This version adds a number of new features, bugfixes, an updated app icon and logo, and minor UI updates.

• Elevation Profiles: Visually see the climbs and descents of your adventure as you're recording and afterwards
• Pause Trip Recordings: Temporarily stop a trip recording if you don’t want to include a detour in your journey
• Trail Search: Search for any trail on the map
• External Link Sections: Place pages now have external link sections making it easier to go to the official website or Wikipedia page for that place
• Place Overlays: If you are on a river page, the river will be highlighted on the map (same goes for trails and more)
• Optionally update the public / private flag of all on notes of a trip when changing the trip's privacy settings.
• Bugfixes: Fixed broken website links on user profiles, fixed data sync issues when using the app across multiple devices, increased filtering of a elevation readings for more accurate elevation gain stats

As always, behind the scenes we've been continually hard at work to improve map coverage. If you like the app, we'd really appreciate a rating on the App Store to help bring more people to Natural Atlas.

Cpsbodie,
Natural Atlas saved me today
I’ve tried several apps to document my kayaking trips including relive and some others. This is by far the best solution for my needs. So much detail and interesting facts about your trip provided by the app without you even trying.
NA saved me today! I got lost in Big Cypress Bayou, and I had no cell reception to use maps. Pulled up my trusty Natural Atlas app, and it had my every move recorded. I’d still be out there if it wasn’t for NA-thank you!
DReihl9896,
Beautiful maps, but...
These are by far the nicest maps I have used. They look beautiful and provide all the detail that one would want without seeming cluttered. However, the app lacks some of the user friendliness in the field that other hiking apps provide. Full screen mode as well as being able to see private notes and waypoints on the main map (without having to go through menus to find them)would go a long way in terms of creating a user experience that matches the beauty of the maps themselves, and that surpasses the value of the subscription price. As it stands, a better experience may be had by utilizing another topo app that licenses these maps.
gdvjgtu,
Just get it already
I don’t write reviews ever but this is the best app I’ve ever owned and it felt unfair to not give the developers credit, I don’t use it for the typical hike, bike, camping aspects of the app that they portray. If you are a fisherman get it. I track all of my floats, wades and trips. It shows elevation changes, average speed, miles etc. and you can add notes for each trip, best app Ive ever owned and I won’t go on a trip even if it’s just to a small creek to wade without it.
Acid_Myst,
One of the best trail mapping apps out there
Natural Atlas is frankly one of the best apps for trail exploration, discovery, and navigation. It contains tons of information often only found in specialized sources, such as primitive campsites in the Adirondacks and local trails only targeted mapping organizations have covered. It’s interface and design is very comfortable, offline and map printing capability, and I’m all for supporting a small family team of outdoor enthusiasts / developers making a tool like this for everyone.
ccatte,
Favorite hiking app
I have several hiking apps and Natural Atlas is my favorite! The topo maps are detailed and easy to read. I also like that my hikes are synced to my account so I can see them on my computer. When I'm planning a hike, Natural Atlas is where I go to study topo maps. The developers are also great! They respond quickly to emails and appreciate comments and suggestions. Thanks for this great app!
Repo2,
Super useful, why no one finger zooming?
Love the app. Usually I use COTREX, but I’m not always in Colorado! One issue I run into though is you can’t do the trick where you tap and then tap and slide your finger to zoom. Without this feature, one handed navigation is difficult. COTREX and every other map app I’ve used allows this!
Bwwbww,
Documentation
Where can I find documentation for Natural Atlas?
I’d like to read about it, instead of having to stumble around the screen. I think I’m going to like it; reading about it , could cut the learning curve to hours not days. Thanks
StanJose,
No support for iPhoneX or newer
Natural Atlas has the best maps, hands down. They are beautiful to look at and the easiest to read of all the various mapping apps out there. However as of the time of this review, the app hasn’t been updated in 2 years and appears letterboxed on any iPhone with a notch, losing about 20% of the available screen space. Crossing my fingers that the developer will be able to get back to this app at some point. I will happily adjust my rating if that ever happens.
Schnautz07,
Once the best. Now neglected.
When I first started using Natural Atlas, I was confident that I had found the best app for recording my hikes. It didn’t have all the trails I sought, but the developers were very responsive and mapped new trails within a few weeks of someone recording them.

Then, all of a sudden, their base maps stopped working. The developers said they were aware of the issue, and would be releasing an update to fix it soon.

That was 2.5 years ago.

It’s been 3 years since this app has been updated, and it’s quickly falling from favor in my books.

Maps that don’t load, and the lack of development are sure to be the nail in this once-great app.
Kliffyyyy,
Has potential
The ocean topography map is awesome, however it feels the features are quite limited. Would be cool if we could input our own gps coordinates rather than only taking what the phone reads or even measuring distances, etc
