When the so-called “Jesus Movement” arrived in Southwest Florida in the early 1970s, it brought with it an interest in the Holy Spirit and a distaste for the rigid rules of the denominations.

Beginning with a series of meetings that took place near 17th Street and Tuttle Avenue in Sarasota, a group of people began to form around serving the community, loving each other, and seeking the richness of the charismatic experience.

Since those early days, The Tabernacle has been a place where people from all backgrounds can find acceptance, the teaching of the Word of God, and a place to worship and serve with like-minded people who love the Lord and our community.
