Pixen is a professional pixel art editor designed for working with low-resolution raster art, such as those 8-bit sprites found in old-school video games. With features including a unique color palette system, layers, and high-zoom support, Pixen packs all the tools pixel artists need in an intuitive, iPad-native interface. Pixen also makes creating frame-by-frame animations fun and easy.
Animations - Create and arrange image frames in the filmstrip view to piece together animations. Pixen can import animated PNGs, animated GIFs, and sprite sheets. It can export animations as animated GIFs, animated PNGs, movies, image sequences, and sprite sheets!
Tools – Leverage Pixen's wide array of tools when composing pixel art: Pencil, Eraser, Brightness, Text, Eyedropper, Zoom, Rectangular Selection, Magic Wand, Lasso, Move, Fill, Line, Rectangle, and Ellipse.
Apple Pencil Support - All of Pixen's tools are fully compatible with Apple Pencil on iPad. You can take advantage of the double-tap gesture on Apple Pencil 2 to quickly switch to your last tool, switch to the eraser, or bring up the color picker. Pixen even supports Apple Pencil hover effects.
Layers – Take advantage of the flexibility layers provide when working with complex pixel art. Change opacities, blend modes, and more to compose creative effects.
Color Palettes – With Pixen, you can add and organize commonly-used colors into palettes. Pixen can also import and export color palettes in the Adobe Color Table, Microsoft Palette, JASC Palette, and GIMP Palette formats. Amazing for a new artist, deserves your attention
I just recently got into pixel art. As a software developer I’ve always wanted to make games but felt lost when it came to creating assets. Pixen takes that fear away. It provides a great workflow when switching between the mobile and desktop versions, and all of the tools you need are just right there. I really hope the developer continues to support this app by adding new features.

Finally, the perfect Pixel Art Editor for professional use!
This is the pixel art editor I've been searching for! It has all the features you'd expect from a desktop pixel art editor with a perfect interface and responsive controls. Works perfectly with the Apple Pencil, unlike other editors available for iOS. My only compliant is that I wish there was an option to make the buttons a bit bigger, as well as having the undo button closer to the left side of the screen for easy access with my left hand.
A couple features I wish for, are a way to keep the animation preview screen up while working on frames.
A way to choose the background color instead of the default white(for testing the colors of sprites)
And a spill bucket eraser.
Other than that this is by far the best and perfect pixel art editor for iOS, well worth the money for any professional or serious pixel artist.

Artwork doesn’t save the latest edit, overwritten by previous edit that was lost by crash.

Pixen is the best app for pixel art and animation on OS X and I use it regularly for all my pixel art needs, but all it does is crash when I try and open it on my ipad Pro. What gives?!

Just bought both this and the Mac app and the iPad app just crashes on my iPad Pro.
Would love to try all this out since I just spent $20 to buy them both but the iPad app is a flop.

Useless if you can’t save!
Spent a considerable amount of time working on something and then when I went to export discovered that the app crashes EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Highly disappointing. Wasted $5 and several hours.
