We've been honing the overall experience of our quizzes lately. Since trial and error is a large part of our learning process, we wanted to make sure that inevitable failures are easier to recover from and that trying again is less frustrating. Please let us know how it feels!

-Answer choices for questions will no longer shuffle when reattempting. This should make it easier to succeed on subsequent tries!
-Multiselect and multiple choice question types will now grey out previously selected wrong answers, making them feel way less like a stab in the dark.
-Sequencing questions should be easier to solve and easier to understand how to get correct.
-Multiselect questions now have a small counter to let you know exactly how many correct answers there are to select.
-We've fixed an issue that made it difficult to share our questions with friends. Now you should be able to test them with ease.

Hello again Parsnip cooks!

Parsnip now has a streak system so you can keep track of how consistently you are keeping your skills honed... like a knife.
Videos have been given some love so now we can demonstrate more complicated concepts before and after answering questions.
There are even more places to leave your valuable feedback, including suggestions for which dishes you want to see next. Order up!
The scoring system has been adjusted and it should be easier to earn stars now. So shiny!
Sequencing questions have been reworked so they should be much clearer to understand and sort into the correct order.
We made a few visual tweaks that should make the app a little prettier.
There’s a bunch of fixes under the hood that should make for a much smoother experience.

Hey Parsnip fans. There’s some cool new features and fixes that we can’t wait for you to try out. Let us know what you think!
-We have changed the flow of questions in levels. Now when you get an answer wrong, it gets sent to the end of the level for you to try again later. This should make things feel even smoother and faster.
-If you want to challenge a friend’s knowledge, you can now share questions with them. They don’t even need to have Parsnip installed! Sharing is caring.
-Some people were having issues with multi-select style questions, and we have changed the way they behave to make them much less confusing.
-The sequencing style questions were hard to drag on some devices- but they should be working as intended now.
Matching style questions have been overhauled and should now feel much more responsive, as well as able to be matched in any order.
The new dish Chicken Piccata Fettuccine has entered the arena. Try it out!

We've simplified and streamlined the home screen, making it easier to jump straight into the action.
Now when you finish a dish, it should be much easier to go to your newly unlocked recipe- or just keep playing!
There should no longer be any interruption to audio from other apps. Yes, you can bop your head to your beats while you learn.
We've tweaked images again, making them load in even faster on slower internet connections.
There's a few exciting things we're working on right now that should make Parsnip even more fun and rewarding, so stay tuned and we'll let you know when they're ready!

sarahsicc,
Game changer for college freshman
This app has quickly become my favorite thing on my phone. I am a freshman in college, living in a dorm with a personal kitchen. And I can’t cook. My roommates can manage their own meals, but I had a meal plan this last semester. Over winter break I found Parsnip and it is a game changer. I really don’t know the slightest thing about cooking. I love how this app takes you step by step through shopping for ingredients to how to handle utensils and tools. I feel more confident in the kitchen than ever before. I’m looking forward to seeing more recipes added, I hope I can contribute some of my family’s favorites! I love that this app does not have any features you have to pay for. I don’t have time to balance my heavy school work and a job, so this app being free is going to continue to serve me for many months and hopefully years to come. Thank you for this great app, I cannot recommend it enough.
Asholi 7,
Makes me more excited about cooking!
For someone who’s been cooking for years, it’s really been helpful to know the terminology for everything that I’ve been doing. For me, I use the recipes as a baseline and I normally change things up to my liking. But if you are someone new to cooking I recommend following the instructions until you get the hang of things. It definitely got me more excited about cooking recently because of the game aspect. The streak is nice but I do mainly use it for additional recipe ideas and proper term usage. I do enjoy that you can pick recipes based on vegan, dairy free, vegetarian, quick, etc.
katmaas,
okay but not the best
my biggest issue with the app is the streak system: changing ur time zone at all entirely resets ur streak. the first time this happened I was upset but thought maybe I just did miss a day but it happened again a week later when I flew back home
secondly while the lessons r nice and cohesive they certainly don’t cover everything. sometimes the questions and possible answers given r misleading. i also wish there was a way to see the explanation for the wrong answers without actually having to get it wrong. i find the explanations helpful but if I want to see every different explanation i have to get the question wrong even if I know the answer. also, for questions where multiple options r correct, i would love for there to be an actual explanation to go with it
other than that this game is a rlly easy and nice way to pick up new cooking information that I do daily like duolingo
Native Code,
Terrible waste of time
This thing asks you to answer a bunch of mostly inane questions (why is a hamburger bun round?) that will not do anything but make a game out of trivia with the payoff being you “unlock” a recipe, as if that’s some reward. There is no learning material just the questions with cutesy answers. And these questions teach you nothing about cooking (true or false a tortilla is bread). This has all the hallmarks of an app built to sell an app rather than build an app that you believe is really useful. These types of apps sell you a lie that they can make difficult things easy, boring things fun, or laborious things fast. It’s mostly a lie. If you want to learn to cook look elsewhere. This dev uses sketchy marketing to promote the app, like making posts on Reddit as if they are an unrelated party asking if there is an app that teaches cooking and the full on promoting this app using a different account in answer to the question. Nothing but lies.

Great app
Let me start this off with this is the only app I’ve ever taken the time to review.

This app is fantastic, while I have always considered my self a decent cook I have learned quite a bit already. The app starts with you picking a what skill level you have and what types of food you might be interested in. The. The app walks you through how to pick the best ingredients with useful tips along the way. Next you learn the proper way to prepare the ingredients. And finally you go through useful tips on actually cooking the dish.

Novel approach to cooking apps
This app is different than other cooking apps. It’s organized around quizzes and when you do enough of them, you unlock a recipe, which the quizzes prepared you for. Quite simple and engaging, really. I found that I learned something new with every quiz. They put a lot of thought into making the questions humorous and informative.

The only drawback right now is that there are only 6 recipes in the app. That makes this really a 4.5 star review, but they’re new and promise to add more, so I’ll round up to 5 for now.

Nifty
Found this app through Reddit- the developer commented about looking for ways to advertise on social media, and linked the app. He described it as “duo lingo for food” and I would say that’s pretty accurate. I’ve only completed one lesson but I learned so much I didn’t know. They start with walking through how to buy the right ingredients and what to look for, and how to prep. Then after you go through all the steps you unlock the recipe!
Loving it so far, and surprised by how much I didn’t know.
Gwyn M.,
Super fun and informative
Each lesson is a series of quizzes with multiple choice questions. I started as someone who never cooks so it started me off with all of the basics; such as how to pick different produce and meats, how to safely prepare and cook chicken, how to store various herbs and produce and meats, and kept building on those skills. As you answer more questions you are building your way up to unlock a recipe, which is related to the questions that you answer. It’s super user friendly and informative.

Highly Recommend
I’m a college student and found this app on Reddit. I honestly love it so much. I don’t know the first thing about cooking, but there are a lot of good lessons/introductory facts that have helped me a lot in understanding why things are done the way they are in the kitchen. Also gives ideas for great recipes, a huge variety. I never write reviews for apps but I feel like this one deserves it. It’s just so cute and really helpful.
Toulios84,
I NEVER knew that!
Have been using the app in testing mode being one of the beta testers for a while now. I think what has stuck to me the most is all these little bits of knowledge, tips and tricks that I have been wondering my entire adulthood life about and never knew how to do. Seriously one of the more entertaining apps I’ve used in years- and I’m now more naturally drawn to cooking. Definitely helped with getting points in my marriage 😁
