Quora is a question-and-answer forum that allows members to ask questions that other members may attempt to answer. The best responses to the questions are from people that have first-hand knowledge of the topic in question, though anyone may choose to respond. Quora encourages members to list their education, work, degrees or titles and other qualifications, to inform readers of their background in responding. That can be helpful, as it indicates the basis of knowledge that informs the respondent’s answers (though I find that common sense can trump formal education and degrees in producing quality responses).

Quora also offers members the opportunity to form pages to discuss topics that might not be of interest to the general membership but interests a smaller number of people. I think some of the motivation for that is to reduce conflicts between members with very different points of view.

The big weakness of Quora is how it’s moderators police the site, with some members allowed to make strong statements or hurl insults and their content is not deleted, while other members might have their responses deleted for similar or even less offensive content. Quora is run from San Francisco and thus is a site that caters more to Liberal ideas and thus plays favorites. I wish that were not so, but it’s life.

After having used the Quora app for about two years, I have come across a few annoying issues that really ruin the experience of the app. Firstly, every time I open the app, I have to wait for the app the respond to my touches. It can take anywhere from around 10 seconds to almost 20 seconds. I don’t know what it’s doing in the background, but it’s annoying. Next, when I want to search for a question, it seems to freak out and freeze the whole app. It opens the keyboard, and I can type on it, but there is a massive delay from when I press a key to it being displayed on the screen; it only happens when I open the app after not using it for a while. Next, very often when I am scrolling down through my feed and I tap on the “read more” on an answer, it doesn’t respond to my touch as if the read more button doesn’t exist. I can tap and tap as many times I want, but it will not open the answer. Tapping on the answer itself does nothing either. This happens randomly and I don’t know why or what triggers it. The last issue is the most annoying of them all. When I’m reading the comments, and I accidentally swipe left or right just a little bit, the whole app with hang and not respond at all. I have to manually close the app and reopen it again so it can work. These issues sometimes hold me back from even opening the app. Overtime, it seems that more problems are being made than fixed with every new feature update.

Hello I just want to convey my opinion and appreciation to the people that read QUORA. I just recently came across the site and realized that people were asking questions about an area I have substantial experience. I have no problem conveying my experiences, opinions and suggestions in hopes that it will help the readers in some way which will benefit them or someone they care about. Being incarcerated is not a pleasant experience in my opinion but through the years I have learned a tremendous amount of knowledge that has helped me to change my life, extend my life and enjoy it in much more rewarding ways than being locked up. It’s a real shame to see these young men 17, 18 , 19 years old commit crimes that will send them to prison for decades or their whole life. I am sure it is a real wake up call for them once they arrive but then it’s just too late. I also felt bad for the young men who have lost their lives serving our country in Uniform. It is the ultimate sacrifice a young man or lady can do to help defend this country and maintain it for the rest of us to enjoy. Fortunately I had the opportunity to serve this country and not have to give my life in its defense to which I am grateful. I enjoy conveying my experiences on this website and I hope it can help some of the readers.

I found Quara accidentally by asking Google what I might have done wrong in my marriage to deserve the horrible treatment I received for 22 years.. Quara popped up with, I was married to a narcissist! I had no idea all those years and finding that information gave me great relief. I felt a lot better knowing that I did not do anything wrong to deserve that. I have been reading Quara for about 15 years now. It really helps to hear what others have and are still going through. When I was seeking information, my husband had died a few months earlier. Of course he was divorcing me right after my mother died. He actually died 7 months later when he had put me into an apartment and taken off to Mexico with a stripper from an 18 and older strip club in a neighboring city. I was able to keep everything! Could have turned out way different! I feel the Lord was watching out for me. It’s been a long hard road to recovery. I know I can’t fully recover from it but I am getting somewhat better with the depression but trying to get back in the swing of things like I used to isn’t going to happen.. but I’m loving and living life on my terms now, how I want to and it is very invigorating ! I look forward to every new day being happy, happy, happy!

Unbelievable to preponderance of people asking over and over about vaxing, variants, masking, social distancing - all long ago being proven ineffective, with a veritable ARMY OF impassioned (Biden / Fauci-followers?) to keep the narrative going and attack those like me, unvaxed 63-yr old COVID surviving somewhat overweight man who constantly posted the Israeli study showing 2 years ago that recovery gave 28 TIMES vaccine protection against Delta when it came… but the personal / family situation / informational pieces are often wonderful; little-known historical, WWII articles by citizens, even chemists who made sure my contention that USA natural gas, not windmills, & Chinese solar—is the logical next energy step as 40% less carbon per BTU are produced than with liquid fuels - when I asked them how much energy / vs carbon is produced by natural gas (methane) fuel. Let’s not even get into the left destroying clean nuclear with the help of Dan Fogleberg, from my youth ! So, now that a each of repeat covid questions has finally settled down im back to to replying to a Quora post today ! About childhood trauma of adopted children - I’m going to recommend 12-step “Celebrate Recovery” Christian programs nationwide to them

