I’ve played tennis most of my life and coached/competed at the collegiate and professional level.
Everyone who is looking to improve at any skill understands the concept of “deliberate practice”. It’s not just about the hours, it’s about honing in on the right thing and reinforcing it through repetition. We all know of those weekend warriors who, although might try in earnest, never seem to never get better after countless hours on court.
When we are practicing (hopefully deliberately), we probably have a couple of key things we are working on, while also being aware of the databank of cues from all the coaches we’ve ever had in our lives to remind ourselves to lock in the correct movement patterns, timing, and technique.
I can’t always rely on my vaporous memory and wavering focus to help me pull up the right cue, at the right time, in the right drill. I might only be after a mistake that I even question what I did incorrectly instead of pro-actively searching, anticipating, and adjusting.
But what if you had an app that could help you do just that? What if you could grab all those cues you already know of and capture them in a single device that prevents you from going brain-dead in practice and slipping into that state of chaotic oblivion where you struggle to retain your focus on even the most technically basic movements?
[And one of the great things about this app is that it’s neutral! Unlike your coach, you won’t feel like ripping it’s head off after it gives you a cue for the umpteenth time.]
This is the app you can work with to input what you need to hear and it will regurgitate that info to you at the precise time you need to hear it. This helps for a number of reasons: (1) You deliberately plan your practices with the app and create custom lessons; (2) whether your coach is present or not, your practice WILL be deliberate; (3) The databank of drills and lesson plans ALONE is worth the money even if you don’t create your own custom lessons!
So.. there are a few things working for me here when I use neurotennis...(a) I’m thinking ahead about what I need to work on and I’m using the app as a tool to keep my practice (or that of my players) extremely targeted. (b) The devices know when either myself or my opponent has hit a ball so the cues are timely and get me in the habit of preparing to give me the greatest chance for successful execution of a shot or movement, (c) neurotennis is a repository of information. I have found some great drills, lessons and cues that are already programmed for me without needing to do anything, and (d) I can share the lessons with my players whether I’m around that day or not!
It’s worth it.💪🏽
