Description
An all year round outdoor attraction at Patchings Art Centre in the heart of Nottinghamshire
countryside. For all ages, particularly for those who share an interest and enjoyment in art.
The Patchings Artists’ Trail is a magical experience along a walk through time with famous
artists to help you discover the story of art.
Entrance and parking to Patchings and the Artists’ Trail is free. The FREE App , which is
downloadable and available at Patchings brings to life the story of art as you meet and hear
from five life size famous artists from history. They will introduce you to their place in
history and invite you to share some of their experiences along the way. Meet them in their
studio and see more of their well known paintings.
The famous five are the local man, Richard Parkes Bonington, born just around the corner
from Patchings. You will meet the Dutch artist and portrait painter Rembrandt. No line up
would be complete without Turner and then Monet and finally another Dutch artist, Vincent
van Gogh. All will be there to greet you and welcome you to Patchings.
Along the trail is a fascinating exhibition contained within glass. 60 pieces of work help tell
the story of art, creating a unique gallery in the outdoors with nature adding an extra
dimension to the viewing experience. With no doors, windows or walls to this gallery the
viewing is magical, as a sound track accompanies what you see.
The App has a feature to allow you to convert your own photograph as though painted in
the style of a well known artist, which can be saved to use later. There are many other
interactive opportunities including touch screens to help with the history of art, an Art Trail
Guide allows visitors of all ages to engage fully with the experience. Draw your very own self
portrait and discover landscape drawing through a specially installed camera obscura.
Through the App visitors can use augmented reality to hunt for pieces of a jigsaw. Once
found the pieces can be re-arranged to make the picture complete.
The Patchings Artists’ Trail is a different way of discovering art with an emphasis on enjoying
and taking part.
