okummthz,
Pokémon Go is great but a couple things
First of all I want to address the bad reviews left by people who hate the overpricing of remote raid passes and them skipping Galar. Them skipping Galar was for hype, and for more downloads, which I can see where they’re coming from, and they might be developing gigantimaxing, who knows? The remote raid changes were necessary for their game as it was becoming too much of a thing for players to do at home instead of going out and exploring WHICH IS THE POINT OF THE GAME. And if niantic decides to limit their most money making source, then they know what they’re doing.

I’ve been playing on/off since 2016, and in the past 2 years I’ve really gotten back into it! The game is great, awesome events, community days, my area has a pretty great and active community! Awesome shinies and they release Pokémon and shiny Pokémon every couple weeks, overall pretty good variety! There is a few glitches though, like some people have lost master balls, and that’s a pretty hard thing for them to experience! And there’s so many go battle league bugs don’t get me started on that I stopped playing a long time ago, but no draws just wins and losses and so many stupid bugs, random losses and invisible Pokémon, not to mention the lag. Not perfect: 🌟4/5🌟

Shorter Version: Don’t get mad at Niantic for their decisions, even if you don’t like them you will get used to it. Great game but many bugs that need to be fixed and addressed. 🌟4/5🌟
aenella,
Mostly good game
I would say overall that the game is fun. However there are some ways tbat I feel would make the game much better. For example when you catch pokemon, I feel like the rare candies should be able to be used on any pokemon like in the original game and not just when you win blank ones. I also feel like some of the challenges are completely crap. For example you get zero credit for the masterball challenge if you lose the raid or the battle. You can literally spend hours and days trying but get zero credit and fail the challenge regardless of the work you put in if you lose. That really is not fair at all to the users. Stardust should be in the shop for purchase and the absolute worst part of the game is when you trade a Pokémon and its stats change. In the original game this does not happen. You can send a 3 star pokemon to your friend and suddenly it become a 1 or even a 0 star. It takes all the fun of trading away when you spend months trying to find 3 stars and then the stats are tossed around if you try to share it. When you win a raid, you also should automatically get the pokemon. It shouldn’t be allowed to run away. If they would fix these issues I would happily change my rating but until then I will have to say that the issues I mention make it hard to want to play sometimes.
Zeusgob,
Niantic Is predatory
Truly Pokémon GO has been my #1 hoppy since early 2019. I came back to the game after launch, like many people did with the inclusion of raids and PVP making a full fledged game. Since that time Niantic has become more and more predatory with every “season” jacking up the prices of boxes and now the unforgivable sin of DOUBLING remote repaid passes and setting a restriction on the amount used per day. Never mind that there’s entire backlogs of bugs that have never been addressed and with each update new ones are introduced. Niantics vision is wrong and misguided, I understand the idea of community and bonding over a shared experience but as of late, that shared community experience has only been grief and frustration at the management in place completely knee capping the experience for rural players, players with disabilities and honestly fans of the game//paying customers. I love this game so much and it kills me to be uninstalling it due to these practices.

