Description

Quick Poses is an app to help artists train their drawing skills by simulating a real world academic life drawing sessions.

Select your pose duration and a bunch of photo galleries and you are ready to go!

With Quick Poses, you can easily train your drawing skills, especially anatomy drawing. The purpose of this exercise is about trying to find the essence of the pose within the time constraint of the pose duration. Each time the pose duration expired, a new pose is presented so you can try again. At the end of each session, a summary is displayed. Use it to see how good you did this time.
As you train, you'll be able to check your improvements over time in the history section. This section keeps track of all your past sessions.

This exercise is called "gesture drawing" and it is a great way to develop your skills at observing, simplifying and making your drawings more dynamic. It is also very good for warming you up before any long drawing sessions.

A brief overview of the available features:

• Configure your poses duration to your liking from 5s to infinity.
• Control your session total duration by limiting the number of poses if needed.
• Add a warmup delay at the beginning of each pose so it gives you time to prepare (eg. get a new sheet of paper if you practice using traditional medium).
• Use your favorite Apple Pencil™ directly in the app if you want. You can then analyse your drawings at the end of each session.
• For longer poses, you can use your full artistic power by displaying the tool picker with more tools and colors at your disposal.
• When you draw side by side, choose the side you prefer whether you are left-handed or right-handed.
• Use iPad multi-tasking to draw in your favorite drawing app if you feel more confortable that way.
• Seven galleries provided by default with the application to practice on various subjects (people, animals).
• Add your own galleries using the Files app (see documentation included in the app for details).
• Choose whether to display your poses in a specific order or randomly.
• Analyse your progress over time with the history screen where you can see all your previous session results.
• Export your best drawings to show them to your friends or teachers, or to finish them in your favorite drawing app.
• Your privacy is important, and none of your data leaves the application.

Hi there!

This new update is fixing a nasty bug introduced in the last version that made QuickPoses unusable for some of you. This should be fixed with this new version. A huge thanks for your patience, your help in debugging and especially for not leaving any bad review!

And if you missed the last update, here is a recap of what's new:

REDUCED IPAD STORAGE USE
Quick Poses is now less hungry of your iPad storage space when saving your sessions history. You should find plenty of space to add new galleries and have even more fun!

SHUFFLED OR NOT SHUFFLED?
A new option has been added to allow you to choose whether you want your poses to display in their alphabetical order or shuffled as before. (Thanks Lin Sill for the suggestion)

MISSKIPPED WARM UP?
Do you ever skip by mistake your next pose's warmup period while making your last stroke on your previous pose? Never again!

If you haven't yet upgraded to iPadOS 15 or higher, you'll need to update your iPad if you want to take advantage of this new version and beyond. In order to give you the best possible features, I've had to withdraw support for older versions :(

Otherwise, there's been a whole host of updates under the hood that will bring you even more new features very soon! So get ready!

*** SUGGESTIONS? FEEDBACK? ***

As you've noticed above, I love to know how you're using Quick Poses and what is missing for you to fully enjoy it! So don't hesitate to send me all your suggestions and feedback to [email protected] so I can make the app more awesome for all of us! And if you like the app, don't forget to rate it on the store!

Small update to fix a problem with the new "Select All" button that didn't work until you selected at least one item.

______

Hi there!

It's been a while since there was a little new feature in Quick Poses so here's a little update to fill the gap:

KEEP TRACK OF YOUR PREFERRED PENCIL
Quick Poses is now a bit less stubborn, so if you change the default inking brush during a session, it will stop restoring his own favorite blue pencil at the beginning of each session! (thanks Sam for the suggestion)

(DE)SELECT ALL
You have accumulated a lot of galleries and you are tired of always selecting all your galleries but one or two? Say hello to the "select all" button!

If you're on iPadOS 15, you'll see that some navigation bars are displayed correctly again, and if you're still on iPadOS 13, you'll have to update your iPad if you want to take advantage of this new version and the following ones.

It's not much, but it's better than nothing! :)

Hi there!

Here is another small update that add a few new features, some of which you've requested:

The main one is the option to limit the number of poses for a session. This will allow you to easily make a series of exercises with different options (eg. 10 poses of 30 sec, then 5 of 1min, etc.)

As suggested by Xola Negra or Xensran, I've added a new option in the session screen to display the standard tool picker. Let's unleash your artistic talent in those longer poses!

