Alex. M.,
Inconsistent
The app is inconsistent. Once it was awesome. Since then it has never worked correctly. It gets confused about which issue I should have included in my subscription and which ones I should pay an astronomical $6 for. Every time I log in it changes, but now it's holding steady on not letting me read the latest issue which was the only one it let me read the first time I logged in.

The log in is your subscription number which is some arbitrary number they assign you and there's in way you'll ever remember it for when you have to sign out and sign back in to try to get it to recognize your subscription correctly.

But once it does work, even if you're reading some other issue besides the done you wanted, it works pretty well after that and links to external pages and has good internal links to articles.
BaltimoreDave,
Reviews of this app go back only 2 years
I want to subscribe to digital but you only have reviews of your app going back 2 years. Those reviews are universally terrible.

But you most recent update is 7 months ago.

How is that possible? How is anyone to know your subscription is worth $35?

And if have been burned before by generic apps made by cheap designers who sell it to publishers who don’t know they got what they paid for; a buggy app locked into a feature set you can’t change and poor technical support.

The publisher gets screwed but ultimately the subscribers do with a poor quality app.

Which brings me back why you haven’t allowed reviews in 2 years.

I guess I will have to go elsewhere to find subscribers who can tell me if your app is worth your subscription.

1 star for zero transparency
Nicnameisretardedrequirement,
Update makes it even worse than before
On iPad Air 2 iOS 13.3, after this new update the app runs sluggish as hell! Also I can no longer read any of my past purchases. There’s no option to restore past purchases, and the UI is confusing and not intuitive even if it was running smoothly, basically make deleted all my purchases and now wants me to pay for them again if I want to view them
soundrel,
why didn’t I heed the others bad reviews?
Terrible app. Unable to log in. They got my money. No access. No password, no log in, NO ACCESS

Terrible experience. I plan to charge back if they don’t supply me with a log in password within 12 hours from now.
ToolGuy,
Vastly improved app. Works great so far.
I was literally in the process of writing a 1 Star review and getting ready to cancel my subscription, but when I opened the App Store I noticed that (finally) there was an update to the Make reader application just 15 hours old. I’m not kidding. The old app was terrible. I had just opened the old app and it took over 2 MINUTES to “Verify my subscription” — during which time I couldn’t even read issues I had already downloaded. Talk about a terrible end-user experience. After two years without an update, I had given up hope that the situation would ever be fixed.

But I’m extremely happy to be proven wrong. The new app is like night and day. Reading and navigation on the old app was alway pretty decent (after the interminable opening wait time) and the new app retains some similar functionality but is even better. You can still read in the traditional “magazine” layout style or you can now read with a more free form “web style” interface. Most importantly, it is FAST. No long opening delay, and you don’t even have to download your issue before you can start reading. You still can download purchased issues if desired (which I’m guessing is for access even when not connected to the internet) but there seems to be no requirement to do so.

Anyhow, I’m (finally) a happy camper. I’ve always enjoyed the “Make” content and I really wanted to support the whole ethos and ecosystem, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore such bad design and apparent indifference to the customer. Now, I no longer have to.
kyboyaway,
App is TERRIBLE
The app takes forever to load when it does load.
90 % of the time it does not recognize my subscription.
It is practically unusable. I gave it one star because negative stars are not available.
Camera_Guy,
New update prevents ITunes users from using
I have called Make and they say call apple. I call apple and they confirm problem is on Make App side. Make customer service is horrible. Make magazine has good content but not worth my time.
BrianArsenault,
Can’t even login
App is now completely useless. Logging in on the computer for digital is fine, but not via the app.
Quiviran,
Still Terrible - Updated, no change
Make: needs to get their money back from the developer of this app. Still doesn't work, can't access the subscription I've paid for. Will not resubscribe. This should embarrass anyone old enough to drive themselves to work at Make:.

Nov 2017 - Tried again. Attempted to take advantage of the Black Friday pricing. Filled out forms, should have run away at the first sign of shakiness. After filling out the credit card info, pressed the “Subscribe Now” button and was redirected to a page with the following message: “We’re having technical difficulties. An e-mail has been sent to the webmaster. Please try again later”. How many times do they expect you to send credit card info to a website with technical difficulties? I’m one over my desired limit right now.
Tmortn,
Mixed bag
The content is awesome and the layouts often make use of being digital instead of just a "PDF in an app" like a lot of these I have tried.

However... the app itself seems buggy. I downloaded an initial mag to check things out and everything worked great. So I went in for a years subscription... two weeks later and I still cannot download the current edition. Have two or three stories that just say "downloading" and on the content screen it looks like I have only 28Mb of 244 downloaded. I have left it open, I have uninstalled and re-installed, deleted and started over all to no avail.

Id rate the Make content at 4-5 stars, the app at 1-2 stars if I could separate this hence the middle road rating. Really hope they fix this.
