ABOUT MO’RHYTHM DJEMBE/DUNUN PLAY ALONG

Mo’Rhythm Beginning African Drumming Play Along App is the brain-child of world-renowned percussionist Monette Marino. Designed to provide you with a platform to practice individual drum parts on your real drums while listening to the other instruments of the djembe orchestra, all with the convenience of your smartphone or tablet.

Here’s how it works:

First, select the rhythm you want to practice. Then select the instruments you would like to play accompany you while you practice. Select the tempo and then press Play. You will hear the djembe signal at the start of each rhythm and then you can begin playing your drum along to the instruments you have selected.

This App contains audio only, however there are 50 videos available (10 rhythms times 5 drums each) as In-App purchases if you would like to see the movement and position of the hands on the drums.

“Play Along” increases your listening & playing skills and will help you to play in sync with other instruments of the djembe orchestra, enhancing your understanding of how all the parts fit together.

African rhythms for Beginning Content included are: Balakulandjan, Denedon, Djole, Fe, Kuku, Moribayassa, Soliwulen, Konden, Soli (Fast), and Toro.

Once you have downloaded the app, you may add intermediate and advanced levels of rhythms as in-app purchases.

The Intermediate level includes: Dallah, Djaa, Djansa, Kakilambe, Kassa, Mendiani, Sofa, Sorsonet, Sunun, and Tiriba.

The Advanced level of rhythms include: Abondan, Dunungbe, Konkoba 1, Konkoba 2, Konowulen 2, Lekule, N'Goron, Soboninkum, Zaouli A, and Zaouli B.

SoCal Patient,
Solo phrases and other great features!
If you're serious about practicing djembe and dununs, I *highly* recommend the Mo’Rhythm app. I've had it for a while and just downloaded the new Advanced Rhythms, only to discover that they have added solo phrases, woo-hoo!! Other great features for the 30 rhythms are notations, option to repeat the signal, independent volume control for each part, metronome, and history. I have studied West African drumming for 2 years, and this app is a great compliment to live classes.
Jimagua 1,
Disappointed
I like the app but what I don’t like is the fact that you don’t get all the rhythms all at once. You only get ten rhythms and then you have to pay additional fees for each set of ten. I don’t recall seeing this information before purchasing, otherwise I might have declined.
Piti Piti Pa costs a dollar less and automatically includes SIXTY-TWO rhythms! No additional purchases...
However, I do like that Mo Rhythm includes the written notation...
Only three stars; mixed feelings but mostly disappointed in the overcharging for additional rhythms without informing the consumer beforehand...sorry
bsctrail,
Outstanding
Love this App! Inexpensive and quality. Can’t wait to use the new ballet feature! Dial it up!

Unique and Amazing
This app designed by the brilliant Monette Marino is amazing. Feature rich and very useful for personal or group learning. Worth 3x the price. Highly recommended!
our worst nightmare,
Nice program
Very nice program that is easy to use.
Janet32,
Perfect!
Perfect for teaching, practicing, and learning to add solos.
Big chimichangas,
Mo'Rhythm changes the game!
I have known Monette Marino since the early 90s. I was always impressed by her talent, discipline and absolute joy with which she approached her music. Like many of us who were fascinated by African rhythms she spent many years learning obscure rhythms from cranky teachers who often times wouldn't take her seriously because she was a woman. She has paid her dues at least twice.
This app, Mo'Rhythm is a game-changer. It could only have been designed by someone with the depth of experience and knowledge that Monette possesses. This is just what percussionists always wanted, a way to hear the part you want to learn in context, and isolated from the others instruments, in real time. This makes it almost too easy. For all of you just coming up and anxious to learn as many rhythms as you can, once you install this app you will have no more excuses. I can't wait for the Afro-Cuban and Brazilian versions. Right? There will be more won't there?
pixellava,
Freaking Awesome!
I love this! It's ingeniously designed to make it possible (and super fun) to play along and practice to any part in several different rhythms. The metronome is terrific and I love how you can adjust the volume on either the bell or beat in the djune parts. I'm looking forward to going through the videos too - what an amazing resource! I haven't played a djembe in ages but this little app instantly put a huge smile on my face and my hands started remembering the rhythms. And the notations and background info are interesting too. Aside from all of that, I use this as music to work to - it makes a great high energy sound track to block out distractions. Thank you Monette, totally cool!
Ohheydaub,
Coolest app!
This is an amazing app. I have a hard time remembering African rhythms. Sheet music is no help to me. I need to hear it. But trying to record with my phone in a group setting is just too unclear and clumsy. This app takes care of all that by having all the drum parts played together or separately. You can adjust the tempo to play slow until you get it down and then speed it up. It's brilliant!
wgoggle,
Super App
The sounds are clear. Being able to adjust the volume of each drum, change tempo, mute bells and individual drums is very clever. With the inter-audio feature, I can also play along in djembe pro or play my African drums and "practice" while everyone else is asleep. Thanks for putting this together.
