Description

The peasants of Nottingham bow under the weight of Prince John’s taxes; nobles fall to the Sheriff’s political machinations; deserters from the Crusades pillage the land; and fairies lure the unwary into the depths of mist-shrouded Sherwood Forest, never to be seen again. Step into the chaos of a magical England at the end of the Third Crusade. Maid Marian hides breathless amidst the brambles after the sack of her father’s castle; Little John charges a bodyweight in gold to cross a lonely log; and Will Scarlet holds court in a brokedown tower surrounded by trees as tall as the sky, waiting for a king who will never come. The time is ripe, a spark is lit – from the ashes of your home, from the shadow of anonymity, step into legend. You are Robin Hood.

Nocked! is a lushly-illustrated, text-driven role-playing game playable for minutes or hours at a time. Define the deeds and identity of Robin Hood, outlaw of Sherwood Forest; recruit allies, forge alliances, find love; and chart a path between war, negotiation, and dangerous magics. Your choices are remembered and your actions shape the world, but you can’t do it alone.

Story and strategy collide as your reputation spreads and Merry Men join your band: Build and expand a base in the hidden deeps, manage your earnings from raids on tax collectors, and prepare for the coming of the Sheriff of Nottingham. There is no sure and easy path to victory, no one decision that will save your resistance; will you fall beneath the Sheriff’s boot heel, or will you build a movement to last the ages? The choice is yours.

Hear ye! Robin's last arrow was a bit out of true. I made a mistake in the last update; a couple lines of dead code have been removed, and the game should run smoothly once more.

Hear ye! It's been a while, but the Merry Men are never far from our heart.

A quick update: You can now set your own checkpoints from the bulletin board in your base (checkpoints still occur at the start of every season). Additionally, we've added a checkpoint at the epilogue. Explore the many and varied stories of Nocked at your leisure.

Note: This one change is only available on iOS. We are hoping to make this and other changes to the desktop version of Nocked in the future.

Thanks to our players for suggesting this. Get out there and find your story!

Hear ye! We just pushed a "quality of life" update. Hopefully, we haven't broken anything in the process (though be sure to ping us if we did)!

Not sure which faction the Sheriff is targeting this season? Wonder no more!

Misplaced your to-do list? Check with Friar Tuck!

And as usual, a host of minor typos and continuity fixes. Thanks for everyone who chimed in!
2.0.4

A thousand (or two) straight apostrophes converted to curlies! Notifications on when and how the Sheriff is stymying your efforts with the factions. And ever more typos quietly corrected. Keep the comments coming, and enjoy Nocked!

Nocked is now also available on desktop through Steam & itch.io with enhanced graphics and SFX/music. The soundtrack also available on Steam, itch, and Bandcamp.

The fair folk play by their own rules - Robin can no longer give gold freely to allies in order to gain renown.

And a couple other typos and fixes. Thanks to all the merry men and women who've reported bugs or questioned the game design. Keep it coming!

CAUTION! This update will break any in-progess game from July 16th, 2019 or earlier. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, and hope you'll find the new features well worth it. Speaking of which...

There's no easy way to comprehensively describe Nocked’s biggest update in almost two years. It's more than just additional words, a collection of new art and new stories; it’s a total restructuring of the game, where narrative begets mechanics to create a complete story-based RPG experience. Nevertheless, here are some of the salient changes:

-Over 100,000 words of new adventure! New side quests, a new romance (Palamedes), and a new faction system all await.
-Grace has been revised. Now use it to get out of a jam or find the best way through a problem.
-Earn Power though heroism or villainy. Draw on Power to gain Favor and Influence with the factions beyond Sherwood Forest, earn ongoing perks, and unlock new quests.
-Your path will not be unopposed; the Sheriff strikes back every season, working to diminish your influence. Work with the factions of Sherwood to counter his nefarious plans.
-Studies of the forest; a dozen pieces of new art by Amanda Spaid.
-A better balanced arrow, and bugs squashed flat. Everything that was great about Nocked is now better!
-Check out the Dev Blog at www.nockedthegame.com for an in-depth discussion of the changes and the philosophy behind them.

An Expanded Quiver of Adventure – New Content!
– The Lonely Forest – Walk the winding trails around your home in Sherwood and discover environments and events that change over the seasons. Or just get lost.
– The Architect’s Tale – The architect is having trouble adjusting to his time in the forest. Will you help, and at what price? Portentous foreshadowing included…
– The World in Review – Your scouts now report with comprehensive briefings on how your actions impact people in the world beyond your conflict with the Sheriff. If you’re lucky, they might even care.
** To all brave outlaws: These new Tales were inspired by comments from some of our intrepid players...so keep that feedback coming! There are more True Tales to be told.

