Reviews

Pcoddin,
Not impressed
Bought this app the other day and tried it out. It has some potential, but the shutter lag is so long, it's virtually useless if there is any sort of motion in your photo. Animals, people, forget about it. Unless you like blurry pictures. I think it will work well for still life, or cityscapes without any sort on movement, but why not use a camera app that can photograph people, and then convert in one of the many B&W apps that are available?
Alan.AZ,
Wonderful B&W Shooting App
I hesitated for quite awhile before buying this app due to several somewhat negative early reviews. I couldn't find any review covering the latest version so I just decided to buy it figuring the developer probably made improvements since it wasn't a 1.0 version any longer.

I was more than pleasantly surpised! The interface has been totally redone since the reviews I read and IMO is quite workable. Everything is there when you need it, but doesn't get in the way. And, image quality? In a word...superb!! Easily up there with the best replacement camera apps available.

Highly recommended! If you've been on the fence about buying this app, just get it!!
AGFrankie,
Perfect!
Never use such a great and simple photography app before. It reveals the essence of photography and let you merely focus of the shades and lights, instead of the countless "seems-great filters". Black-and-white photos are always classic because they show the details, the lights, the harmony of the geometric shapes that compose the picture. Without the distraction of colors, black-and-white pictures show the greatest revelation of the skills of the photographer. Strongly recommended! Just like the Leica Mono, which only enables the user to take black-and-white photos, this app allows you to achieve the highest apex of photography. It allows you to become a mater of photography to some extent.
elvisinchina,
Slick interface, great photos
I really recommend this app for B&W photography. If you're more interested in taking nice photos than in mucking them up with every type of bizarre post-processing filter, this app is for you.

The interface is really well done, providing instant access to all the functions without much fiddling. The way the menu can collapse to a single selected column is good design. The exposure and focus lock work well, and I also like the ability to select 4:3, 3:2, or 1:1 format.

The live view does a great job of showing the effects of color filters and tone adjustments. There's also a nice, concise help page that I found useful. I don't know that much about TIFF vs. JPEG; I have been saving them as TIFFs and they look great.

If I could have anything I wished for in an app, I would want this one to handle low light better (the way 645PRO and NightCap do with slower shutter speeds) and maybe have a timer. But these are asking for extras on something that is already a 5-star app.
ACS2000,
Superb
The best B/W app I've ever used. Feels very much like a proper high-end film camera, with the virtual equivalents to the filters, grids, formats, and functionalities one would find in a real world analog camera. The output is unbelievably fine for a digital cell-tack sharp with good dynamic range and full control over contrast. No gimmicks here (no over processed effects, etc.), just straightforward, honest B/W photography with intuitive control and high quality output in mind. Superb.
姜卫新,
Saves TWO memories: mine & my smartphone's
Not just for shutterbugs. Without filling up their smartphone's disc, road warriors who've had trouble remembering things since Apollo 11 can use MPro to photograph documents, biz cards, receipts, as well as where they parked, who was at the meeting, that important address/number/email/joke which can crop up anywhere. Snap now, edit later.
TravelersCheck,
Great dynamic range, but...
...some photos import flopped in Picasa.

The interface could use some polishing, but I like the ability to fine-tune the tonal curves and save as TIF.

This app needs another revision to get right: fine-tune the interface, provide other metering options (other than just spot metering), fix a couple of bugs rendering/export bugs, and provide in-app preview capability.
YoSoyTeto,
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS APP!
MPro isn't the simplest, easy-to-use, point and click app, but it isn't all that hard to learn, and it generates the best monochrome photography of all the many apps that I've bought and used.

If you want an easy monochrome photography app, use Lenka. If you want fantastic photos, learn MPro.
Russell W,
A Core App
I own a few dozen camera replacement apps, but I really only use three: 645 PRO MkII, vividHDR, and MPro.

What MPro offers is the ability to capture black & white in the style of Japanese street photography. I can't find another app that can do this, but that's okay because I enjoy using MPro, and I love the results.

One of the virtues of MPro is that it saves in TIFF. If LZW lossless compression was an option for TIFF, that would make this app even better.

All in all, this is truly a great app. Five stars!
swmlvh,
Excellent
This is the best B&W camera app I've used (tried many, used Vint prior). High quality images, beautifully designed, simple, flexible, fast and retains Exif info. Thanks so much and keep up the great work. Love this app!
