Description

The PIEL Survey App is designed to gather survey data from people in their daily lives. Surveys are imported from a Control file which is a text file provided by the researcher. For details on how to create and distribute a new survey, please see our website.

This app is ideal for "in the moment" data gathering, also known as Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) or Experience Sampling Management (ESM). This allows a more complete understanding of a participant's thoughts and feelings than traditional survey methods.

Key features:
- Currently there are 4 question types; list, checkbox, slider and free text.
- Questions can also be made to branch to different questions.
- Schedules can be fixed, random or semi-random.
- The surveys will run even when an internet connection is not present.
- Users can swipe between questions.
- No internet connection is required during the running of a survey.

This version adds a new contingent survey feature. This feature allows participants to initiate one or more surveys manually even while a survey schedule is running. These user initiated surveys will be shown on the placeholder screen. This featue can only be enabled by the researcher who creates a text control file using a standard text editor outside of the app. The researcher then sends the text file to users by email for import into the app. Users can choose to import the file and run the survey as instructed by the researcher.

In this version there have been some user experience improvements.
- When there is only one survey, it will be automatically selected. For a new user, this means they can immediately tap the start button to see the "Welcome" survey run.
- The "Welcome" survey will be restored if a user deletes it then reopens the app when there are no other surveys present.
- In the "Welcome" survey more emphasis is placed on the ability to swipe between questions.
- A minor bug fix when swiping is used with a right to left language such as Arabic.
