Don't bother with this
The theory about how it works makes some sense. Use the camera lens at its widest aperture to gather as much light as possible and "see" an enhanced view of the surroundings, as compared to naked eyes.
The problem is that your device certainly is not equipped with the hardware to do this job effectively. Consumer cameras (and phones/tablets) are generally not equipped with the type of monster lens that would be required to squeeze some light out of what your eyes would perceive as darkness. That's why they come with flashes. Don't think for a minute that some obscure app will turn your tablet into a military-grade set of night vision goggles. Two things will happen: (1) you'll find yourself staring at a dark screen and (2) you'll close the app and turn the iPad around and use the display as a lighting device.

Don't listen to the trolls.
Those who are just seeing a black screen aren't taking the time to learn how to use it. The idea that all of the positive reviewers were paid is just absurd - this is a $2 app, people.
Of course it's not IR, and it's not claiming to be. The picture is enhanced digitally, so you do need at least a little bit of light - enough for your eyes to see with, and maybe a smidgen more.
Yes, it's grainy - but it's a *cool* kind of grainy, because it really is actual, functional low-light vision, giving you a dramatic amount of detail where the regular camera would only yield a blank screen. It's bloody well amazing, and I couldn't recommend it more highly.

HORRIBLE
If your truly looking to see in the pitch black, DONT BUY THIS APP. It's only made for soft lighting. It's like a camera with little extra enhancement. And whoever said that you have to mess with the "settings" so your capable of seeing in the dark, yea well your wrong. I messed with all the settings and what do you know, just another garbage app and complete total waste of money. I can't believe you even charge $3 for this app. What a rip off, I feel robbed. Not even 5 minutes later and I deleted it even after paying $3. Bunch of hustlers, that's all they are...

Outstanding Low Light Photography!
Call this app what you will - "Night Vision" does not use traditional technology such as a light amplification tube, however this app does in fact amplify the iPhone camera's sensitivity to light and does it better than any other app I've ever used. Perfect for extreme lowlight street photography. Would even work quite well in a movie theater or moonlit forest. The photo processing algorithm is excellent leaving you with usable and relatively low noise in your image. what a great app!

Excellent Implementation
Definitely it is not a toy but professional mechanism for taking pictures at night.
Before downloading I was a little bit hesitating whether or not do it on my old iPhone5, but it turned out that it works excellently. As implementer I managed to squeal whatever one could not even imagine, but it`s night régime camera works professionally . Not only filtering but something much more better,It shows pictures in extremely dark places.

My favorite app
I often take walks in the city at night, love photography and look around for good shots. Downloaded different night mode cameras, some of them work ok but slow and the night vision mode screen drags. With this app
You don't have such problems, you open it, attune and there you got a clear night view of the city. Make lots of shots, and share it in the net right away! Thanks to the creators! Looking forward to update soon

Great App
Great fantastic application that truly works in the darkest of situations has a little difficulty deleting or I can’t figure out how to delete more than one file at once or fast forwarding through videos but if you’re looking for a nighttime camera that truly works this app is for real worth the three or four dollars definitely and I love the way that you can be recording and switch forward or backwards on the cameras and it continues to record that is a great feature alone

Good product
The product is good, for I found a lot of use in it, and every time I make a beautiful frame the picture is always saved with a high quality. I have told so many people about the app. It is not a lie it is amazing. My girlfriend could not find a picture app to help her then I told her about this one and now she is so happy. If more people get this app more people will enjoy.

Does a respectable job in very low light
Where the normal camera app would display almost total blackness, this app ramps up the contrast and brightness in real time so you can make out what's there. Could the same be accomplished by using a normal photo and running filters on it? Sure but you wouldn't know what you were shooting before you shot it.

Wow! Surprisingly Works!
While buying this app I was sure it doesn't work. Though when I tried it it worked! When iOS camera shows completely black, with this I can see almost absolutely clear! Of course this camera doesn't show in the "Dark, Dark" but still perfectly works!!! Buy it!!!
