Description

The Navajo Toddler App is designed for children ages 2 to 9 to learn to speak the Navajo language through the use of interactive visual flashcards, audio, and gameplay lessons.

The use of the app will introduce children to basic Navajo vocabulary in categories such as numbers, food, colors, body parts, common sayings, and animals. Children can flip through the fun illustrated flash cards for a visual association of the word and listen to the audio pronunciation of each word to get familiar with how the word is spoken. Once a child becomes familiar with the words they can play a visual and audio game that will give them three fun illustrations to choose from and one word in Navajo to increase there memory of words and pronunciation. The game is random and kids can keep playing an increase their knowledge of the language.

Learning Navajo is a fun and exciting exercise for your child especially at a very young age. With the Navajo Toddler app, your child will enjoy the attraction of interactive flashcards, audio, and the positive feedback and progression through gameplay of the play module.

wood-agm,
Navajo Toddler App
I love the Navajo pronunciation of the words. The words sound like my mother-in-law spoke them. My two grandchildren (7 year old girl and 4 year old boy) are 1/4 Navajo. They want to learn their native language. The Navajo words match the English words but they do not match the pictures. This is especially confusing for the 4 year old who can’t read the English words. This app is perfect for them and for me (an Anglo) for a review of common words. Please, please fix the pictures!! Thank you for creating this app.
cssudler,
Needs update
I have had this app for a few years. I am half-Navajo so it helps me a little and my kids learn basic words. However, I just noticed (Jan 2020) that my app is no longer correct. Once the automatic update happened the words do not match the picture. For example, in the numbers section, it would say the Navajo word for 1, but showed 18. I tried to delete the app and add it again, but it did not work. This needs to be corrected fast.
SwaylaTelo,
Pictures?
The pictures don’t match the words. Please, please fix this. It’s an amazing app and I love the way it was created and the detail. It’s just this one thing holding it back from being a 5 star success, the words not matching the pictures. Please, please fix this so it can be used the way it was intended, to nurture the new generation’s hunger for the Díne language! Many blessings and well wishes!!!
Meladiekar,
Works great
Has basic colors and items. Clear pronunciation so words are easy to pick up. Though, I do wish the also had the English word to help my toddler associate more then just a picture. Also if the picture were itself animated with facial features, like a brain or door having eyes so that also made it confusing. But, Great and simple app for free!
why i love stop motion,
Good
I from the Diné tribe and grow up on the reservation. The voice is most definitely awesome and sound like grandma. However some of the words don’t match the picture so remind your little one when learning. I am uncertain about the whole world because that’s what I was trying to learn. Still a good app.
jlzfyrbyrd,
Needs some corrections
I love is app. I started using it again and I realized that some of the words don’t match the picture. It is confusing. I love using this app with my preschooler because I have trouble pronouncing some. Please fix it, please. Thank you for creating this being online now this really helps.
Diné T,
Used to love this app until it started glitching.
This app was great for my son and I to pick up simple words. In the last couple years it started glitching and the wrong images are coming up on words. It’s sad because I want to share it other Navajo friends but it misleading. I hope it get mad fixed!
ha-nn-ah,
Great but needs work
It’s great to help my son learn his language because I don’t speak it, but can you please fix the app? It has words and pictures mixed up (I.e. it will have a picture of a cow but be labeled as a dog, etc), so my son is getting confused. Also if you guys could expand it that would be great! This is the only app I’ve seen for this age group.
brickovski,
Pronounciations
Compliments to the developer. Amazing pronounciations. Way better than the limited few words on Duolingo. It would be great if the pictures and text match better.
eric gibson,
Words are right pictures are wrong
The speaker is obviously a dinè Navajo native speaker. BUT the pictures do NOT match up with the words. Sash is bear but it shows a picture of a sheep. Needs to be fixed. It’s a GREAT little app for your young one otherwise.