I’m a Pokémon fan and have been almost all 26 years of my life, truly I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on this game but I can’t keep going on like this just for my love of the franchise while these predatory tactics are so blatant. Believe me it makes me sad to make such a poor review of the game but their mis-management and neglect to critical parts of the game in favor of just making more money has become unbearable.
the real jacob cohen,
Overall, the game is amazing sometimes
I’ve been playing the game since late September 2018 and in 2023 the game has gotten a little better but there’s some things to be fixed like the constant freezes when you tap on a Pokémon or try to spin a PokéStop it needs to be fixed there should also be one free remote raid pass when spinning a gym instead of them being so more expensive. Also another major problem. Is when you’re in a car and the you’re going to fast thing pops up and you keep having to click I’m a passenger, It doesn’t pop up twice, But multiple times To where the point it gets really annoying and could potentially mess up your game. Sometimes I have seen where when you put an egg in an incubator and then after walking for a while it glitches it then doesn’t put in your walking distance in so then you have to do it again sometimes it’s really annoying. And also, my brother has been complaining about many other issues and how the game isn’t that good. I think he’s right. The one thing to really fix it is if for 2024 the game should have a major makeover along with many fixes and bugs and make the game more interactive. This major update should last at least until mid 2027 to have mid-cycle refreshing. So make it futuristic too. I love the game to play Sometimes, but just needs a huge makeover. please make this happen. I will play this game until the end of the Pokémon franchise even if it’s bad.
crazygirl123887,
Amazing
This app is an amazing app! It is an amazing way to kill time and a great app to get your exercise in! There are a couple things that I think could be better. I feel there should be a chat space! So you can talk to the people you are friends with to meet up and do raids or battle together. Instead of having to download an app which even then you need to at least know there phone number. I feel you should be able to get more than 50 coins a day. Or at least be able to get a bonus for every continuous day your Pokémon is at a gym. Saying that I know that the prices to buy stuff is set to match the amount of coins able to be received each day. So if needed I feel it would be ok to up the price on coins a little. For trading.... I feel you should be able to choose what your friend gets. Or at least be able to put something in there for them besides a sticker. This also adds onto the fact that we need a chat system between friends to be able to tell what each other needs and or is receiving. I know you have the notifications for what your friend has received but it would still be nice to be able to say “oh thanks for the poke balls dude” or something along the lines of that. Overall this game is amazing! And I get on it several times a day. But I am sure other people have been saying things along the lines of what I have said! I mean none of this is no rude way but I do feel that these things should either be changed or added into the game!
…—-….,
Raids in general
I love this game, but I’ve been experiencing a lot of lag with the raid passes. For example, there have been multiple time where I spent a way-too-much amount of coins on a remote raid that didn’t even enter my inventory. And that’s not it. On the off chance that I get to use that raid pass, as soon as the raid starts, I get kicked out if I’m not within range, even if I’m using a REMOTE raid pass. I would like to get a refund on the passes that I have lost. Also, please make it easier for us free-to-play gamers that don’t feel like spending $5 to get poke coins. Maybe you can get them by completing research or winning in the GO battle league. If you guys don’t want to make it easier, at least make the raid passes cheaper. Or delete the maximum amount of Pokémon that can be in a gym. Or do SOMETHING to make it easier to get pokecoins for the kids who are broke playing this game. I’ve been saving for at least 3 months only to have 300 or so coins, and the. When I buy something I don’t get to use it. Also, for me, I get no research tasks that give me incubators. I NEED MORE. How am I supposed to hatch eggs? “You can buy incubators blah blah blah. Yeah, I know. For ONE HUNDRED to TWO HUNDRED coins. I feel like I’m more recent years Niantic has gotten more greedy and making things more expensive so that people have to spend money to buy coins. Here is my account info so that you can please maybe refund me for the countless coins I have lost randomly.
ThAtS nOt A wOrD,
This game has come very far
I’ve been playing this game since week 1. There was a month of 2 when I had it deleted because I wasn’t playing it, but when gen 3 was added I came right back. I’ve spent a good hundred dollars on this game, and I really only have 1 complaint in the dinosaur of video game perfection. I just wish Mega Evolution was better. Anyway, the way they have adapted into making play from hone easier is really nice, so people don’t risk getting sick. If you look back at the beginning of the game, you can really tell it’s growth. Research, buddies, friends, trainer battles, Team Rocket, shinies, and even legendaries weren’t even in the game at launch, and now we (almost) have 5 ENTIRE GENERATIONS with a read of gen 6. Research has been a really fun time killer when I’m bored, and the fact that Pokémon constantly spawn make it even nicer and a continuous adventure. Looking back, I feel so dumb taking a break from the game, even if it was only for 2 months. Anyone could get a blast out of it, and it’s a great way to drop a couple of pounds even if you’re only going out once a day! A lot of people got it at the start and quit a few weeks/months. If your one of those people, definitely check this game out again! This game has come so far, and I can’t wait to see how much it grows in the future!
ghost Story Girl22,
Fun Yet Incredibly Inaccessible
I have played on and off since its release. I love Pokemon, and I love playing this with family and friends. However, it's very inaccessible. I am legally blind, so while I have some vision, I can see very little, and heavily rely on my iPhone's zoom feature. But Pokemon GO doesn't work well with the zoom feature. Basically, if I zoom in to see something, buttons end up pressing, menus get closed, etc. So I can't accurately select Pokemon for a battle, or transfer specific Pokemon, or even adjust my settings. And VoiceOver (which reads text out loud to me) doesn't work either. If I activate it and try to select something for it to read, it's treated like a regular tap. So if I, for example, tap on the name of a Pokemon, instead of VoiceOver reading it, the Pokemon info is actually opened.

So while I still enjoy Pokemon GO, I can't get anywhere near as into it as family and friends. I have to select random Pokemon for battles, rely on friends to choose what I'll trade and hope I'm not getting totally cheated, and basically go down the row and transfer Pokemon rather than strategically transferring only certain ones. And I end up totally lost in many of the discussions with family and friends because they're discussing aspects of the game that are inaccessible. I would play it a whole lot more, and would actually recommend it to friends (I don't right now) if it was more accessible.
TheKrystalRose,
Frequent Issues and P2P Pressures
I’ve been playing this for years, and there have been consistent issues with things like the probability of catching a Pokémon frequently not actually improving with the use of berries or excellent cure balls. In fact, it’s more frequent to catch a Pokémon when NOT having an excellent, which is not how it’s advertised. There has been a growing push to get folks to pay to play (P2P), and some of the events, including the most recent PoGo Fest, really haven’t been worth what they’re charging. For $15, I expected way better than a quest line and rewards comparable to the $3 community day events. More transparency on what you get for your money would be fantastic, especially with the quests that offer different rewards for different paths.

Overall, the game is fun to play, as long as you’re able to travel to spots where other people are playing and where there are gyms and pokestops. Allowing remote raids has given some opportunity for expanded gameplay, but remote raid passes frequently turn into another thing you need to P2P for. And, well, the ongoing refusal to remove the ban on being able to spin stops while moving (like we used to be able to do while riding the bus) is perpetually disappointing. I plan to continue playing, but it would be nice to see some of the long-standing issues fixed, and to stop feeling like every other weekend is a new money grab.
man_ly,
Rural efficacy
Living so far out of town doesn’t help with the game compatibility, needing to be in those locations, and crushes my love for the play. I can understand the point is to be interactive virtually in the physical spectrum, but as one of countless people who don’t live in the big cities, or in the city at all, the need for a travel less game is more acceptable. As for the game in of itself, the coin prices for items is also high considering gym activity is limited to needing to get near one. That leads to people feeling less involved and tired of playing due to spending real cash on game coins, which could also be solved by changing regulations on the coins themselves. A max cap of fifty coins daily is too low considering the prices for items is almost double or triple. If the cap was per Pokémon, then maybe players could have a chance at surviving the need to ration coins. Leading to another infuriation, the need for incubators, since only one infinite is given to the players it would seem more likely there could be a max of three given at different levels reached. Not being able to hatch the eggs leads to breaking down to save coins for incubators or struggling to reach the walking parameters enough with whatever eggs they can hatch at that time. All in all, the game-play has been smooth but frustrating, considering the possible improvements it has a long way to go before it is truly a masterpiece.
