show, Snapshot and Synchronizations enhancements have been added. The Show Screen now displays Offline shows and the Current Show separately. The Current Show is saved to the iPad automatically as changes are made and the last modified date and time are shown. Channel Images and Icons are now stored in shows, recalled with snapshots and synchronized between devices. Up to 64 channel images may be used in a single show. All images used in the current show are displayed in the Channel>Images>Show Images list. And Shows are now recalled in the background (with indication in the Navbar) so that operation may continue as they load. All connected devices now remain online when shows are loaded.

New! Vintage EQ, Gate and Compressor.
After extensive analysis, development and testing, the new vintage EQ, compressor and gate deliver the sought-after musical characteristics of your favorite industry-standard processors. For each channel processor, the user can select between the new Vintage type for creative tone shaping and the current Modern type for surgical control. The vintage compressor and gate provide a lightning-fast attack, non-linear attack/release and program dependent release making them great for drums and other transient sources. The vintage EQ captures the unique interactions between the shelving bands and the gain and frequency-dependent Q structure of the parametric band to deliver the clarity and sheen of classic EQ designs. This EQ is great for getting guitar, bass, piano and other instruments to sit perfectly in a mix. Presets now store and recall the DSP type and new Vintage factory presets have been added.

Other Changes.
• Improved Meter response.
• Improved taper on Gate Hold parameter to make it easier to adjust for shorter hold times.
• Added Tools>About>More button with additional software and firmware version information.
• Updated Quickstart Guide
• Updated Reference Guide

Bug Fixes.
• Fixed bugs where the mixer button may disappear on the Channel View. This was most often seen on the iPad (1st generation).
• Fixed bug where popover lists did not show selection highlight.
• Fixed bug where device discovery could fail when repeatedly selecting the Tools>Devices button.
• Fixed bug where gate meter showed inaccurate value.
• Fixed bug where changing FX type did not show update on multiple connected iPad devices.
• Fixed bug where quickly swiping between channels in Channel View could show a black screen.
• Performed other minor fixes and stability improvements.

Jerry "D",
DL1608 Review
From experience using this software, on an iPad 4th generation and around several smart phone users, etc, I strongly suggest the use of a 5Ghz wireless router / network. Recently, I was experiencing a series of disconnect anomalies, from the iPad and this software to the DL1608 and 2.4Ghz router / network. It took a little time to figure out what the issue was. But, at our last band rehearsal it hit me! I had set up the mixer and iPad with no one there, yet. Everything was working fine, until my two kids walked in with their smart phones. BINGO! The iPad and / or 2.4 Ghz router / network is seriously affected by the phones! Lucky for me that I had purchased a dual band wireless router. So, I switched to the 5Ghz network that the router offers and FINALLY! NO MORE DROP OUT or disconnects! A valuable find, for serious working Bands or Musicians looking to use this software, as an excellent solution to mixing live audio in local venues or clubs!

Love this new app, works great and offers a lot of features not found in the original app.

Mackie has done a nice job with this and has continues to provide upgrades and support for this app on a regular basis.

Youth Sound Board
This app works great with our youth music. I love the ability to take an additional iPad outside the sound booth to mix live on the floor.
Don A7,
A bit of a learning curve, regular updates
I nearly panicked in December 2014 when our church decided to go digital when replacing our gradually failing mixer. Our PA team has a few nearing retirement adults like me, a young adult, a few college students, and about a half dozen high school students.

Our old system had a stack of wireless mic receivers stacked next to the old mixer. We did not have enough budget for commercial cables to put everything into a rack, so I learned how to solder XLR. After each increment in installation, I tested the system was still fully functional. It took several weeks to get everything into the rack, including the new antenna splitters and all the wireless mic receivers. The transition went well although I lost a bit of sleep learning the language of mixers then adjusting the settings. The biggest challenge was dropping preconceived ideas, and just trusting the manual and go with the easy interpretation.

They came through with the promised app updates. Our control of the sound is incredibly better. One of our college students got married and moved away. We trained in a new high school student. We did not let a former member, who said it would be fun to mess with the settings, know the network password. We still like each other, but no.

