As the game-loading screen suggests, this game appears to be a project by a group of high school Comp Sci students. Don’t expect big-studio quality. The programmers were likely working under pressure with a small budget and tight time constraints.
That being said, I was pleasantly surprised. The puzzles weren’t what I’m used to in escape games, which made them more difficult than I’m accustomed to. It’s ad-free, with hints, which is great. The caveat: it’s a timed game, and each hint you use knocks about two minutes off the clock.
I lost my first run-through of the game. Made it through the second with time to spare. That’s generally a sign of a good game (IMO).
There are flaws. The pacing seems off. Check inventory frequently, because it’s not consistently apparent that a new item has been added. Steps need to be accomplished in a certain order, which seems arbitrary.
Flaws aside, and bearing in mind that this is likely their first attempt at game development, a 4 is in order. Typically I’d say 3, but it feels like this is the start of a learning curve, and these young people show promise. Would play any follow-up. Nice job!
