We won't bore you with the nitty gritty details, but this version should be faster and more accurate in general!
For those that wish to know the technical details, continue reading. Otherwise, may the dice be ever in your favor!

- XML exporting now uses home-grown solutions, instead of third-party software
Bug Fixes:

What's New in version 5.0.0:
- NPC Generation and Filtration:
- Filtration had a pretty big overhaul in 4.2, but was unfortunately still slow in some instances. We've revamped the entire filtration process and there is now almost no delay in almost every scenario!
- Generating NPCs with filters was also a painpoint for a lot of users, sometimes taking as long as 20 seconds and causing the app to crash. We took a look at this feature with new eyes and overhauled it, as well, resulting in a massive speed increase!
- The button indicating that your filters are on is no longer purely black!
- Currently active filters no longer clear when you reopen the filtration screen!
- Saved NPCS:
- There was a report that saved NPCs took up too much space in the character drawer, so we reworked the layout so that the cells are roughly 75% of their previous height on iPhone. On iPad, this screen now uses a grid layout that presents up to 3 NPCs per row. Don't worry, though, all the juicy info you need is still on the screen!
- To help alleviate the space issue noted above, we also added a search functionality in the character drawer that searches all text displayed for all saved NPCs to help narrow down the NPCs you're looking for.
- Layout Issues:
- There was a bug on the login screen that caused the fields to be much larger than what they should have been on certain iPad devices, which has now been fixed.
- The generation screen has been reworked to ditch the tabs. iPhone now uses a single, scrolling view that combines biological, combat, and roleplaying stats. iPad now uses an embellished split view that combines biological and combat stats on the left and traits and actions on the right.
- Error Reporting and Application Longevity
- We added support for Google Crashlytics to more easily squash crashes and help you guys when you have issues.
We also squashed some minor bugs not worth mentioning too much.
As always, thank you for using NPCGen5e. We apologize for not having a major update with this version, but we're planning some pretty big updates in the future. Hold on to your seats and keep those dice ready to roll for the next update, fellow GMs!
4.2
2020-04-01
What's new in version 4.2:
- In 4.1, filtration worked, but was particularly slow to do so. It has been revamped with much less strain on the device by working in tandem with the backend and is now about 110 times faster!
- I've also squished a decent amount of bugs under my boot and cleaned up the mess.
As always, thank you for using NPCGen5e. I apologize for not having a major update with this version, but I do have some plans for the future. Hold on to your seats and keep those dice ready to roll for the next update, fellow GMs!
4.1
2020-04-01
Hello, fellow nerds! In this update of NPCGen5e, I've made a lot of changes:
- Added a backend to the app hosted by Firebase
- Updated the UI to be much more sleek and modern
- Did a lot of bug fixes and optimizations
A note about Firebase: unless you have previously saved NPCs when you launch the app for the first time or attempt to save an NPC, you will be asked to sign in to Firebase. This is optional, but you won't be able to save or access saved NPC until you do.
I've got more major changes planned for NPCGen5e in the future, so keep those eyes peeled and those dice ready to roll!
4.0
2019-04-18
What's new in version 4.0:
- The interface and under-the-hood workings were causing some serious strain on the device it was being used on. We've taken a warhammer to these issues and beaten them into submission, causing a much lesser strain on your devices.
- The interface in some areas, specifically on the Settings, was lacking in appeal. These areas have been updated to be more... um... appealing.
- There was an issue where generated NPCs were being called the wrong name and/or gender in certain areas. We apologize to any NPCs for the name-calling and/or misgendering, but this should now be fixed.
- We've also squished a decent amount of bugs under our boot and cleaned up the mess.
As always, thank you for using NPCGen5e. We apologize for not having a major update with this version, but we do have some plans for the future. Hold on to your seats and keep your eyes peeled for the next update, fellow GMs!
3.1
2018-10-28
What's new in version 3.1:
- There was an error where a generated NPCs name would display as a different name for traits and attacks when filtering NPCs with challenge rating and any other filter. This has been fixed.
- General maintenance and improvements
3.0
2018-10-17
What's new in version 3.0:
WARNING: This update will delete any old NPCs you have saved. Unfortunately, the updated and much more efficient data model means that old saves aren't compatible... My apologies, but this was unavoidable and should be the last time this happens!
• Filtration has been expanded to include challenge rating and level. A word of caution concerning this, though: filtering an NPC by both challenge rating and level may cause NPCGen5e to be unable to generate a new NPC.
• Added two new occupations: the Berseker and the Healer! Smash your party's faces in and then heal them with the tap of a button!
• Added more detail to the roleplaying trait generations (mannerism, talent, bond, flaw, and appearance).
• Generated actions more closely reflect the occupation of the generated NPC. For instance, a soldier will never have a club. They can use one, but, really, why would they, when they have much better weapons to choose from?
Bug fixes and improvements:
• Updated code base to adhere to some of iOS 12's new functions.
• Added sounds to the UI for a more in-depth experience.
• Refactored the data model to be much more efficient and resource friendly.
2.1
2018-06-06
What's new in version 2.1:
There was an issue with the user's purchased version, which has been fixed. Apologies for any of you that were or will be affected by this error.
2.0.0
2018-03-28
What's New in Version 2.0.0:
WARNING: This update may erase some of your old saved NPCs. I tried to convert the old saves into new ones, but there are a few cases where it was simply impossible...
Exportable NPCs! Yes, you read that right! You can now export any NPC you generate using NPCGen5e in either a text format, as an XML, or as an NPC file.
• Text: You can use this export option to save your generated NPCs to Notes or copy to a Pages file.
• XML: You can use this export option to save your generated NPCs and import them with other specific D&D companion apps.
• NPC: You can use this export option to send your generated NPCs to other dungeon masters to import into their NPCGen5e and share the wealth.
Bug fixes and improvement:
• Fixed a major issue with the filter functionality that was causing the app to crash whenever a filter was selected
- My sincerest apologies, this wasn't happening at all on any of my test devices
• Overhauled some layout issues to make the text bigger, as it was unreadable on certain devices
• Made improvements to functionality within the app to make it a easier on system resources