Several of the younger team members prefer to use the traditional view when adjusting the sound. I like the more modern view. Recording to a portable hard-drive is a breeze. I could not figure that out in the directions; just hit the record button, and it works.
the mojoe,
Has Bugs
Great new features. In fact, I was so impressed after downloading the 3.0 software that I even ordered a DL32R to replace my 1608. Before the 32R arrived, played a LOT with the 3.0 software to get ready for it. I took our band's most current 1608 show and tired to save presets, but channels 1-3 could not be saved and I was ejected from the app. The 32R arrived today and I was able to bring it up with my prepared show. So far so good. Now I was extremely excited about being able to have a disk drive hooked up for recording. So I went to bestbuy and bought a brand new 2Tbyte drive. Hooked it up so I could format it as Mackie suggests, but every time I plug in the hard drive to the USB port, the 3.0 software fails and dies. Obviously Mackie did not perform proper QA before they released the 3.0 app. And I will agree with others that it is slow. Make an adjustment on the ipad for anything and there is a lag before the hardware makes the change. Come on Mackie. You were in too much of a hurry and did not do your proper testing. Customers - be patient and wait for these guys to fix Master Fader 3.0
H101o,
Great program but now has a few bugs
Before the most recent update, all was well. Solid program that never failed and worked great. In fact I have now installed this mixer in two different venues because it is absolutely fantastic.

Today, the mixer stopped working in the middle of rehearsal with a prompt that I must update the firmware. After 10 minutes I was up and running again, but every one of my settings and scenes were completely gone. Not good at all when I have a show in 20 minutes! I did get everything patched back in and everything worked fine for the show with no more program crashes.

Awesome mixer and program, but if that happens again I may need a new mixing platform because I can't take the chance of everything going down in the middle of the show.
TomRuggieri,
Takes some getting used to
I also own a DL1608. I noticed a bit of a lag which I do hope gets fixed.

At first, I was mad because so much had changed and there was no real warning that it was going to change. If I had been on a gig, it would have been a disaster. I am learning and liking the improvements in accessing various controls. It seems a bit easier to find things and select them, especially while trying to play drums at the same time.

The technology is amazing in that things like subgroups can be added to existing hardware. I keep looking for an updated user's manual so can tell which new features are indeed available for the hardware I own and which are only for the 32-channel unit.
Robbed by the new monopoly,
Brilliant and easy to use
I have not seen an easier to use digital mixer. Granted, this is much more simple than some others, but it's really all you'll usually need in a 16 channel mixer.

The look and feel are as good as it gets on an iPad. There are other iPad mixers that don't feel right, this one does. I had my hands on it at NAMM in January, and it didn't feel good, now it's perfect!

I couldn't figure out how to reset the graphic EQ. I hope the final version has a way to reset.

One feature wish - to be able to use iPhone ear buds on the iPad to monitor and talkback to aux busses wirelessly. I don't know if that's even possible, but it sure would be awesome.

Best of all, no running a snake down the middle of the room. Standing on the stage with the musicians as you set their monitors will be a joy, and if they're a real pain in your but, they can make their own mix with their own iPad. Then they will know it's not as easy as they think it should be.

I don't have an immediate need for this mixer, but if the street price is significantly lower, I'll buy one just for fun.
Kevin_Jackson,
Great Mixer, Great App.
I have used this now on a few gigs and am blown away by this app and mixer. The interface is intuitive, the sound is true to what you hear and the design is perfect for those wanting to scale down their set up. You would need to invest many thousands in your set up for what this does for around $1,000 with the DL 1608. You have gates, compressors and EQ's on every channel plus a master buss compressor to tighten the mix or protect your speakers - and a 31 band EQ for those wanting to tune the room. You can snapshot and store your settings so if you work with a band or artist regularly you can pull up their preset. This product is fantastic.
Fiddlemandan,
Cool new features but has bugs.
I have been using the 1608 for two years and and have loved it. All the while hoping to see the new features that finally came. I have only played around with the new app on one of my iPads and haven't actually updated the firmware yet. Frankly I'm a little afraid to after reading all the reviews. I noticed right off the bat the lag between touching a button and the page actually changing. Sometimes as much as 3 seconds.

I use an ipad 2 version 7.1.1

I found a bug right away that causes a crash every time. Starting in offline mode for the dl32r then switch to the the dl1608 without closing the app open the page where view groups are assigned and buttons for groups E and F are still there touch one and of course it crashes. Also if you open the 1608 first then switch to the 32r. on the view group assign page only groups A,B,C, and D appear. Until I completely close the app and re open it.

I'm tempted to just run my show one ipad short and continue using the old version until I know some of the bugs have been fixed.

The dl32r is exactly what I have been waiting for but I will not be buying one until I can trust it.
