Description

Morse Elmer is an app to help you learn Morse Code. Morse Elmer uses two well established methods to help you learn: The Koch Method and Farnsworth spacing. As you train Morse Elmer keeps track of your results, graphing them so you can monitor your progress. With Morse Elmer on your iOS device you'll have the tools to train whenever you want and the more frequently you train the quicker you'll become proficient.

I've addressed some bugs and added a couple very minor new features. The biggest bug necessitated a database migration. I wanted to get that out of the way before working on new features.

Feature:
New ability to export training results to .csv file available via iTunes
New ability to control the amount of data shown on the progress graph
Show all training parameters on progress edit page.

Bug Fixes!

jmas - insert character at beginning jumps to end
jten - progress edit always shows 1 char

Beadchaser,
Great Value!
I wasn’t expecting a whole lot for a 99c app- but wow. It’s got a lot going on. It’s a really solid app. Yes, you do need pen/paper to write what you hear, but if you’re in the field, you’re going to be doing that anyway. Train how you’re gonna g to actually be doh g it :) The ramp up is nice, ability to use Farnsworth spacing and Koch learning = win. I was also pleased to find that I could build my own character lists and use Dropbox to transfer them. Thanks again for building a solid app.
JohnnyBraveau,
Twitchy settings, but otherwise good
It may be the hardware I'm using (iPhone, iPad), but changing the Farnsworth spacing can be a challenge, very sensitive and twitchy. Other similar issues, though not as bad as this one, throughout.

It was fun to take along on a long road trip.
Put it on bluetooth audio through the car stereo, programmed in 10 minutes at a time, and recited back the characters using phonetics. After a while it became automatic, no thought involved. What a rush!
Rlcomstock3,
Good App
I have used applications on my computer, but it is nice to have a full featured app also on my phone. Good to brush up on speed. I like that it is focused around copying on paper. I know some people take issue with it, but when I copy Morse I want to do it on paper not onto my phone. It makes sense for me to train the way I intend to use it.
KK4HP,
No longer supported?
I can’t seem to get in contact with the developer. Both the in-app link and the app link to support is dead. The app itself is great, easy to navigate, very intuitive, the practice sets are well thought out and organized to get you up to speed quickly. But there is a volume level issue whether using the headphone jack or linking by BT. It is extremely low, perhaps a result of several iOS updates since it was authored. The developer needs to update the app to be compatible with the current version of iOS.
L'Apicoltore,
Great app
Great app for learning. Easy interface, all the customization options you need to tailor the way you learn, great documentation.

Two bugs: it drops the last character in the sequence when reporting results, and it doesn't override the sleep function on the phone so it keeps timing out unless I poke the screen while I'm practicing. Otherwise flawless app.
rixridge,
Totally works with my iPhone.
Hasn’t missed a beat yet. I have used it quite a bit in the past 3 weeks and it hasn’t even hiccuped or glitched or nothing. Works like it should on 14.7.1. I don’t do windows so the schools G4FON Trainer is not for me. This does anything that I know of that it does - and this is iPhone. I love it.
Mnmaddog,
Good program
I can add characters and switch speeds. Not complicated to adjust. Practicing is very essential and I can do it in short bursts and do it anywhere. I wish they had a reference that had the key to the letters and characters. I may have missed it, but had to look up in my operating book..not a big deal.
RyanS7,
Pen and Paper Required?
I was hoping this app would let you type in what you copy and then automatically score the results. Sadly, you will need to cary a pad of paper and pen with you anytime you want to practice. Then, you will need to manually score your results. Please consider adding a keyboard entry mode during training!

Otherwise, the app does what it says on the tin and appears to work great.
toddbu,
Good app
I like the app, but why only 10 minutes max per session? There are times when I want it to go for 30 minutes or more, like in the background when I’m doing other tasks and I’m not paying close attention the entire time. Ten minutes seems arbitrarily short
Jordan928477,
Works pretty well
Text in the settings dialogue doesn’t show up in my iPad Air.

Text files must be loaded from Dropbox. Why didn’t the developer use the standard iOS file open dialog instead so that I can select any text file accessible from the file system?
