Welcome to 2.0

We have made improvements to bring you a better, faster app!

This version includes a brand new feature: offline mode.

Offline mode allows you to download a list of species for a given region before leaving for a trip. This enables the app to be used as a field guide while exploring remote parts of the world! Currently available in English for Denali National Park, Alaska. More regions will be available for download soon!

Our offline feature also allows observations to be recorded while away from mobile or Wi-Fi networks. These observations will be updated to your Map of Life account once you have internet connection.

We hope you enjoy the new features! Feel free to provide feedback within the app (Settings > Feedback) or by emailing [email protected].

Sydmalis,
Great for leaning locals
Could use a better search by features and a folder for spiders and beetles, but great for all around general identification. It's a great small app.

Please get the spiders up in an update sometime though. I would pay a few bucks for a good local spider identifier app
Blue Phoenix radio,
The coolest app you never knew you needed
Where do I begin on Map of Life... it is amazing!🌱 But then I am curious about the natural world around me. There are so many ways to learn more with this amazing application. I personally love that you can keep records of animals and plants around you! I have so much to learn to help understand Earth and my relationship with it, and it just got a whole lot easier! 🌸Thank you for such an amazing resource and tool. I am absolutely blown away by its intuitiveness, ease of use and the layout... thank you! 🌱
Whatapain65,
Denali species list was terrible
None of the big mammals were listed as options to drop on the map. Disappointing.
Maglette,
Not yet a reliable source
The photo submissions are not well vetted (see Black Oak) and the app cites Wikipedia.
Naturalist23,
Great idea, neat implementation
Really wonderful how this app gives you a very well-done field-guide tailored to any location worldwide. I don't know of any other app that does that - something specific to that project it seems. You can also record your sightings straight in the app to share them with others and make them public. I think that full integration beats other efforts out there currently, and it has become my go-to naturalist app. Hope they add more groups and make it easier to use the app when away from a network. But already ... thanks!!!
CordedTires,
So far, great, with one bug
I've been looking for something like this. As far as I know, the comprehensive nature (across animal types etc. ), excellent implementation, and location dependence together are unique. The app is very well thought out and implemented so far. I do think its long term success will depend on how well it can share across other similar efforts.

Bug: Search for Species on iPhone6 iOS 8.3 does not work. Search button on keyboard does not do the enter function, it looks like.
Printerman00,
Well designed, very easy to use!
This app is very helpful in identifying wildlife and trees without slogging through field guides that cover large geographical areas. My only suggestion is social media integration so that people can share wildlife that they've spotted and bring new users to the app.
jpianoman,
Very good Nature app!
I really enjoy this app. It makes it easy to find animals in my area, and learn more about them. I like the UI and it helps having many pictures attached to the animal "profile"
imgram,
Some good some bad
The extra long list of what is around us seems to take in several states. Perhaps countries. Colorado likely has no red deer. Elk yes. Red deer seem to be European. Not likely to see armadillo here either. But I do like that it keeps a list of what I do see. Thus I will keep it.
ZoeaMar,
Fantastic app to see nature
An easy to use app to identify the nature around you wherever you are. Unlike other natural history apps it spans across multiple groups (birds, mammals, trees) and has a great interface.
