# New Features

- Widgets are here!
Check all recently released/upcoming movies form your Watchlist, at a glance.

- Notifications
You can now choose to be reminded about an upcoming movie release in your Watchlist and, whenever a checkin ends, to recommend the movie right from the notification!

- A whole new History
By default, only the first 25 items are loaded and displayed (you can change it up to a 100 items in Settings > General > Pagination Limit).
In addition, a search will now match results from your Watched History to avoid loading hundreds of pages only to display the same item multiples times.
Finally, you will now be able to travel back in time with the new calendar button.

- Discover
Introducing a brand new way to find and discover new content, with many options to refine your selection. It features a whole page full of results, a huge filter list and some presets to help you get started and understand how the feature works.
If you have any feedback about this feature, please let me know so I can improve it over time and make it more user-friendly.

- From your History
This new section in a person’s summary gives you a quick insight about your watched movies from their filmography.


# Improvements & Bug Fixes

- The internal rework of Context Menus gives you even more options than ever before.
For each item watched more than once in you History, you’ll get an additional option to view all plays.
There's also a brand new Context Menu for people when long pressing them and a new Pull-Down menu from their profiles.
From now on, your ratings can also be edited using the new option inside Context/Pull-Down menus.

- The whole networking layer was rewritten from the ground up to use Swift Concurrency’s latest features!
From a developer‘s perspective, it will provide a strengthened and more robust interface for all API related interactions but from your perspective, it leads to a better in-app experience and faster data loading.

- Most dates are now relative to their context and use a more explicit and comprehensive format.

- More content was added in Browse > Movies with a list of all upcoming movies in theaters matching your selected region.

- Movies summaries get even more info when available: new movie stats, production companies, accurate release dates matching your region, original release date - if different - and metadata from your Collection (thanks to @meniK for the idea).

- New sections added in Browse, improved Now Playing section (Browse > Movies) with pagination and “See All” option.

- A quick access to your profile was added in Browse and removed from History and Collection.

- Additional localization options required the language selection in Settings to move to General > Language.
From there, you will now be able to select your language, region and watch region.
The last one will be used for the new Discover feature to let you select watch providers matching this option.
Additionally, all settings related to language and region are now searchable for an easier modification.

- Many issues were fixed, including the following ones: localization format issues (e.g. vote count, vote average, …), Context/Pull-Down menus not displaying the correct options, decoding issues with some people’s summaries, empty searches not resetting results to their default, “more” button appearing when text was less than 3 lines in both movies/people’s summaries.

- Your profile now displays your current list limits according to your Trakt membership: VIP/existing user/new user.

Here's a patch version including bug fixes and some nice improvements:

- Fixed an issue causing a termination of the app while trying to refresh the Browse page's content.
- Fixed an issue preventing the Part Of section to appear when visiting a movie's summary for the first time (given the movie belongs to some collection)

# Introducing Liked Lists

Manage all your already liked lists from the app and discover all Trending and Popular ones under Browse > Lists.

You can also like/unlike any List using the swipe action (available on the Sidebar or Lists tab) or the new Context Menu’s action.*


# Improved Browsing Experience

Get ready to meet a whole new Browse page featuring 2 new navigation options (Movies and Lists), a new For You section - showing all your movie recommendations -, Top Rated movies and the weekend Box Office.

When selecting Movies, Lifetime or Premium users will now be able to expand their discovery with Genres by scrolling down to the bottom of the Movies page and selecting any genre to discover movies matching the selection.*

As mentioned above, you can now browse Trending and Popular Lists by selecting Lists from the Browse tab.

The new inline pagination makes it easier to keep loading items while scrolling horizontally. You can still tap See All to switch to a vertical scrolling behavior and enjoy the same automatic pagination.*


# Richer Info

Movie details now features a variety of new information such as being part of a Collection with other movies, full distribution and image gallery.*

Person details now features a “Known For” section highlighting the person’s most popular movies.


# Extended Search

The brand new search options allows you to include movie collections as well as people for any search (more options will come in a later release)*. You can also choose not to include movies in your search when at least one of the other options is on.

The search now relies on TMDb to be able to bring your more content (now and in the future) and previous options were removed as not all were available with the TMDb API. They will make their way back with major improvements in a later release as well.


# Richer & Shared Settings

Added About section under Settings > General to highlight versioning info as well as providing What’s New/Privacy Policy options.

Added lots of customization options under Settings > General (number of posters, pagination limit, spoilers, …).

Added appearance options under Settings > Appearance to choose between using the system’s appearance (default) or to always use light/dark mode.

Added iCloud sync option under Settings > iCloud to enable sharing settings, sort options and time periods across all your devices using the same iCloud account (this option is opt-in only and must be enabled on all your devices in order to work).*


# Redesign/Improvements

- History now features a new Recently Watched sorting option as well as the ability to choose between displaying only the last play or all plays (which is the default).*
- Movie Summary now shows a Context Menu instead of the previous Share Sheet.
- Many SF Symbols were swapped from outlined to filled when used in Buttons or the Tab Bar to bring more consistency to the app’s UI.
- The SF Symbol previously used for your Recommendations is now the one for your Liked Lists and a new heart with a bolt represents your Recommendations.
- Various components will now benefit some new iOS 15's design and options. Some sheets will, when appropriate, cover only half the screen and Context Menus’ submenus will now show you an inline chevron, highlighting actions requiring more interaction.
- Also, some Context Menus’ actions might display a subtitle to bring more context and/or info.
- The double tap action has been extended to the Sidebar (iPad-only) and allows you to quickly search your Lists, History or Collection as well as search anything from the Browse view.
- You can now long press your current Checkin within your profile to bring the new Cancel Checkin action.*

It's been around 7 months since the latest update and let me tell you : I've been hard at work!
This new version is packed with lots of new features, improvements, system integrations and so much more!

• iPad support
The app is now ready to run on bigger screens… and it looks amazing!

• Redesigned Movie Summary
The view has been redesigned from the ground up and now features even more info about your movies including the new sections trailers, about, ratings and information sections.

• Movie rating
You can now rate your favorite movies with PopcornMovies.

• New share sheet style actions
The main actions you can perform have been improved and you can now choose to organize them as.you.like!

• SF Symbols and Accent color
The app features a brand new accent color and all previously used icons have been replaced with SF Symbols.

• Dynamic Type
Thanks to Dynamic Type, all the app will now follow your preferred text size and adapt accordingly to be more accessible than before.

• Movie sharing
You can now share this movie you like so much to anyone and if they have the app already installed, it'll open its summary right away!

• All actions requiring date informations now benefit a brand new view to quickly select the date and time.

• You were annoyed by the crashes happening repeatedly on your lists? Well, I was too… That's why I got rid of them! Enjoy browsing your Watchlist, History and Collection without any crash!

In May, the first version of Popcorn Movies was released. Since then… nothing much happened…

Well, for me, a lot has happened though :

• First, you were more than 8,000 people to download the app (and for this, I love you 3,000!!).

• Second, I have made a complete rewrite of some core parts of Popcorn Movies, not only to make it easier for me to maintain in the future but also to provide a lot more stability and speed through the app for you (and honestly, this has taken me some time…).

• Third, iOS 13 was released and as you might have seen it on Twitter, I was not ready to launch yet.


Today, I am pleased to announce the wait is over and this brand new version will, I hope, keep convincing you that Popcorn Movies will become the best and most beautiful movie tracking app on the App Store!

— ENOUGH SPEAKING, MORE FEATURES —

• You will now be able to enjoy the brand new iOS 13 Dark Mode in the app (an active subscription is no longer required).
