Description

Music Quiz is the quiz game built off of your library. Your music determines how you play and the visual style of the entire app!

Just like the original iPod classic, this game challenges your music knowledge as you try and get a new high score. Unlike the old game, this one is always changing. The visual design of the app changes based on what song you have playing!

Features:
• Different quiz types. Choose between: Song, Artist, Album, or Shuffle.
• Different modes: Play a normal round of 10, 20, or even 200, or play survival where one wrong pick ends it all.
• Choose what music you play: Don't want to listen to that album your ex gave you? Filter it out!
• Jump right into a game with 3D Touch actions!

There is now a Lite version of the game with limited features. If your unsure if this is for you, give that one a try before buying this one.

Most of my updates and new features come from requests by users like you. If there's a feature you want or something you don't like, leave some feedback and I'll take care of it.

Thanks for playing!

Version history

2.3.5
2022-01-28
Bug fixes:
• Improves handling of media player errors. You should hopefully never see the "media error" any more.
• Fixes an issue with volume being set too low or not being able to change between rounds.

System requirements:
• This update also requires iOS version to 13.0 up from 10.3.
2.3.4
2021-01-03
Fixes compatibility issues with iOS 14.

This update also changes the way that filters work.

Before, if you had an artist and a genre selected, the app would only play music from that artist, and that genre. This made it hard to select which songs you wanted to hear when playing.

The new way makes it so that if a value is enabled, like an artist and a genre, then songs from that artist will be played AND songs from the enabled genre will play.

This seemed to make more sense and make it easier to choose what songs you would be hearing.
2.3.3
2020-08-07
Fixed issues with "Play from beginning" skipping during load and the setting not saving between app launches.
2.3.2
2020-05-31
Fixed issues with music not playing
2.3.1
2019-10-15
This update should help the app perform better in low network conditions. If you've been playing while out on the go and noticed music not playing, this should help address the issue.
2.3.0
2019-09-20
This update gets Music Quiz ready for iOS 13 and fixes some issues.

New:
• Added support for iOS 13 dark mode.
• Added a way to view the total score when you finish a game.

Fixed:
• Fixed some occasions where the color contrast made it hard to see
• Fixed album art being stretched in the album view
• This update attempts to fix the issue of music stopping randomly. Let me know if you still encounter this.

Notes:
• With some color support, I needed to update the minimum iOS version to 11.0 (up from 10.3)
2.2.2
2019-07-16
This version fixes an issue when playlist filters were enabled.

When multiple playlists were selected, games would only show songs from a single playlist. This should now be fixed.
2.2.1
2019-06-09
New:
• Added the ability to use Composers as the game type
• Added the ability to change what categories shuffle will choose from

Fixed:
• Fixed an issue that could prevent the main menu buttons from working

Thanks for writing in about some of the features you wanted or concerns you have had. This update was a relatively small feature update, but had some big changes under the hood.

What does that mean for you? Not much, there’s a few squashed bugs you won’t have to deal with, and the app should perform a bit better now too.

Here’s what’s new:

• Added the ability to start songs from the beginning when playing.
• Added the ability to reset your stats from the Stats screen.

As always thanks for playing, and if you want to see something in the app, let me know through the feedback button in the app!
2.1.3
2018-12-06
This version contains additional tweaks to help prevent songs from starting at the beginning.
2.1.2
2018-09-25
2.1.2 adds some logic that should prevent games from being stuck with the "Loading..." label without playing music. If you've been having this issue, let me know if it still persists after this update.

Thanks for all the continued support!
2.1.1
2018-09-03
New in 2.1.1:
• Added an option to only play local music.

2.1.0 Release Notes:

New:
• iCloud Music. You no longer need to have music downloaded to your phone to be able to play!

Fixed:
• This update should hopefully fix the intermittent issues of music starting at the beginning of a song. I've reworked loading the music so I hope to no longer see the playback time not set properly.

As always, if this update causes you issues or anything else isn't quite working how you like, please leave me some feedback in the app and I'll do my best to get things working properly!

I'm sorry that's it's been a long wait for any updates to this game. I want to thank everyone of you who enjoy this game and send feedback my way. I've got some things planned for some future releases, but to start things off here's what's new in version 2.1.0:

New:
• iCloud Music. You no longer need to have music downloaded to your phone to be able to play!

2.0.6
2018-04-05
This version fixes a crash that would happen on iOS 11.3.
2.0.5
2017-12-04
After the last update, it appears iOS 11.2 fixes the issue of music occasionally starting from the beginning of a song and not at a random location. This update removes the temporary fix put last update that attempted to bypass that issue.

If you still experience the music start issue, please update your device to the latest version of iOS. Thanks you!
2.0.4
2017-12-01
• iPhone X support.
• Fixed* an issue where songs all started from the beginning instead of at a random point.
• Fixed a crash when first running the app after instillation.

* It seems like this issue may be with newer versions of iOS on Apple's end. There's been some discussion online, but no clear answer given Apple's documentation for MPMusicPlayer is being followed to set the initial time. If you hear breaks and or stuttering in many songs when playing, let me know and I'll continue investigating this.
2.0.3
2016-06-01

2015-10-23

- Added some toggle options
-- Auto advance to the next round
-- Stop music when leaving a game

- Fixed some crashes.

I've rewritten the app to be faster, more reliable, and make it easier to add features! This release include quite a few new features that have been suggested by users. Keep the feedback coming!

