After many nights of being blinded by the light, we finally decided enough is enough. With this release, we have introduced darkmode! We want you to be able to log or read articles in the evenings without suffering from the bright whites of our normal colors. You can now take advantage of a darker theme in Painscale and give your eyes a rest.

We have listened to your feedback on how automatically pre-filling the pain log can be confusing. We have now made it optional! Additionally, in the food log, you can now log individual meals and choose the time of each meal. Finally, we've added the option to disable (not delete) all medication reminders in one spot. We hope these features make it easier to log pain and food going forward.

Coeur de Parisienne,
Exactly What I Needed & Been Searching For...
So I have to keep track of my cancer pain. It’s in my bones among other areas in my body. My pain management dr needs to understand the issues better than my brain dead answers the day I see her give. This app takes care of everything about the pain records I need to keep. It goes into great detail so that I may have the answers directly bob hand. During this pandemic, when my Drs appts are strictly done by video, this is perfect so that I can have the info right at my fingertips. It also helps when my wife needs to understand how bad it is for each day and understand when the breakthrough pain takes control and I need to seek emergency care. This is an amazing app. It should be shouted from the rooftops to help all suffering from any pain.
Ginny Beans,
Best Free Pain Tracker Out There
I’ve tried using other pain tracking apps (even paid for a few), none of them have been as detailed as this. It is easy to use and the data collection is excellent. I have a difficult time expressing the severity of my pain to my doctors. This app is a must if you have chronic pain, with or without a diagnosis. The suggestions for managing your type of pain is so helpful. I especially appreciate the reminders for tracking, I always forgot to keep my logs with other apps and then couldn’t be specific during my check ups. This allows my doctors to have insight on my conditions activity. Living in pain is difficult, but with this app you don’t have to feel alone. Thank you for this app it has changed my life.
RauchMindBodyTherapy,
Wonderful and very helpful
I work with chronic pain for myself and as an LPC who specializes in managing chronic pain. This app is fantastic!
I wish we could micro adjust body parts and add feelings but in all actuality l, this app has 99% of what I’d want to keep track of pain.
The statistics they provide are also very useful. I haven’t followed their mediations yet but look forward to that and their helpful tips.
If you have chronic pain, this app will help you track your triggers, moods, and treatments as well as what hurt when.
If you can track your pain you can be forgiving to yourself and even plan your life better!
LA in Philly,
Good so far. Thank you for helping
I only really started using it yesterday, but so far I think this app is good. It's definitely already better than the same ole same ole dummied down advice that all the know-it-alls try and shove in our faces. I'm definitely interested to continue using this. I have a team of doctors helping me with my post thorocotomy pain and they are all amazing. Any tool that could help me communicate with them more efficiently and precisely is valuable.
I also liked having the internet connections to other info. Sometimes it feels like chronic pain patients get ignored or lost in the whole war on opioids and this pervasive attitude can make it difficult or embarrassing to talk honestly with our doctors; again, this app helps patients communicate with their doctors and I appreciate that.
Before seeing some people on this app I rarely see advocates for patients like us. We are at home in pain; we are not physically capable of going on a big march or go to any war. We do need a voice though. When patients feel unheard in their own society that can lead to depression and then more pain, as you know. Thank you for trying to help us.
I will write more after I use the app longer and have better feedback.
Thank you,
Lauren
#InGoodFaith,
Adequate for needs (I guess)
Okay for noting symptoms, but anyone with chronic pain knows that pain typically fluctuates throughout the day – and with certain activities. Not only is this app a bit of a chore to use, it LACKS: the requisite specificity (e.g., targeted areas, different pain scales for different areas of the body, etc.); the ability for late entries (we can't always document pain when it is occurring – especially severe pain); the ability to customize symptoms.
Plus, the trends are inaccurate and the "streaks" seem inconsistent. I don't know whether the app is not recording my logs or there's some erroneous #SecretSauce to the analytics. Downloading my report (when I need it) has also been an issue.
It's OK to have the tips/articles in a separate tab; but they can be a bit of a nuisance when I'm trying (to get in and out) to log symptoms.

Leaf 3585,
Doesn't Fit for Long Term Chronic Pain
I've lived with chronic pain since I was 12. As I've gotten older it's gotten worse so I live at a 7/8 daily. That's WITH 500mg of Naproxen a day and supplements to ease increasing joint pain. If I'm at a 10, I'll try acetaminophen, a 2nd Naproxen and rest. Depending on the type of pain, I'll use ice, heat, or high-quality CBD. If those don't work, that's when I go to urgent care or the hospital. Even then I try not to go in because my FND is typically blamed and I'm sent home.

All of this to say that this is a great option for “new” or “younger” pain. Anyone I've ever talked to that has chronic pain laughs at the 1-10 pain scale. Hopefully it helps others but this is so frustrating to use because of that limited scale.
LovelyLyndaK,
Good, and two types of Body Mapping
I found if you click the three dots in the right corner, you have a more detailed body map. I’ve updated my review because I am happy with the body mapping.

It also would be nice if the side of the figure match my side of the body. Instead, my right is left on the figure.

Overall, I am excited to have a new pain journal app, since my old one was discontinued a few years ago, and quite frankly a lot more complicated than this one. But I feel I need the extra details, such as are shown in the preview.
Pellzer T.,
Maps too limited
I downloaded PainScale because I really liked how they have preset areas you can tap, plus a 1-10 scale with descriptions that correlate to colors on the body map, and also the different types of pain. This is such a great thing.

Unfortunately, I find the abdomen and lower back preset regions to be too limiting. I’m trying to track my endometriosis pains so I can more easily find when it is something else. For example, I didn’t realize I had a kidney stone because I thought my ureter pain was just a new ache. I know many women with endometriosis take awhile to spot apendicitis too.

It would be near perfect if there was an expanded abdomen chart.
Hollyb19,
PainScale is a great tool for pain logging
So far seems to be the best pain diary tracker that I have used, tried several, it has the most useful tools and insights, like the reports ability, I wish you could zoom in on the body and select certain parts of the body with more options especially in the back section.

I don’t like that when you create a report it lights the body that you have reported pain, it doesn’t show daily differences, wish it showed pain areas for each day.
travel.by.design,
Lost all my data
I’ve been using the app for just a few days in preparation for my doctors visit in a few weeks. I tracked a few journal entries, pain logs, food journals etc... everything seemed fine until today when I went in and recorded another pain log just to notice that all my past data has been lost. Even the log I recorded today is not there. I tried to reach out to customer support via the app but it kept telling me I haven’t set up an account (although I have...), leaving me with no other means to reach out to them. Seems like a promising app and interface is easy to use and navigate but not useful if data is lost in the process. Hopefully it’s an issue that will be fixed!
