Description
Traffic congestion at the end of a school day is a reality in many schools. It is caused by the large influx of cars at the same time and by the time spent in the school vicinity. When parents need to wait for their children, they tend to occupy available public space in a disorderly and abusive manner, thus conditioning traffic circulation and the safety of all.
The Pick up & Ride app was developed to make “meeting up” between parents and children quicker and more organized. The app allows to schedule meetings, defining time and place, and informs the persons involved as to the location, estimated time of trip and any possible delay or readjustment of the scheduled meeting.
The app has two functionalities:
Pick up & Ride Guardian – School: For Guardians fetching small children or that do not have a mobile phone, from school. Communication takes place between the Guardian and the school employee at the school gate. In this case, the employee receives information on the Guardian’s arrival and gets the child ready to be sent safely and quickly to the car.
Pick up & Ride Guardian – Student: For Guardians fetching older and more autonomous children from school. Communication takes place directly between the Guardian and the Child, and the app serves to streamline the meeting according to the indications of the scheduled occurrence.
Guardian is the name given to the person that fetches the Child (young or older) from school. In the case of the Pick up & Ride Guardian – School functionality, the Guardian is the person to whom the school is authorized to hand over the child: may be a parent, grandparent, or other authorized person.
The Pick up & Ride app was developed under the Civitas DESTINATIONS project, financed by the Horizon 2020 European Programme.