Finally, for you, pen and paper lovers, you will no longer need to poke your lazy iPad every two minutes or so, to keep it from going to sleep during sessions with direct drawing disabled. And this is thanks to the great feedback of John Moran!

And you'll maybe notice a few other UI improvements here and there.

Hi there!

This new version includes a lot of small improvements which I hope will make your time in Quick Poses even more enjoyable!

First of all, I've added a new screen at first launch that will show you the most significant improvements right in the app in case you have automatic update and never read this text.

In the galleries list, you'll now browse them in alphabetical order which can be more pleasant when you start having lots of them (Thanks Betzalel g for the suggestion). I've also added the same multiselect pan gesture like in the Photos app to select several galleries in a single swipe.

I've also made some little improvements to the pose duration configuration:
- You can now define poses down to 5sec for more chalenging sessions (Thanks to Coine Dive for the suggestion)
- I've replaced the 30sec increments by a series of more useful presets, hope you won't miss those 12m30sec poses session! (Thanks Tehael for the suggestion)
- And you can now create a session with real infinite pose duration (not a fake 30min one) where you'll manually skip to next pose when done (Thanks Vivian for the suggestion)

The pencil tool used to draw is now much thinner so you can create more precise drawings.

And lots of other UI improvements here and there and some bugs fixes.

Three new poses galleries have been added for more fun and diversity. You can now train your skills at drawing cats, dogs and horses (Thanks Fritanke for the suggestion)

You can now share your best drawings with your friends or teachers, or finish them in your favorite drawing app. Just use the share button available in the fullscreen view of your session results.

Left-handed friend, you can now enjoy the app in best condition by switching the photo side when drawing in side by side mode (Thanks GeorgAusWien for the great suggestion).

French users will be happy to find the app in their favorite language. If you want to help translate the app in your language, feel free to contact me at [email protected] !

And finally, all the galleries available are brought to you thanks to a whole group of talented photographers, who are now properly thanked in a nice "about" view.

Better class of critic,
Good with your own database
I save a LOT of reference pictures, so this app gives an easy way to actually practice using those for gesture studies, or if I’m just not sure what picture I want to study or draw from. I rarely use the direct drawing, I keep it open alongside procreate and draw there. Once I started using this, I never went back to the browser gesture sites since I could use my own personalized ref folders
Klutonec,
Good start, but needs polish
App is effective as a very basic tool, that is to integrate an image shuffler with a timer in one app.

My Suggestions:
- Smart-shuffle, where the app corrects for images that happen to show up more often than others. Out of a pool of 80 images, I’d notice a handful of images that would just by chance pop up in almost half of my sessions, which may simply be an artifact of pure randomness but could be accounted for, similarly to how the iPod handled shuffle-play after complaints years ago.
- Add to the All Sessions viewer the ability to view all past sessions for a particular image, useful for seeing more noticeable progress over time.

Issues:
- App crashes very frequently when trying to view any past drawing session.
- Few instances where, upon moving on to a new photo, the sketch from the previous photo will remain. I think a quick hot fix would be to include a clear-all button just in case that happens.
krrish.animates,
Great app for growing artist
If you are looking for an app to improve your gesture drawings or timed art studies while also generating an archive to track your progress, look no further.

Support is also 5 star, response in less than 30mins, hope the author brings more app like those or adding more features! Cheers
betzalel g,
Really good but there’s a few features I wish it had
My experience with the app has been great but in my opinion it’s missing a couple important features.

- the ability to remove the default image galleries
- The ability to sort galleries by name (to me it just seems like they populate randomly
- the ability to set different intervals for the same session (eg. 1 minute for 10 pictures, then 3 minutes for 5 pictures, then 10 minutes for 1 pictures

That being said it’s a fantastic app but I really wish it could do some of this stuff.

Thanks!
TheKWJ,
Wonderful, honestly one feature missing.
I think the app would be amazing if there was a class session going from 30 sec to 10 min poses (or 1 hour sessions over all.) other than that this is exactly what I’ve been looking for in an app.
Coine Dive,
Needs 5 , 10, & 15 sec
This is good and easy to use but if it added 5, 10, and 15 second options then it would be good for croquis practice.
GabiDubh,
Not what I thought it was
I thought this would. Have a collection of photos to sketch from. The archive is very small and only good for a few quick sketch sessions. I does seem to be able to steam photos that you might already have archived.
It does not have ample photos to stream
