Don’t fear the subtitles!
Like many others, I developed an appreciation for Nordic noir early on in the COVID-19 lockdown. It didn’t take me long to binge all of the Scandinavian content on Netflix when I wasn’t baking banana bread, so I was soon longing for new stories to hunker down with. Thank goodness I stumbled upon MHz Choice during my search. It includes content from all over the globe, including a very healthy selection of my beloved Scandinavian crime series, all with English subtitles. After watching for a few minutes, reading the subtitles becomes second nature and you even begin pick up on certain phrases and mannerisms in each language. It does not detract from the viewing experience; if anything, it adds to it! I am quite happy none of the content is dubbed in English, as I find that to be very distracting. I can’t recommend this service enough. Please do yourself a favor and give it a try.

MHz gave me a first look of European TV and Cinema
What began as survival during the Pandemic they have with great programming brought me to the best of cinema and tv. It was my first choice of Chanel’s and still the my go to place. It’s sad funny mysterious and dramatic. It allows you to see a wide verity by country, best of N.Y. Times, Agatha Cristy and first place to go for Scandinavian productions. You’ll also find your self looking for the books some are based on and follow actors as they move across different projects and character types. You’ll never want to go back to US style shows. Only want to watch more of what comes across the Atlantic to your smart tv’s and streaming platforms. MHz provides you an opening into the best of

If you love mysteries…
I’m an avid follower of film noir (TCM channel is excellent) and English mysteries. But in the last few years I have grown to appreciate Nordic noir and other excellent European television. MHz is the premier source for this here in the USA and I so appreciate this channel. If you enjoy your mysteries dark and brooding, push past your intolerance of subtitles and try this channel. You won’t be sorry. Based solely on content, I’ve given the app five stars but truthfully the app itself is a little awkward when it comes to setting up favorites and tracking your watch history. They’ve made some progress but it still needs some work in this regard. But I’m focused on the content, and it is exceptional.

Excellent Selection
MHZ has such a wide offering of outstanding programs, and we were so happy and grateful to have found it, but I just wish the platform was more ‘user friendly’ in the sense that one could access an episode with greater ease. For instance, when we return to watching an episode of a program we just watched the previous night, we have to hunt for it, or we find that a much earlier episode we already completed watching is listed as ‘continue watching’ and have to hunt for the one we were just watching. Other streaming services make it easier to return to an episode in a series that one has just watched. Another suggestion is to list the number of the episode with each separate episode title. Again, we have to go hunting for the right one.

The best channel I had in ages
For someone born and raised in the Netherlands, with the capability of speaking several languages fluently and the experience of having travelled through Europe extensively, this channel is filling my needs and my heart ! Love the series, the “old friends” I get to watch and the gorgeous scenery on display. I am not much of a tv-watcher, but starting on Tuesday evening, I binge-watch MHz series. Often finishing in 2 or 3 days. Thanks for making this Dutchie happy as a lark and never disappear
One little note: when I have to leave off for longer than a week or two, some series, like the murder in…. Are hard to pick up. No line appears by the ones I have seen already.

A fantastic series - just entirely too short now that I have become accustomed to Eric Catona’s fine acting in a riveting plot each time that demonstrates the superior skills of every single actor and member of the production team and entire crew. It is simply the best crime drama I have seen on any channel - cable TV or streaming. I thank MHz for showing The Traveller’s first season. I will be looking forward to the continuation of this first-rate series. I don’t know if I can adjust to a change in Thomas Bareski, if the actor should change, but I will hope to see Eric Catona again in the future. Many thanks to MHz - I am immensely pleased to have subscribed to MHz for the long haul.

Bad move
I have loved these programs and all the new and intriguing characters.. I’ve loved it however I am deeply disappointed so much so I’m writing a review which is rare for me.. disappointed almost beyond words that I am paying for your service for streaming and now I find out your doing the weekly release on some shows.. I am furious to pay for this and then be told next episode won’t show until the next week... this is not a good move this streaming is highly competitive... I like your shows a lot but believe me I’ll find something else to like a lot elsewhere... I resent paying for your programming then having to wait to see the darn series... streaming means streaming I’m finishing out season one of what I’m watching then canceling my monthly membership.. it’s not at all what I wanted but I get so upset by this I’m just gonna shut it down... you had a great service here but I am extremely unhappy and greatly disappointed in MHz ...

Good but needs major work on user experience
Great selection of interesting European shows, needs to be way more user-friendly. For instance, you can add individual episodes of shows to your “watchlist” of favorites but there’s not a way to add the show itself. It’s cumbersome to have to look for a show each time you log in! And it prevents one from keeping a long list of favorite shows so that you can regularly mix up what you watch.
Sub-titles should be able to be turned off.
Also, one logs in by going into your affiliated email account and clicking on a verification link each time. This means that others in my household who want to watch have to have access to my email account..Honestly, who wants that?!
Wish it were even 50% more like Netflix in terms of user experience.

Entertaining and helpful for language learning
I have been watching mysteries in order to improve my aural comprehension and vocabulary in both French and German. I appreciate the selection of programs availabe through MHz, as well as the newsletters they send with reviews and updates on programs.
My one suggestion for improvement pertains to the subtitles, which at present are exclusively in English and cannot be turned off. It would be great from my standpoint if subtitles were also available in the original language of each program, and if one had the option of turning the subtitles off. Overall, though, I am very happy with MHz choice.

Great Viewing of Great Foreign Language Cinema
I have been very much enjoyed watching many offerings on MHZ choice! Being of Italian heritage of course I loved Montalbano, Imma Tattaranni, Detective Deluca and many others but we are not so provincial as not to have also admired and enjoyed A French Village, Spiral and most recently Speakerine from France. And yet our most favorite entertainments may have been the previously unknown to us genre of “Nordic Noir.” Very many riveting films from the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland. Let’s not forget the wonderful German productions like the Inspector Brunetti filmizations of Donna Leon’s books. MhzChoice has been a most delightful bargain!
