2.2.1
2013-10-12
2.2.1 - Fixes Crash in devices running iOS 5.1 and below.

2.2.0 - New Major update! Includes several new features including:
1. Complete redesign of the sequencer object:
Create more complex musical ideas better than ever before, with increased available octaves from one to five, and the possibility of making different length notes inside your sequences. Which can now span into multiple bars giving you extra room for creativity. After you’re done you can navigate through them using the new user interface to scroll or jump directly to a specific location using the scroll bars. There is also a piano roll feedback for easy reference of the current sequence.

2. New polyphonic sampler format inside the Sampleplay objects:
Create new instruments and sound banks using your own samples. Simply assign each sample to its corresponding note and play them as usual, the intermediate steps get pitch shifted to their corresponding notes; each sampler has a polyphonic envelope control that allows you to modify the way these samples get played.
You can also save the sound bank and reuse it in your future tables or download tables and increase your musical palette.
3. Added virtual keyboard subpanel
New virtual keyboard panel allows you to instantly trigger notes. Use it in combination with the sampleplay objects to perform live or with the sequencer to compose musical phrases on the fly.

4. Added bluetooth headphone setting.
Go into settings and connect your paired bluetooth headphone with reactable mobile.

SviatoslavB,
Help!
Ent one knows, it is possible to listen to what plays in airpods or bluetooth?
Eriptron,
Are there any intelligent developers left?
And the last update is unstable crashing Reactable all the time now making it useless now. Sigh.
-------
Loading the update wiped clean what I was working on! I am really starting to get sick of irresponsible developers!

Last Kindle update made it completely unusable.
iOS 8.x should never have seen the light of day.
iOS 9.x has pregnant pauses and erratic performance issues with the last two updates.
OneNote last update causes the app to freeze when using 'x' to delete more than 4-5 characters in a large text only documents.

I could go on.

What I am seeing are developers that don't want to invest in QA/QC and just dump their buggy product on their customers and use us as beta testers.
littlewoodg,
Huge fun
Very special very deep

It’s not a DAW, it’s it’s own thing, a playground, laboratory

Slick, but Really Limited
Reactable has a really nice looking interface, and does introduce some pretty fun ways to directly interact with the playback of loops. That being said, the app is pretty limited in what it can do. I was expecting something more on par with Jasuto, or with the generative qualities of Aura Flux, or at least the ability to do some more complex manipulation of sound. Reactable offers a slick way to fiddle with the standard fare of filter sweeps, eq, etc, but doesn't go farther. Also, if you are looking for a compositional or sound design tool, look elsewhere. Reactable only sounds good when it's playing back loops you've created in other apps. It's ability to generate original interesting tones is very minimal. But if you are looking for a fun, touchy-feely way to play back some loops, Reactable could be the app for you.
Ghimel Starr,
Waste of Money
I’ve been playing music for 21 years. Been an Audio Engineer for around 10 years.

This is one of the WORST DAWs I’ve ever seen.

DO NOT BUY. WASTE OF MONEY.
justinchogue,
Is Bjork the manual reading type?
$10 is a LOT of money for an app...UNLESS that app is an amazingly functional digital live performance instrument that is as deep as it is fun to use. I bought Aura Flux first (only because I noticed it in the app store first plus it was only $3) and I loved toying around with it so much that I figured a similar concept packed with pro features would easily be worth every peso of the ten buck price tag...Reactable EXCEEDED all expectations of what I'd assumed it would be capable of. The description's mention of Bjork using Reactable live led me to believe it would be a relatively simple app to figure out. My theory is based solely on the fact that she doesn't look like much of a manual reader. But in defense of my theory I mean that with the utmost respect and she really is the true winner because no one that reads manuals would look as stunning (and by 'stunning' I mean awesomely awkward" in a giant stuffed swan...on national tv...with a straight face...for real...cause that s@#* really happened.

But um, yeah...Reactable.

Worth it...so buy it already.
interactivenyc,
Please add Audio Loop Recording
I like this app, and find it fun to play with. I have a few suggestions for the developers that could make it an even better product.

I'd love to see an audio loop recorder built in. There's already an audio input module, and it's fun to sing into the mic while playing. Being able to record vocal loops in would make it a more powerful song creator. Also, you could plug in guitars or other instruments and add a whole new dimension of live performance into it. There's a bit of latency with the mic input, so perhaps there could be a way of pushing the audio input directly into the output stream without processing while recording to help address this issue.

Dropbox integration would be a great feature, as well as audio copy/paste like you can do with iShred. A second echo/reverb unit would also be nice, but I understand there might be performance issues. And of course, the ability to record a performance would be great.

Great product - I look forward to seeing it develop over time. If you get the loop recording feature in, I'll revise my review to 5 stars!
preemption,
Community
I'd have rated this two stars, but after the community feature It's five star minus one. The lacking star is fir the lack of true modularity, and because any truly useful composition must come from outside the app.

I think it could be more clear this an awesome remixer for live performances after you have a decent set of loops generated elsewhere. It excels in creating a billion unique variations drawing from concepts from sequencer, filters, modular synths and other musical manipulation ideas. It's also very good at letting you manipulate things in realtime using just one screen but in a powefull, trully productive way.
fftq,
Modular synthesis for people who don't know what that is
Reactable is a great concept. The original design has a great "wow" factor to it. So does iPad. Ergo the natural thing to think is "wow Reactable on the iPad- they are meant for each other!" - right? Wrong.

That's what I originally thought, and bought this the second it was in the app store, but must say I am thoroughly disappointed. The original concept is based around moving physical blocks to change a sound, and this is a software version of that. But where this falls short is exactly where any sw falls short when it tries to take something meant for physical contact and shove it on a touchscreen. It just doesn't work that great.

Their gestures are not intuitive (or that responsive) and the sound design aspects are VERY limited. This is modular synthesis for people who don't know what to expect from a modular synth. Why can't you plug the output of an oscillator into the frequency input of a 2nd oscillator? From a UI standpoint, this is not even clear. There is no indication what inputs are exposed and what outputs can go into them. And for a quote "modular synth" that fact is a pretty big deal breaker for me.

The Korg iMS-20 is way more useful, musically speaking.
DJ Litldick,
OMG!!!!!!!!!
I have been following the Reactable for years now. I first saw it in action on tour with Bjork, before her Volta album. In which she used it on more, but previous to that album she had already had it with her. Anyways this app is just to much fun and to somewhat be able to play on what I would consider the mist user friendly instrument. I use it on my iPhone 4 and have not run into any problems yet. I've had it for 24 hours and play non stop, just keep your power supply close and your WESC headphones on for the best results.