Restrung, Refletched, and Refeathered – Fixes, Changes, and Minor Additions
– Increased stability in Castle Nottingham, officially earthquake-safe! – Fixed an unfortunate crash where the castle came down around your ears, rescheduled guard patrols, increased the Sheriff’s innate curiosity, and installed all-new granite countertops.
– Patched and plugged holes in the space-time continuum – Robin can no longer jump backwards in time to choose ill-advised, time-shattering actions that stop arrows in mid-flight! We can’t promise we got them all though, because, well…time bandits.
– Everyone loves a wedding – And now your friends do, too! Wedding gifts abound for the dashing, darling Robin who finds love in all the right places. Speaking of which…
– Rosalind in all the wrong places – She’s a crafty one, is Ros, always vanishing just when you have something to say. Now she’s settled down where she can be found on a regular basis.
– Don't let that old Viking get you down! – The leader of the Black Wolves can now be defeated by mere mortals, maybe, if you’re clever.
– Amaranth won’t eat your game – The dragon of Sherwood had an unfortunate propensity to devour unwary outlaws and put a stop to the fun. We’ve got her on a firm diet of guardsmen, and under strict orders: No disintegrations!
– Tpyo fixes – Ten thousand monkeys have been hard at work proofreading the Tales. What could go wrong?
– Typo fixes – We’ve fired the monkeys…
– Resource popups are now slower than the average jack-in-the-box. This is a game dependent on reading, after all.
– Don’t Redeem Grace, go on cool Special Missions instead! Language matters…
– Nocked! True Tales of Robin Hood is now: Nocked! [subtitle] True Tales of Robin Hood.
– We found the missing arrows - the whistling one, the one with the boxing glove on the end, and even the camouflage one. Versions 1.0 and 1.5.2 are now compatible.
– Nocked! 1.5, now with longer arrows.
1.5.1
2017-10-03
Missing: One Camouflage Arrow...
- Still scouring the forest for that camouflage arrow we fired off last week. New adventures abound in Nocked 1.5, but we need a full quiver for total compatibility between 1.0 and 1.5. See patch notes for version 1.5.2 for the full release information.
1.5.0
2017-09-05
Refletching in Progress...
- Looks like we've misplaced several arrows - the whistling arrow and the one with the boxing glove on the end - during archery practice. While we hunt through the underbrush, rest assured that new adventures abound in Nocked 1.5. See patch notes for version 1.5.1 for the full release information.

Choose-Your-Own Adventure with Real Replay Value!
This game is so fun, I'm playing it when I should be doing other things! But it's an auto-save system, so you can just as easily open it up in line at the DMV or on the train to work. Only a few hours in, and I know I'll be playing through it again: what would happen if I had jumped out the window instead of sneaking out in that costume?

Edit for v.1.5: The designer has been very attentive to feedback and diligent in rooting out bugs. How many permutations of endings can one game have‽
Fabia10101,
Best narrative game for iPhone
For me this is hands down the best narrative game I’ve found for iPhone, better than 80 days or Lifeline. No complicated mechanics, just a good story, lots of replayability and great presentation. This is not your average choose your own adventure where you die if you go left rather than right: you are the hero of this story and dominate it - if you mess up, you don’t get a happy ending. I really can’t wait for the authors to put out another similar game.
Cbarrionu,
Complex and addictive choose your own adventure game!
Nocked! has good storylines and adventure and is pretty addictive. The complexity and thoughtfulness of the huge amount of choices is exciting. I’ve yet to figure out how to “win;” i’ve only been mildly effective at moving the story to my benefit. I’d love to have in game save points so i could try all the branching decisions to see all the twists and turns. The art is terrific. Highly recommend!
Unidraconus,
A change of heart
At first I disliked this book due to the cost and sometimes the choices are not clear on what Robins intent is. As a HUGE choice reader I do have the say the story varies widely and is a challenge even at the easy levels in a way. Because of the diversity and the shear volume of choices it seems unfair to give this anything other than 5 stars.
Coffin?,
Charming and replayable adventure
This is a well-written and charming choose-your-own adventure with immense replayability, as you’re always left wondering what would have happened with the other choices. Technically a bit clunky at times, and it takes a while for new devices to be properly supported, but this is forgivable for an indie game.
PV50,
One of the greats
Resource management, multiple endings and different play styles makes for high replay value. The story itself is well written and really draws you in. Characters are fleshed out and really makes you care about what happens to them. One of the best available in the store right now.
Honest_user83610,
Great story game!
I read/played through multiple times on the first version. And now that the developer has released a new version with added storylines I’m stoked! So glad I never deleted this, or else I wouldn’t have seen the update. Time to revisit this old favorite and see what’s new!
Snow Rui,
Great game
Nocked! has everything you could hope for—great writing, solid mechanics, logical design, and immersive art. It also innovates compared to similar games, offering an interesting resource management element. Comparable to Sorcery!, it is a fun and highly replayable experience.
ProfessorPlanet8,
A lot of variables
I've played through the intro several time and even the very beginning has a lot of different ways to go. (I recommend stealing the horse)
Adtalkerabouter,
Fantastic
Huge fan of interactive fiction and this stands among the best. Huge differences in some paths and so much missable content.
