PLEASE FIX THE ZOOM-OUT!!!
I use this app EVERYDAY for work. This is a GREAT app... BUT when your typing in a text box, the more you type the more it zooms out. This makes it very hard to edit when you can't read the text, and I have very good vision.

Landscape would also be an awesome addition. I bought a stylus to use with this app but it's too hard to write in portrait so I just click on the keyboard. Also, there needs to be a blind to pull up from the bottom so you don't select the buttons when your hands resting on the phone.

Everything else seems to work great, with a couple little buggy exceptions like when I open the app from the lock screen the screen goes back to black then I click the home button again and the screen comes back and the app closes and I have to re open it again. Not a huge problem though, it only happens occasionally and probably has to do with iPhone OS. And sometimes when opening the app it will goto a new untitled book and when you click back to books it disappears.

I have had this app for a few months now and it's awesome to have ALL your notes in one app. No need to carry a pad of paper and a pen anymore! Thanks for working hard to make this app so great, it's came a long way!

Lovely
Love the app, worth the money!

Great Sketchnoting App for the IPAD...
Wonderful app for sketchnoting. Dropbox support, a selection tool that lets you select ANYTHING and resize, move, cut and paste as well as intuitive controls for pen size and color adjustment is wonderful. This app also has one of the smoothest handwriting gesturing, much like penultimate however beats it with the multitude of other features including almost an incredible pinch and zoom as well as the ability to import pics into your sketchnotes. I feel as though some the low ratings by a few others are not warranted. This is a great app and with the responsiveness I have seen thus far from the developers, I am sure will be one the best in this field. Having said that, on my wishlist for this app will be: 1. improvements in the use of the palm with this app, 2. the ability to create a pens w predefined colors and sizes and 3. the ability to have gesture enabled zoom modes for a) Fit page to window and b) last zoom mode. This is a feature I really like in the brushes app. To wrap up...my recommendation: this is a keeper.
Live and Grow,
A lot to like here!
I like this app because it strikes a balance between the apps designed for quick note taking and the ones designed for complicated work.

Many of the apps designed for quick work have some limitation -- notes cannot exceed one page, there is no zoom feature, the notes cannot be stored in collections, etc.

Many of the apps designed for more detailed work have so many features, or features so complex or requiring so much set up, that you might not be inclined to grab one of them just to make a simple note on the fly.

Pen and Paper has just enough features for both simpler and more complicated work. With it, you can use your handwriting, type, insert, pan and zoom, import, share, and store.

There is no "zoom box" at the bottom of the page, but the pan and zoom feature is very good and includes an autoscrolling capability, so, your handwriting can be clear and readable (even on the iPhone). Because the app can be set for autoscrolling, the pages don't pick up stray marks from your fingers when the pages moves along as you write.

Typed notes can be centered or either left or right aligned, and inserted shapes can easily be made into text boxes.

The app works on both the iPad and the iPhone, and you can sync data between devices via the cloud. Cloud sharing can be selective, which means that you can keep more private documents off the cloud at the same time that you can share other ones.

Best all in one sketch/journal/photos app
Had this app on my phone for quite a while thinking it was mainly a sketch app. After looking for a dream journal app, and not finding any that worked well and would allow you to mix text, scalable photos, objects and sketch all in one. I tried this app and wow, it is GREAT for that.

So I had this dream about a beluga whale jumping out of the water into my arms and the two of us walking around a seaside town with him asking to go into a shop or hang out in a park. Within this app using its text feature I wrote down the dream. Then I went on the Internet and found some photos of beluga whales that I saved to camera roll and added them into this journal entry. I then sketched a stick figure holding a little whale. The whole funky looking journal entry is able to be emailed as a PDF plus it supports exports to Dropbox, iCloud and more. It rocks!
Basmorton,
This is the one
This app has got the note pad idea figured out. The re-size tool is a great feature. You can write big, draw a re-size box around it, make it smaller without losing clarity, and put it anywhere you want it. FAST. Great for handwriting lists. Zoom in and out easily. I have tried dozens of note pad apps and I think this one has the best combination of features.

Could use more paper designs, a preset highlighter (though you can define a highlighter) and the ability to cut and paste to different pages and books. Has a few bugs in the app particularly in the "books" screen. A few times I have had to close the app and restart it to get my list of books back up. I have never lost any work though. I am still willing to give it 5 stars. Fix the bugs, add some of the features I suggested and i would give it SIX stars if I could.
BnB Tech,
Latest version is excellent, now if....
I have always liked Pen and Paper, but the most recent upgrade is a big step forward. I will now be deleting the other apps that I had previously been tracking to see who got better fastest. Now just a few more features that I will beg for:
1) Can we run the eraser on photos rather than just white-ing them out with the pen set to background color?
2) Can we crop photos?
3) Can we insert photos straight from camera (great for taking notes from a white board presentation.
4) This is the feature that I would pay $$$ for: setup a text typing entry that when you fill up a page it automatically wraps to the next page. This would allow us to type continuous notes. Even better if you allow customizing the margins on the text block in order to leave wide margins for drawn notes!
5) Point editing feature for lines and shapes to create splines and various irregular polygons.
6) Export a vector version into an MS Office format like word or PowerPoint (or any of the various lookalikes now avail)

Do these things and half the college kids in the country will be buying pen and paper to take notes in class.
ACrawl2,
Nicely Done
Surprisingly, I'm impressed. I never thought I'd find another great pen notebook aside from Penultimate (all the others are so laggy). I decided to give this one a try anyway. The smoothness in writing just blew me away. Using a stylus feels accurate and really smooth with this app, also. The zoom feature was what I missed with other like apps. The paper size options here is brilliant, add text... Pen and Paper just works, you won't be sorry. The only thing I'd like to see is the option to export individual pages or the entire notebook, right now it seems to be the whole notebook. Excellent work to the developer(s). I hope this app stays light weight and smooth. It's the best and deserved a review.
cunningjames,
Not so great, but not so bad
I wrote a rather poor review of this app a while ago, but after a few updates it's much better. Unfortunately I still don't think it has much of a place on the iPad—Penultimate has better handwriting; Upad and Notes Plus provide significantly more features.

Where this app could distinguish itself is on the iPhone, where there is bafflingly little in the way of serious note taking apps. But it's missing the crucial feature of (some form of) automatic scrolling, without which the iPhone's small screen makes handwriting so difficult as to be a useless thing to try.

The latest update appears to have added automatic scrolling to the iPad app but not to its iPhone counterpart. Seems like an odd prioritization given that the iPad hardly needs it.
Every name is taken already,
Not shabby
If I could give it 4.5 I would. Not exactly sure why I wouldn't give it 5 starts. It is a very helpful app. Sometimes I think it may be a bit klunky...but I feel these small situations I run into are apple issues and not the app.

When making A title for the document to save it under (a useful feature) it puts underscores instead of spaces. Again something most likely apple. For what you pay it is packed full. I would love an app that would recognize and a form and default to a fill in.

I use this mostly for getting PDFs and then filling them in. It is very useful in that sense. Seriously you get. Great amount for the small fee you pay. Get it and get the full version.