As much as I like Quora, its constant issues are annoying. Some of my answers get collapsed randomly for having “adult” or “sexual content” when it doesn’t have any. I edited one of my posts that had been out for 4 months and it got collapsed 3 minutes later for no reason at all. No matter how much work I put behind something, it doesn’t seem to matter if it gets collapsed or deleted for having a certain content that it doesn’t. I’m not the only one it happens to either. The chat is also messed up, I can’t stay in the same direct message with someone without having to reload the site because it gets slow and has an error the more that is typed. That has been a problem for over a year and I thought it would be fixed by now. Also, recently I’ve noticed a good portion of my answers and posts are blurred and I really don’t know why, and I’ve seen it on other peoples answers too. It’s getting harder and harder to want to use this broken site and I’m honestly questioning if it’s worth it due to all the constant random problems.

You can only see one side of any question or comment! If Trump is so horrible then you are saying 1/2 of Americans are stupid why can’t you just accept a difference in opinions & not go on & on about his looks, personality, he was a businessman who didn’t know nothing about how things were done in Washington now that he knows how corrupt the swamp is perhaps he will fit in & run the country the rest of the way into the ground. Quit calling your fellow Americans stupid because they don’t believe the way Democrats believe I have been a Democrat my entire life until I see the obsession & hate they have for one person. I am no Trump supporter but thank God I am no hater & only want to talk about Jan 6th & if he wanted to over throw the government I think he would have had it planned a little better instead of getting one of his supporters who was a veteran killed. used Apple ID to login and the app FORCED me to provide my email address and name anyway. It said "optional" but after many tries, 10 minutes of waiting for the app to spin after trying to skip entering an email address (defeating the point of using Apple ID to login) I entered a random email address and I was treated with several minutes dealing with captcha crap... really?! If they have so many issues controlling fraud and/or Quora isn't sophisticated enough to deal with modern threats that they require more captcha tricks than I've ever seen I'm definitely not trusting any content... and most definitely not posting or providing my info. I see the app has high ratings... it might deserve them once you jump through all the hoops and provide personal data, but after such an inconvenient and annoying process FORCING login, FORCING giving personal data and giving info I don't want to give just to read something, I am deleting. There are far too many legit platforms I can use that don't do this... I'm surprised so many use Quora... sheep I imagine. Nevermind...I just skimmed/read a ton of so reviews... they are reviewing posts on Quora not the app or experience with the app. In fact, I stopped trying to reviews that weren't about content on Quora - only found a couple about Quora itself and they were 1-star.

As much as I enjoy Quora I’ve come to despise the app. It ruins my ability to access Quora content via the website or email by blocking website content and misdirecting requests to ‘read more’ from an email.
Before I had the app I would get directed to the website from a daily email I would get. Right around the time I’m in the middle of a good answer, a pop up appears on my screen recommending that I download the app. The problem is that there’s no way to close the pop up. You either close the page before finishing the answer or download the app. Useless.
Finally I had enough and downloaded the app. Now my emails open the app when I want to ‘read more’ of an answer. Unfortunately the app doesn’t take me directly to the answer I was interested in. It takes me to a feed with different questions. So I give up on the email question that brought me to the app in the first place and start browsing the feed and reading an answer to a new question. Right around the time I’m in the middle of that answer, the screen switches to the answer from the question in the email. Useless. After finishing the email answer, it doesn’t take me back to the question that it interrupted me from, instead it takes me back to my feed and that question is nowhere in sight. Useless.

I stopped using the site because Quora puts up unclosable pop-ups when you DONT have the app. I downloaded it and there is nothing it can do wouldn’t be doable if they hadn’t played around with the mobile version of the site to make it less functional, AND it was slower, so I deleted it. Then I would spark up the site and get halfway through a question or reading a response and the unclosable pop up. I would exit, and it would be frustrating to find where I was. Trying to engineer my behavior in such an underhanded fashion has led me to stop using the site on my phone and my PC. I make sure to open Reddit and a few other similar sites a few times a day to get the stats up on their competitors.

In making the switch, I found that Quora is much more likely to butt-in in questions and comments to engineer the conversations in such a way as to suppress free thought and any sort of disagreement that goes against the biased views of the Quora team. I really like how with reddit I don’t get notifications from Quora’s algorithm asking me to read and answer all the troll questions (there are a LOT of trolls on this site).

If you are into that sort of thing, Quora is for you! Not me - I would rather actually get to see the well thought-out and politely worded disagreements with my views remain unmoderated.
