Because Reddit has ended for-free access to the Reddit API, NetNewsWire will stop using the Reddit API on June 30. We’ve left your Reddit feeds intact. If you have any starred items from those feeds, they will remain as long as you don’t delete those feeds. You can still read whatever you have already downloaded. Feeds using the Reddit API will no longer update, starting June 30.
However, if you remove the Reddit extension from NetNewsWire, you can subscribe to Reddit RSS feeds and continue to follow Reddit activity.

A free premium experience
I’m using voice dictation on the iPhone to write this review. So my apologies for any weird words. I can’t say enough about this app. It has so many features that other paid apps have if it’s absolutely free. Are used to use the Google RSS reader until they shut that project down. And then I used a very nice paid RSS reader. However it was becoming annoying to spend money every year just to keep access to that app. NetNewsWire provides all the features that I liked from thePaid up I used to use. These features include full support for iOS accessibility feature called voice over. Dark mode support, iCloud syncing support, the ability to tap one button and see the full text of the article, and so much more. This is one of those few applications that I don’t hesitate to recommend people. My hat is truly off to the developer.

Could be more awesome
This app is great. I like being able to view RSS feeds in a simple view and access all of the features of a typical feed reader. However, there should be some other features too.
1. Group your RSS feeds. If I have multiple feeds that relate to the same topic, why can’t I group them? There should be a way to browse through your articles by group and see articles that are only related to a specific topic while maintaining iCloud sync in one account.
2. There should be an option to manually “delete” RSS feed items by swiping left instead of right. This is different from deleting an entire feed and all of the articles in it. By “delete”, I mean hide an article from your list and remove the download from your device.
3. Speaking of downloads, there should be an option to see how much space your downloaded RSS feed articles take up on your device and manage the ones you no longer need.
4. More themes would be great. You should be able to make a custom theme using a main color and an accent color. For example, the app can be made green with the menu buttons being a lighter green. Maybe there could be an option to change the app icon for NetNewsWire.

Good, but could be significantly better
I used to use NetNewsWire years ago and loved it, I was so disappointed when it went away. I was excited to hear NNW coming back and that it would be available on my current devices (iPad/iPhone). However, over the years have experienced many new ways to consume my news including Feedly and News+.
When NNW was released, I was hoping that it would significantly improve my news reading experience, as it did years ago. Unfortunately, NNW feels to be the same app/workflow as it was back then with little evolution other than being on my iDevice.
Adding features such as Category (folder) views, device feed sharing (iCloud Drive), newspaper style view, duplicate elimination/aggregation, recommended feeds, auto category forward, and auto-read would make NNW my go-to news reading solution. Until then it will have to remain a throwback novelty.
Hopefully, these suggestions will help NNW become better and eventually become THE best RSS Feed reader available, as it once was.

So Happy to be Using Again
NetNewsWire was an RSS pioneer. If I’m not mistaken, I paid for it years ago . . . and then other readers came along, were better, and I jumped ship. There are plenty of excellent readers out there, but this version of NNW is amazingly fast, simple to use, and minimalist. Over the years, apps became more sophisticated, adding so many features that ultimately just added complexity and bloat. While NNW is lacking in some areas, I just don’t need or want anything more that what NNW offers now. Polish, yes. Occasional UI improvements, sure. Added services, bring ‘me on. But, for the most part, NNW is fantastic as is and makes RSS reading a joy again. Thanks to the developer(s). Well done.

Don't normally write reviews but this is worth it. I've used the desktop version for a while and this is a great companion to that. I don't do any syncing, just use the same set of feeds on my iPad, phone, and desktop- so I can't comment on syncing- but for local feeds it's excellent. The iPad app in particular has extensive keyboard shortcuts if you use a physical keyboard, something lacking on most rss readers.
One feature request: Would love a way to sync over iCloud so I don't have to use third party services (I had an rss reader years ago that did this) but beyond that no complaints.

iPad App Gets No Love from Devs
The iPhone app is a solid 4 to 4.5 stars. It is missing a few nice-to-have non-critical features, but is otherwise amazing for its non-intrusive, non-datamining, non-advertising nature...5 stars when compared to some popular apps. But the iPad app is so slow and unstable I usually switch to my phone out of frustration...no matter how much nicer it may be to read in large format. 100% of the time I will lose use of the navigation buttons at some point. They go grey and don't come back. In order to get them back I have to force-close and restart. Then comes the waiting, as the app must then refresh my feeds...this happens at a much slower rate than my iPhone8, which is weird because it has a faster processor. Please give some love to the iPad app. It needs it.

Excellent minimalist news reader but needs two things...
I've been through all the major feed readers over the years and have even been there to see some fade away or put down. Now while simplifying my computing life, NetNewsWire is where I've landed for RSS and I'm glad to be here. I love the ~just works~ simplicity but desperately miss one major feature not provided :: KEYWORD SEARCH. The other thing would be an included link to be able to tip the developer a well deserved cup of coffee. Regards~

Good and fast - but I can’t find one feature.
Works great except it would be even better to have a setting that would automatically remove a feed entry after a user defined period of time. For instance, remove all entries after 48 hours unless marked with a star.
It must be removing them at some point (or maybe not?) but I’m not sure when that is and it is not configurable as far as I can tell. Would be wonderful to let the users have the power to manage the content in this fashion.

Great app! Including a few desires for the future.
Thanks for a great app, it’s smooth and works really well. Some features that would put it up there with other RSS apps would be thumbnails featuring the primary image, filtering to include/exclude keywords, ai voice reading to listen to posts, saved read progress for abandoned posts, and the ability to make highlights that can be shared or synced to other apps like Obsidian. Oh and an auto-generated account email to point newsletters to!

Absolutely fantastic
This RSS reader is everything I was looking for to replace Feedly. It’s a simple, no frills app that gets the job done. Once you get through the pain of setup, you’re good to go. The only thing I’d like to see is: when scrolling past an article, I wish NetNewsWire would mark it as read. This could be a toggle option in settings for people who don’t want that, but it would help me better manage my aggregate feed. But I love this app.
