This is a neat and whimsical app, the latter mainly due to the nice artsy sketches that are included, complete with moving clouds in the background. It also generates a scroll of pirate info at the top if you like snippets of pirate lore along with your generated ship name result. There are three “generator icons”, two to generate random results (not sure why there’s 2 of these), and one to go back to a previous result, that one being the arrow pointing left. Then there’s a “settings icon” of sorts where it gives a few credits, options, and even tells you how many of the pirate ship names you have viewed so far out of the 970k possibilities you could get.
While the generator only gives one result at a time, the names themselves are good. I’ve gotten results such as “The Lush Angel” and “The Cavernous Sea Horse”, to name a couple. I also think this app could technically be useful for not just pirate ships, but also other similar nautical vessels, ie: privateers, buccaneers, and corsairs. Perhaps even the traditional merchant and/or navy vessel as well. Airships might be yet another possibility.
While there are tiny advert strips at the bottom, they do not cover the entire page so no annoyances there. If there are any that do, they are not that frequent to cause an issue for me. Plus it’s free. :)
Overall, a great app that does exactly what it promises and is simple enough to use. Five stars.
