Description

The MISIN smartphone app provides a mobile solution for the capture of invasive species field observation data. You can play an important role in the early detection and rapid response to new invasive threats in your area by contributing invasive species observations to the MISIN database. These data are then shared with an emerging network of database efforts for the tracking of invasive threats and are used by land managers to help make informed decisions regarding the management and impact of invasive species. Your data can be browsed through the MISIN website at: http://www.misin.msu.edu.

Features
•Identify and report 400+ invasive plant and animal species
•Capture and submit species observations from the field
•Include images taken in the field with your observation
•View real-time species distribution maps
•Browse images and species information on top Midwest invaders

The MISIN Invasive Species reporting smart phone application was developed by the Applied Spatial Ecology and Technical Services Laboratory at Michigan State University.

Now, once you select a specimen, you can report on it or view photos, fact sheet or map without the need to going back to the species list.

mimastergardener,
Can’t complete registration
I’ve tried several times to register (and used 2 different email addresses to do so), but an email link to complete registration never came to me. Checked junk mail and filters, not there either. Not sure if using this app without completing registration actually results in reporting invasives or if I’m wasting my time. Please fix app now or I will be deleting it!
LadyElephant,
Works fine for me
The register page wouldn’t load on the app so I just registered on their website and then logged in on the app and it worked fine for me. Location & maps are accurate too. Very easy to use and has a lot of information about the invasive as well as being able to report if they are present or absent.
iCrapMyPlants,
Just not reliable
I really want this App to work and help provide information to the various groups that use the data, but frequently the App crashes, locks up, or refuses to login.
Sitthetrot,
Finally works again!
I’m not sure what changed, but the app finally lets me open the report feature without going to a blank screen and freezing. Nice!
shaffne2,
Not working!
I was able to log in but It is only taking me to a blank page titled habit. I can’t find a directory of plants, anywhere to write anything or a place to attach pictures. The website was crashing every time I tried to submit my report, so I downloaded this app thinking it should be easier. Not the case… this app seems worthless.
Samoseti,
Allows you to see where others have reported sightings
I wanted to find places with invasives to fish and I’ve found them thanks to this app.

Gonna go scout out a couple local-ish lakes now 👍
misterdarci,
Frustrated
After several tries to create an account, I was finally able to make it work. There is no way to reset a lost password that I have found. I tried to report lesser celandine in Ted black woods and it took me to a screen that said “habit” :( I was excited to use this app but now it seems to be unusable
Zekespinkmama,
Impossible to use
I know the two invasives I want to report. Instead of searching, I’m forced to scroll through all the alphabet until I get to the letter J. When I click on Japanese Knotweed, I’m asked to log in (again). Then, I’m forced to start all the way back at “A”. This gets a big thumbs down from me. I’m not happy with my Alma Mater. 👎
lkreykes,
Does not work
This would be great in keeping up with reporting invasives. Unfortunately I can’t even load the main screen of this app anymore. Also it’s still formatted for old iPhones, and not the modern 16:9 displays of the X and above. Just needs to be overhauled, really.
Hardwareje250,
App broken
This app will not work on my 5s with iOS 11.0.3.

It won't load any animals or plants to pick from, and freezes not allowing me to do anything other than a force close of the app.
