Overview of functions:

Automatic lap time recording
Thanks to precise GPS data, lap times can be automatically recorded.
You can select your desired track from over 200 predefined race tracks worldwide or simply create your own.

Recording of precise vehicle data
The Porsche Track Precision App is connected via the Porsche Communication Management system or a special app control unit with various control units and records accurate data from the vehicle sensors.

Recording of vital data
Heart rate is recorded via Apple Health if an Apple Watch is connected to the iPhone. The heart rate can be evaluated later in the analysis.

Live displays
Two live views are available while driving on a race track:
- Lap timer: Clear display of the lap time with real-time deviation to a reference lap recording as well as the predictive lap time
- Drive at your limits: Reduced display of your current and possible learned performance.

Video analysis
Use your smartphone while driving to record videos for subsequent analysis. To obtain an additional view point while driving, a second video can be added, for example, from another smartphone camera or action cam.
Videos are available to view on your smartphone directly after driving – enhanced with useful driving data to improve your performance.

Driving performance analysis
By connecting to the vehicle sensors, the app enables you to analyse additional driving data which can be compared with previous laps, allowing you to improve your driving performance, for example, in relation to the steering angle, braking pressure and the position of the accelerator pedal. Videos and driving data can also be exported to your PC for detailed analysis.

Bruno M Deus,
Nice app with the car data overlay
I’ve enjoyed the app for some years now and I feel that it has improved overtime.
Occasionally the data syncing and overlay is not right, but overall it does what it promises to do!
I’m not sure if I just couldn’t find it in the settings, but unfortunately I couldn’t use the app on my latest track day this past Monday. We did the Counterclockwise (CCW) Buttonwillow Raceway and it wouldn’t start recording as it was waiting for me to go the other way around (standard CW). Is there somewhere on the app that I can say we’re doing CCW? If not, maybe it’s something that can be added?
Again, otherwise I’ve loved the app so far! Not perfect, but a really awesome app!
silverbird141,
It used to be buggy; now it won’t connect to my car
I own a 2015 GT3. I was able to get the app to connect and work in 2018. At the beginning of 2018 it would occasionally crash. After a revision or two, it worked well. I attempted to use the app last month (Apr 2019) but was unable to connect the car to my phone via Wi-Fi. The password is GT3[VIN] but after 10 attempts—no joy. I closed all apps, restarted the iPhone X, deleted and reinstalled the app... I cannot get my phone to connect to the car. If you are on the fence about optioning Sport Chrono to use this app, I would not plan on it working. June 2019: The forums led me astray—the x is really an x in the password GTx[VIN]. The new interface is going to take some getting used to but now you can view video as you analyze data. One dislike is when you create a video, it displays your speed in kph and it doesn’t appear you can change it. Please make this more English friendly. 2022: I am unable to connect to the car again. I would not plan on this app working for you. It has worked about 20% of the time in my ownership of my car.
VoodooUomo,
Great idea with incredibly buggy execution
Absolutely love this app if it would just work. I don't need any new functionality, just the knowledge that it will work to log data and then work again when I need to export it.
I've been trying to use it for months. A few versions ago it would only really log data without crashing half the time. It seems to do better now with more or less reliable logging so long as you don't enable video recording.
Then this latest version completely and utterly broke both export and import. 100% crash if I try to export any recorded session to vbo or csv. Export to tpa works, but import (to try and open it on an ipad in the hope that wouldn't crash) does absolutely nothing.

It's just not acceptable to be shipping software that blatantly breaks functionality like this. A little bit of testing would go a long way, these aren't corner cases, just blatant breaks that make it impossible to trust that the app would do anything when you need it to.
cgmk,
No love for early adopters
I have a 2020 Taycan, which I waited for almost 2 years to take delivery of, through the early adopter program. And I track it, as all Porsches should be. This app looks awesome but does not work with my car. Only 2022 model onwards, it seems. Many of us are passionate fans and early adopters and we seem to get punished for that early adoption as opposed to being encouraged. Beyond “not supported” or “not compatible” I am having a hard time getting an answer on how I can enable my car to work with this app. Even though it has a pcm 6. I really think that a retrofit program should be conceived for such applications, within reasonable constraints, of course. Being behind two model years especially when hardware etc. should be there seems a travesty. Giving 2 stars because the concept is awesome albeit out of reach for some of us.

UPDATE: I had contacted customer support and just got the response saying it does not work for 2020 Taycan. Based on the developer response I contacted customer support again.

And again after a bunch of back and forth the response back was “ This app is only available for 911 and 718 model vehicles prior to the year 2022 models.”

