Description

Musical Meter makes learning to read and play music rhythms fun. Thanks to its innovative, two-hand design, our app teaches you not only when to play a note but how long to hold it. Visual representations and animated examples let you see and hear how to play each music symbol. Interactive, randomly generated levels ensure you truly understand the subject matter. Our notation looks professionally engraved so you’ll be ready to read real sheet music. This precision app will hone your timing and help you develop a strong, internalized sense of rhythm.

This first app in the Musical Meter suite introduces the following concepts:
• simple time (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, and 2/2)
• whole, half, and quarter notes and rests
• dotted half notes
• ties

NOTE: Levels in 2/4 time are free. A one-time payment enables the entire app.

Sight reading and timing exercises are mentally demanding, so have fun but remember to pace yourself.

Enjoy!

Tardis1618,
Perfect
There are few apps like this one, and this one is great!! It really helps you to get rhythm specially if you want to learn music, the intuitive design is perfect, and it gives you examples prior starting the exercise, totally recommended
Sarssssssssssssssss,
WORKS!!
Really wanted to learn to read music and this is probably the best app I've tried into getting me to learn it. It helps understand the tempo and what all the signs mean in those terms at a good pace. Definitely recommend!!
80haskell,
Fun and challenging
This is how a simple music learning app should be. The challenge to the games makes it a self competitive way to learn your rhythms
Joe628,
Great App
Very happy with this. It's pretty simple which is what you need. I'm a guitarist and this seems to really help me to become proficient at the rhythm aspect of reading music.
drdrace,
What a well made app!
It's a little challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's waaay better than traditional learning of rhythm in standard notation!
Ben in Nashville,

Awesome for a free app
Love the way the games work. I did have some knowledge of the symbols unlike somebody with no knowledge. This app is a keeper.

Really great app
SFVoice Teacher,
Great Idea, Odd Implementation
I really like the idea for this app. I teach music, and am always looking for new ways to engage my students. I think 90% of this app is good, unfortunately the other 10% spoils the app.

The app looks great, and is easy to understand. The challenges are set up in a way that teaches and engages the player. They start out simple, but then the tempo and complexity increase as the challenges progress. The only problem I have with this app, and it's a big one, is that the count down into each challenge is "2-1." When you count into a musical measure, you count up, as in, "1-2-3-4." Counting backwards is incredibly counterintuitive and simply confusing. My students find it frustrating, and I have to admit I do too. If I were to make one change to this app, it would be to count into each challenge as if it were a musical measure to be played. Then the app would become a 5 star, fantastic teaching tool. Right now, it's kind of fun, but not something I'd spend a lot of time using, and I wouldn't invest in the advanced versions.
