texasbaby,
Good puzzles and games
I don’t play games for the cut scenes or the storyline so if this something you like this review probably wont mean much, but I do love a detective game where you can change locations and they bring new and different puzzles This one truly has great puzzles combined with great detective sequences. *It has a map to show you where to go if you get stuck (on easy level). *It doesn’t have any upgrades or “lives” to cost you any extra money! *It has good hidden object scenes. I wouldn’t say they are the hardest Ive ever come across, but they put them in at the right times and it works nicely. *You can replay all the hidden object scenes whenever you want after you’ve finished the full game *There are a few difficulty levels to choose from and there is always the “hint” button if you ever need it. *The price is fantastic for what you get! And Big Fish Games has the best options for this style of game: a little detective work, HOS, location changes, thought puzzles (although I always skip the math ones haha,) etc. *Big Fish Games has the best graphics out there for this kind of game. I would recommend all of their Mystery Case Files Collection including Ravenhurst as well as their Bound series and Queen Sands. 5 stars from me! Happy Puzzling fellow Detective Puzzlers!!
The Wyzzyrd,
Addictive!
Here’s what I like most about this game. You don’t need energy, or lives, or anything else to play. You can get the trail version for free, and if you like it, you can buy the full version for pocket change. No other in-app purchases. It follows a story from start to finish. You have to be pretty clever to solve some of the puzzles, but if you can’t figure them out, you can download the guide, for free, and it gives you the solutions. The only thing I don’t like about the guide is it keeps pestering you to turn on notifications, even after you click cancel. The only downside, is it does finish, and you have to make a new profile to play it again, but why would you? It was very satisfying for the price. I don’t want to play it again, unless I get bored and forget how it ends. It’s a very refreshing change from most of the games in the store.
ZBCG,
Great Addition to the series, but not as good as some others
This is my absolute favorite hidden object series. I actually like the adventure, story, and puzzles more than finding hidden objects. I love puzzles, and the puzzles in this series are the best. I am deducing a star because, even though I played (and always do) on the hardest level, I thought the puzzles were easier than usual and the game seemed shorter as well. I will continue to buy and play subsequent releases, but hopefully the puzzles will be more creative and challenging next time around. Also, I don’t understand why Big Fish is no longer selling the backlog of this series on the App Store. Sad only a handful of games are available.

PS- I read a couple of other reviews, and they said there were too many puzzles and they were too hard. There are hundreds of HO games to choose from that are easier to play. Stick to those and let me have this series as is!!!
Mair's rain,
Black Veil makes my top 10!
This was fun! This was my first run through, and I had to skip a few puzzles. I’m usually pretty good at them, but some were nice and tough. I like that. I will play again and try finish them all. I also love HOS, so you can never have too many of those, as far as I’m concerned. The graphics are very good where you can tell an egg-roll from a snail. The story and characters are very well done. Watch out on how addictive this is! I couldn’t put it down! I had a hard time catching all the puzzle pieces because some of the scenes were too dark. I’ve downloaded the guide, so hopefully I can work through what I missed on the first run through. I’m a tail end Baby Boomer and just love the G5 Big Fish mystery games. You can tell a lot of hard work and awesome talent went into this game. Keep them coming and thank you!
The Play-a,
Eipix brings another winner!
Of all of The Big Fish Game creators that aren't given nearly enough credit, Eipix is number one! I honestly don't play anything but their series' anymore. They have stepped up the HOPA game to whole new level. I love the multi part puzzles, the mini games inside the HO areas and the artwork. Beautiful, beautiful artwork. I will probably never enjoy any of the voice over work but that's just my own personal bias. All in all, every Eipix release in 2017 has deserved a 5 star review. And I never even bother to write reviews anymore. I just hope BF keeps them in board.
ramonajk,
Tired theme
I really wanted to like this game. I do want to explore a small town in Scotland with a dark secret! But this is not that. It’s the same old tired horror scenery that could have been taken from 90% of other casual games. I loved the original Ravenhearst games, the Enigmatis series, and the older MCF games and got completely sucked into the plots. Part of the engaging magic of those games is that you’re exploring an environment that’s otherwise normal, and the spooky elements then become that much more affecting. If the whole game is just stereotypical horror imagery, it completely ruins the suspension of disbelief. In this game, there is no explanation for who built these creepy vast environments or why, or how it furthers the villain’s nefarious goals to have the creepiest fantasy-horror lair possible. In summary, amping up the horror imagery may appeal to 14 year old goth kids, but it does not make for a high quality game. This is just a carbon copy of the many other horror/mystery casual games out there.
Tiramisu321,
The Mystery of the Aging Anomaly
Updated: I am deducting a star because the HOS scenes after the trial are mainly lists and the graphics are decreasing in quality.

Based on free trial: Right from the start, I was ensnared by the beautiful and mysterious opening cutscene with a strange creature whose head is wrapped in bandages saving a war veteran. The graphics seem like they have improved, but some cleaning would be great to enhance the game. The puzzles and HOS are creative and challenging which is expected in this series. I LOVE find and use HOS, especially the one in this game. A couple of puzzles are incorporated into the HOS as well. The pace is a little bit faster in my opinion than other MCF games which I do enjoy. The plot will most likely unfold even more as I progress because I will purchase this game! My true rating is 4.5 due to graphics, but I am rounding it up to 5 stars!
Bad Kitty 123,
Confusing and Pointless Storyline
I normally like MCF and I do not have a problem with dark games, both in subject matter and artistic style. However, I found this game to be confusing. The puzzles were either super easy or totally confusing to the point I just skipped them. Not fun. My main issue was with the storyline, particularly the bonus game. I'm a UCLA grad, I should be able to follow a storyline, yet I seriously have no idea what happened in the (very brief) bonus game. The main game ending was not much better. Also, fans of HO's may be disappointed since there did not seem to be many. As for positives: there was a journal and teleporting map, puzzle pieces to find in each scene, morphing objects in HO scenes (although I didn't even realize this until I was nearly finished with the main game).
KatyLynn,
Not my favorite MCF game, but worth a play!
I’ve been a big fan of Big Fish’s Mystery Case Files games for years...Dire Grove, Ravenhearst, 13th Skull to name a few...and was excited to try this one. Great graphics and voice acting, but found myself skipping puzzles and using the Hint button because I was at a loss far too many times for my liking. Interesting concept for sure, but the ending was a bit abrupt and didn’t wrap up a the story as I would have hoped. Definitely worth a play, but not my favorite of the series. Also, not sure what happened to the back log of the other MCF games in this series?! Would love to go back and play Dire Grove but it’s no longer in the App Store??
Strange_Unusual,
Huh?
I have gone way out of my way to try to buy this game. It tells me that you can’t buy from within the game. It’s the first time I’ve gotten that message, but fine, I’ll try some other way. But no matter where I try to do it, it won’t let me. I liked the game as far as I could go and I expect that it would continue to be good. But I couldn’t say since I can’t go anywhere from here. I would think that there would be redundant opportunities to buy from an eager customer but so far, no joy. Let me know when I can finish the game.