I already realize this and I highlight this in my review and did the same in the email I sent. So the response was not very illuminating.

My question really is how this can be enabled for 2020 model year Taycan. Either via a pcm update or some other step.
KrysRoot,
Latest version needs a lot of work, still looks like a beta full of bugs
Just opened the latest version of the app that automatically download 3 days ago. I can no longer export video’s, the download locks up at around 75%. The replay function now puts the speed in KPM and not MPH and there does not appear to be any way to change the settings., The rev counter for some reason now shown my RPM on a Cayman GT4 shifting at near 10,000 RMP (I don’t think the warranty folks would like that. The replay defaults to the fastest lap and it’s not intuitive on how you get to the start of the session. I’ll be heading to a track event this week will let you know how it works to capture events. Also a large proton of the app descriptions are in German.

Update: despite a response from Porsche to provide assistance on the App issues, they were less than helpful. Went to another track event yesterday and the App has completely stopped working. The events are recorded by cannot be viewed, when you attempt to analyze or look at the event, the App crashes. Absolutely useless as it stands right now.
Mhjeep,
Doesn’t record sessions
So I have used several versions of this app. Prior versions would at least record my sessions.

Now with this version, when I try to record anything in free drive mode, it will say “recording not saved. Need to drive at least 1 km and at least 1 minute.” The app will say this regardless of the number of minutes or distance that I drive.

More annoyingly, when I tried to use the app for its main purpose with lap time, it wouldn’t save a single session. I went through the entire set up and it appeared to be working as stated. I am in a 992 GT3 with PCM6.0. The app is set up to work with Apple CarPlay. My phone was on windshield for video recording. I would go through the entire session and when I pull off the track for last session, the only option I have to stop recording was to hit the “finish recording” button. As soon as I would do this, the screen reverts back to start screen for a new session.

The problem is, nothing is saved! Despite appearing to be timing the laps and making videos, no data or video is saved to my phone.
Very frustrating.

Until porsche figures this out, the app is worthless. On a second note, I used to try to use video with a GoPro. It’s extremely finicky and challenging to sync videos. The issue becomes where the GoPro and the app are trying use wifi to connect at same time. So the connection keeps switching back and forth. This is with a GoPro Hero8.
Dan63085,
Update not working properly
The app actually worked flawlessly during my 6/9 trackday in my GT4. Since the update the overlay data seems to be off (at first i thought it was in kph but even that doesnt translate properly) and the rpm is way off (has my car revving to 9k rpm). I also cannot export any video as it keeps getting stuck at 83%. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you for your response. Just to respond to your response I have 160GB free on my phone...I also do not believe I am the only user having exporting issues.
HPDE user,
Seems like a developer app
Perhaps 3.0.2 is a better interface but this still seems like a developer app that wasn’t quite ready for release. For example, the ‘preferences’ section is almost entirely in German and only C/ KPH are displayed on the video review (full screen video that looks like the cockpit view) even though I have selected F/ MPH as my analysis setting and English (US) as my settings.

I’m glad the app now supports 4K video. The app’s video resolution selection is slow because I can select four video resolutions at one time and the app cannot decide which resolution to choose.

The app update corrupted part of a video file so now that video stops playing in the app after approximately nine seconds.
RajinCajun75,
So much potential - but currently useless
This app has so much potential. But it has been riddled with bugs since day one. Porsche should be ashamed of the quality of this product. Every iteration fixes one thing and breaks two others. Currently useless as neither steering input nor speed are being collected. Those worked fine before the most recent update, but session exports didn’t work well - by the second or third lap lol f the export the data overlay is out of sync with the video. App crashes all the time. Forced to delete the app and reinstall after most updates or the app crashed when trying to access previous recordings - meaning you remove all your previous recordings. Total garbage. Porsche needs to fix this.
tpitale,
Could be wonderful
First the UI is clear and concise compared to so many other track apps. Great there so far.

Video from the phone camera is easy to get set. ✅

Some issues I had this past weekend:

1. Video export is maybe in KPH but seems pretty inaccurate regardless. Cannot find a setting to change this.

2. Not sure if it using my phone GPS or the car’s, but either way it misses the start-finish line on most laps. I did 17 and it said I did 5 😂

3. The video export does not appear to have an option to not include the overlay. I like the overlay sometimes, but other times I just want to share the video.

4. When at a track day there potentially many porsches and many gopros. Finding and connecting which ones are mine could be easier.

5. Gopro was connected in their “Quik” app, but all seem to show up as (null), probably due to a change in GoPro software.

There are a few other things, maybe Porsche will fix some of this stuff first. 🤞🏼