NEW

- App icon and design.
- FILTERS! The most requested feature. Now you can stop certain artists, genres, or songs from playing. You can even choose to play only certain playlists!
- New game type (Shuffle). One game can now play play Songs, Artists, and Albums.
- Play as long as you want in any mode. No more limit of 30 songs. After the post game screen just select "Play More".
- Speaking of post game screen, there's a new Post Game screen!
- Social interaction. Challenge your friends to get the highest score.
- Keep the music going. You can now play music from the main menu and have that last song continue after you've finished.

iPhone 6s Users:
Jump right in to a game with 3D Touch actions from the home screen!

If you like this version, please consider leaving a review on the store. Each review helps a ton!

** 2.0.1 fixes a crash if a media item in your library doesn't have album artwork. Sorry about that.

Added some code to help me better see app crashes and any other issues that you guys hopefully never experience. This leads to me being able to fix issues faster and better. Thanks for all the feedback!
1.2.2
2015-08-07
Fixed a bug that would cause the first song to not play after playing finishing a round.
1.2.1
2015-07-30
- Compatibility for devices running iOS 8.4
- Compatibility for using tracks from Apple Music

Fixed the app 'freezing' when attempting to start a game.

*Note: It seems that due to a bug with how track info is received from Apple Music, the 'Guess Year' quiz mode may be unavailable. This is due to Apple Music not providing a release date for tracks.
1.2.0
2014-12-18
Do you remember when your favorite album was released? If so take your knowledge to the test by guessing the album year!

*** New Game Mode ***
- Play by guessing the release year of the playing song.
- No more racing against the clock to get the highest score.
- Take your time and enter the year you think the album was released. Your score gets higher the further you are away. Try for the lowest score!

*** Bug Fixes ***
If you looked at the options previously you saw the option for this new game mode but trying to play it would crash the app. Sorry about that! Keep it selected and rock on!

If you like the game please take a moment to leave a short review in the store. It really helps individual developers like myself out! If you ever run into problems with the game click the feedback button in the options menu to let me know and I'll get everything sorted out.
1.1.0

*** New Game Mode ***
Try out the new survival mode to see how long you can last. Unlimited songs and the round only ends when you miss one.

*** Universal App ***
The app is now universal. So enjoy it on your iPod, iPhone and iPad. Includes support for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. The app can now also be used in landscape mode to fit whatever feels more comfortable for you.

Love It, but the filter isn’t working
I know the option to choose which songs you play with used to work, because there was a time I literally chose one artist and it only brought his songs up when playing the game. Now I have to use my whole library even after extensive filtering to play differently. It’s still fun, but I’d love to be able to filter out random karaoke tracks, etc. again. It seems like it’s probably a glitch that can hopefully be fixed.
Raida The Blade,
Good but Glitchy and Feature-Light
This game delivers on the core premise, but it falls a bit short in a few areas. It has all of the basic options but lacks a few that would be nice, like round lengths or longer/shorter score timers. It also has a noticeable lag between each song, which hampers the flow of getting into the game. Finally, I’ve encountered a glitch several times where the round begins with a few seconds of silence, and then the score timer jumps to halfway and a song not in the selections begins playing.

This game really doesn’t have far to go to be excellent. One or two more features and some performance tweaks/bug fixes are all it would take, as the core of the game really is solid.
PrufrockJ,
Great, but not as good as iQuiz
This is really fun. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because iQuiz, which was free and included on the iPod Classic, is sooo much better, varying the types of questions and challenges and featuring a fun gameshow-style interface. It’s ridiculous that decades later we have to settle for a much blander and more monotonous game. That being said, this is still very fun and totally worth the $.99, hence the four stars.
fillups44,
Nice way to play with your tunes!!
Thanks for creating this. I missed this option on my current device! I like the different options for playing! It would be fun if you could throw in a game where we had to match the album art or maybe we had to figure out the year a song came out, however what is here is excellent and plays like a dream. Thanks again!
Homeslice5204,
Great but needs a couple fixes
It’s great to have this game and have the option to disable the iCloud music - making it the closest thing to the old Music Quiz game from the classic iPods.

Couple things though: first, we need the option for more than 10 rounds - maybe 20 or 50, or even the option to set our own.

Also, why do some songs have to play twice in the same round, especially when we have a ton of songs on our devices? That’s unnecessary and it definitely needs a fix there.

Otherwise, this is a great game that I’m pretty happy to have, especially to kill time. Thanks and great job!
bob469205,
Excellent!!
Awesome take on the classic game. Literally the only app that lets you guess from your own music library. My only complaint would be that each round is only 10 songs. I would love the option to select how many, including an unlimited option. Performance, appearance, and ease of use are all spectacular. Awesome job!!
teuthus,
Great game
This is the answer that I was looking for when I decided to get the game, and yes, the full version is definitely worth the money. Would like the option to choose the amount of songs, but still rating it five stars because it deserves it. :)
hannahbrostrom,
Really great, but filter doesn’t work.
I loved the Lite version and wanted to try out the paid version to see how well I knew a specific artist, only to find the filter option doesn’t work. It uses the selected artist for the first song, but doesn’t after that. A little disappointing since that’s why I paid for the full version, but still fun anyway!
meeg13,
I love this app!
I’ve been looking for a good, simple music quiz with questions based off my own library for literally years. My old iPod nano had the game, and I’ve never been able to find one like it. This is the closest I’ve found in 10 years. I love it! Keep it simple, it is fun just the way it is.
Kraks81,
So much potential
This app is possibly one of the only apps that uses your library. This is such a great start to what I see as a top music quiz app. I’m excited that the developer has so much passion to make this the best app for the user. I can’t wait to see how this app develops in the future.
