Order lost in the ether - with no notification
UPDATED: the developer did end up giving me a courtesy credit, which I appreciated. And the photos arrived about 10 days after ordering; they’re good quality. I do wonder about some of the other recent reviews though - some sound pretty canned (the one app I can’t live without? During the pandemic, when you can’t get out of this country if you wanted to?). But in the end, issues resolved and sure better than trying to DIY or go to the drugstore for a photo.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I put through several orders using the app but never got any kind of confirmation, so I finally emailed to see what was up. Two days later I got an email saying that their PayPal system was down and that I should make sure I wasn’t charged. I wasn’t, but when I requested to pay using a credit card I was told I had to start from scratch. So it’s now a week later, no photos are on the way, and I have to hang up another white sheet to stand in front of to do this all over again. Fail. Major fail. The app team did NOT offer a comp (despite the fact that their email signature insists they will make it right). And as far as I can tell, it’s still possible to pay using PayPal, which means others’ orders are going into oblivion as well.
Joce_xo,
Don’t go to Walgreens or anywhere else!
I spent $15 at Walgreens to have my passport photo taken for me. The employee seemed really tired and fed up, so I was scared to ask to have my picture retaken. I looked awful and was really upset how it came out.

Passport photos are stuck with you for 10 years. Feeling really unhappy with the one that was taken for me at Walgreens (not to mention the ridiculous price), I downloaded this app and thought “there’s no harm in trying this out.” Due to poor lighting in my house, I took my own photo at school while standing in front of a plain white wall under the fluorescent lights in the hallway. Yes you read that right. I took the photo myself. It took a couple of tries to position my shoulders and extend my arm in a way to where it didn’t look obvious that I was taking a “selfie.” What’s great about this app is that the outline (where you keep your face in place) is completely accurate and the app saves two identical 2x2’s in a single frame just like the ones at Walgreens. I uploaded the photo onto the Walgreens app which costed less than a dollar to have them print it. I stapled that baby onto the passport application and prayed that they wouldn’t find a reason not to accept it. Luckily, they did!! This app works and I’m so glad it exists.
samanthagutie,
Good but...
This app is great because you can download all sizes for free, but there is no flash settings!!

Update: thank you for responding to my review. Ill keep it at 3 stars, 4 stars would’ve been if it had flash. I think it compares similarly to other apps. The pro of this app is that you can download all types of photos. The con is it’s still missing a lot of features. I don’t know why the flash feature had to be removed because ppl can just turn it off if it was causing shadows for them. I didn’t end up using the photo I got from this app, because of lighting issues (I was standing in front of a window with direct sunlight but the person photographing me was causing a shadow on my face that could have been improved using flash). They are similar because although I can get all photos in color here, I would still need to edit it to fix any lighting issues (in my case, my friend tried to photoshop for me). But I used a different app with flash photo, saved the 2x2 (the only one available for free), and placed it on a 4x6 myself. Flash helps create a more professional looking photo.
razeltg,
Don’t go to Walmart for printing!
This app is great! Very easy to use since if you don’t have someone to take it, it has a 3-second timer. Enough time for you to adjust your position after pressing the click button. Very well-thought app. I initially ordered my prints at CVS and paid a dollar and something for 5 4x6 prints (10 2x2 pictures). When I took my husband’s picture, I ordered the prints from a kiosk at Walmart while grocery shopping. Upon finalizing my order at the kiosk, it was telling me that 4 copies would be $1. But Lo and behold, the clerk manning the photo section told me to pay $29++ when I picked it up! She said that since it is a great passport photo, Walmart is charging it per picture and not per print. Crazy argument! Asked them to explain why since they did not take the picture but only printed MY PICTURE but they were not using their common sense at all. Walmart ended up shredding my pictures since I refuse to pay almost $30! DON’T GO TO WALMART!
PowerObject!,
ALMOST THERE...
Just need a way to import an existing photo, resize it, align it and email formatted copies in 2x2x6 layout. Here, we want to use existing photos as opposed to snapping new photos with the app.

2. Background color is coming as gray even when I use 4200 lumen studio lights and hence could not use the PP photos. Went to Walgreens to have PP photos take professionally but all they did is lower a white screen in an aisle and use a very tiny Canon camera (so tiny it can fit in a fist or shirt pocket). Later I saw the guy filling background color with white using their application before printing copies because even their photos came with a gray background. And they charged $16 for 2 photos! So this is an issue everyone has. So we need a Fill tool to mark and fill/paint the grayish background with white.

With the above two enhancements, this FREE app will be Golden !!
Youngsny,
Fast and easy passport photo
Update: I’ve used the app for several different things in the past so I wanted to update to my review. I originally used it for my passport photo which came out fantastic. It took a bit of effort getting the lighting right since I don’t have a good setup at home. Instead I took a pic in front of a white board at the office.

I’ve always hated going to the pharmacy to take photos bc if I want to retake the photo I get the look of death. And then if I want a second set of prints they somehow think it’s ok to charge another almost $14-15!

Anyway, I later used the app again for a visa for myself and a few friends I was traveling with. I also tried some other apps and those will charge you a fee just to have color photos emailed. This app does it for free.
gleanner,
Saved me 50$
Thank you for creating this app. I have never written an app review before but this app saved me! I had to expedite passports on all 5 people in my family which was $$$. I couldn’t stand spending 10 bucks a piece on pictures. I was really hesitant to try this because I know how picky they are. I figured I would submit them at the post office and they could let me know if there was going to be a problem. They took all of them! I printed them out at home too so no charge for that either.
You do have to look at the pictures on the passport website and make sure your pictures aren’t under or overexposed or have shadows. I found natural light was best and move away from the wall if you have shadows.
Perfect! Thanks!
Traveler from NYC,
One stop shop
I took my last passport photo at a ID photo shop and had a terrible experience - the photo looked awful and the employee didn’t care. After that bad experience I took the photo myself and then printed it a Duane reader and has to pay a whopping $11 even though I took the pic myself. This time around I checked the App Store and tried a couple different apps. The first one I tried wanted to charge me a fee just to take a color photo. I deleted that one right away then tried this one. Guess what - no fee to take the photo. Then I printed it myself and it came out awesome (after a few a retakes to get everything looking right). I highly recommend Passport Booth and will definitely use it next time.
raspy10,
It works - just need to take multiple pics
I first used this for making an emergency passport when my grandfather died - printed the pictures hang Target 1 hr photo and printed several to only spend less than $1 on the photos. The embassy accepted my pictures with no questions - although I did take several just in case.

Given that positive experience, I also used this app to take pictures of my husband and 4 year old son for their passport - and it worked too! It was great that I was able to take as many pictures as I wanted before I chose the right one because my son is very squirmy and never stands still for anything. So this app was a total lifesaver. We now have our passports and are ready to travel :)
Josh_Jboi,
You can’t beat this app. It’s the best.
What can I say? I used this app when I wanted to apply for my passport because I didn’t want to pay the ridiculous prices charged by the pharmacy outlets. Was willing to pay the post office price but you have to book an appointment. Time was not my friend. I simply used a bedsheet held by two people and I took a selfie. Tried several times to get it right tho. I then went to go print at Walgreens and the attendant told me everything to discourage me. She literally wanted me to take another photo and pay the ridiculous price. I stood my ground and hoped for the best. Wala! It was accepted! Less than $1 for 4 2x2 compared to like $25. Thank you for developing this app and for making it easily accessible.
