Morrisongl04,
Amazing app!
I have been looking for a way to save my recipes for years. After making my own physical book, I transitioned to saving recipes on my iPad in my files by using a pdf converter to save web recipes to my device. This was somewhat time consuming and pulled in all of the preamble and comments which could be up to 40 pages of content to scroll through before getting to the actual recipe and then the recipe wasn’t able to be edited without using the edit feature in the files program to cover up then type in my own text. I found this time consuming and frustrating. The My Recipes program pulls in only the recipes and directions from websites and allows you to easily edit them as well as categorize and search based on title. If you purchase the program for a small fee of $5 you can make shopping lists and do meal planning. I have not used these features yet, but I believe they could be an invaluable tool so I purchased the program. I mean, it’s only $5. My time is worth so much more than that. For someone who cooks and bakes a lot, this program is pure heaven.

Formerly (The best ever! Really, I mean it.) Now it’s just OK.
The more I use the “new & improved” RecipeBox, the more I dislike it. It’s almost impossible to input a new recipe. I can’t share a recipe since it won’t show ingredients when sent. I can’t easily search my recipes. Please restore my favorite recipe app.

My original review is below and I meant every word. The new update is awful. I miss that alphabet sidebar for a quick search for a recipe. I just manually entered a recipe and the instructions box wouldn’t accept anything. Having the recipe photo (also a useful search tool and inspiration to try a new saved recipe) reduced to a thumbnail is not very useful. If there is a way to go back to the previous format please let me know how to do that!

I was looking for a recipe app to replace one that started charging. The best change I ever made. RecipeBox gives me the option to import a recipe without a bunch of cut & pasting. I love adding categories to make it easy to find a recipe and have them on my phone while shopping. I love that I can share a recipe with friends (making sure to tell them this is the best recipe app ever). Now that I’ve been using it awhile and most of my foodie friends have started using it, I’m ok paying to access other features and keep RecipeBox going. If you gather recipes to try later or just want to keep that family recipe close at hand, this one will work for you.

Love this App!
Love this app so far! So easy to find recipes and keep them organized for quick review! I’m notorious for screenshotting recipes online and saving them in my camera roll, in which they promptly get lost forever. I love you can port the URL straight from the website into your recipe box. Only suggestion I would make on that front is if there is some way it could intuitively pull only the recipe itself and format it as a recipe card. Currently it just brings up the website itself which is usually a blog so I end up having to scroll and scroll forever to get to the recipe at the bottom. This would also keep the recipe if the website ever goes down or is taken down. I still love it though and it works for now. My last hope is someday integrating with Instacart or one of those online shopping modules so busy mamas like me can port the ingredients straight over to a shopping list and order my groceries. That would be a dream!! Other than those two suggestions I absolutely LOVE this app and it is making my meal planning SO much easier!
hkblur,
Version 3 update, disappointed!
v3.1.0 - Still heating up my iPhone 13 Pro more than a 3D game. The only time I had to charge my phone during the day over the past year I’ve had it…when I left my recipebox open for 30 minutes while cooking and didn’t notice the heat/resource usage while on the countertop. Looks like we’ll wait until the next update. 1-star

v3.0.0 - Long-time user that’s loved the simplicity of the UI and layout over the years, with excellent recipe importing and simple recipe list/display that was shown on a single easy-to-see page. Not any more! Used to have a clean recipe list with alpha/ABC side search, now missing. To find a recipe now, either you scroll through the huge, clunky boxes or you search. Searching a title is not helpful, for example, “butter” to find your “butter chicken” recipe yields all recipes that contain butter. Scrolling slowly, it is! HOT! The updated app (and only this app) makes my iPhone 13 Pro super hot for no reason. Noticed after having the (simple text) recipe up while cooking, but have tested app-wide and it’s an app thing. There must be a utilization issue or memory leak, but even 3D games don’t make this phone hot like that. Back to the drawing board, team. In the meantime, I’ve printed out my most used and will check in every few weeks to see the update notes. 1-star
Emily Polkadot,
Undo the update
This was the best app I’d ever used: easy to save and edit recipes, and the format on my iPad was perfect for seeing all ingredients and instructions at once. I recommended to all my family and they loved it too!
The update that was just released last week has messed up everything that made this app great (besides saving from a website - that still works fine). Ingredients and instructions are really hard to edit. It is much more frustrating to add categories. On the home page with all my recipes, there is no longer the “ABC” list on the right side that made scrolling quick and easy. The notes are at the bottom of the recipe, when I liked to have my notes and description at the top where it caught my eye. It also is very glitchy. I was trying to add a big recipe with a lot of ingredients by hand. I was nearly finished typing in all the ingredients when the screen flashed and my recipe edits were gone. I gave up on trying to do everything again because I had just wasted so much time. Very frustrating.
Overall, I am very sad that this update occurred. The app was perfect as it was before, and I’m going to see if I can uninstall the update so I can continue to use the app.
grannygetslost,
Great app, helpful developers.
I am really impressed with this app and the developers. First of all, I Love that it’s just a one time fee and not a subscription. I had a few issues with signing in and the developer got back to me quickly and fixed the issue. Also, I had a suggestion of something I would like to see the app offer, and they are working on that too!
It’s incredibly easy to save my own recipes into this app, and plan a menu and even make a grocery list. My suggestion was to be able to get my husband to help with the menu planning, and they are working on us being able to share that, but in the meantime, I can sign in to my account on my husbands device. (This is huge for me because any help I can get from a man that hates to get anywhere near the kitchen is a blessing).
It’s everything I need in a kitchen app, without a subscription! Even the free version has a lot to offer.
Alinarf,
Unhappy with “Streamlined” Changes
I’ve been using RecipeBox for a few years now as part of my daily routine. I loved all of the amazing features they used to have on the app. They recently decided to “streamline” it, which I’m not entirely sure why because it sounds like other people were happy with the old features as well. They got rid of the calendar food scheduling, they made “lists” on the same page as the grocery shopping page? Honestly I can’t even tell you because it’s so confusing. I’ve hearted things before to put it on my list, and then it’ll just disappear. I hate this streamline so much, I really wish they would listen to their users and go back to the way things were. I love to be organized, have calendars, have separate tabs for different things, etc. I hate how this was streamlined. I also don’t like that we no longer have the “stay on” button for the screen, because my screen does not automatically stay on so I literally have to go into my settings each time I use the app and manually keep it at “keep on” just to look at a recipe. Please listen to your users! You’d have a 5 star rating!
Sawks25,
Loved it BEFORE the update
I used to love this app for my recipes. I’ve had it for about 2-3 years and had very little issues with the old version. I could quickly upload or manually enter recipes (and I have A LOT) saved. But since they changed the format, I have had nothing but issues. It crashes CONSTANTLY and freezes every time I use it. I cannot manually enter a recipe and save it as it tells me I have to “sign in” even though I am signed in and have been from day one. I have sent two feedbacks emails to the company from the site about all the issues. They used to respond in about a day and would fix my issues. This time, it took over two weeks to hear back on my first email (no helpful answer) and still crickets on my last email.

I’m VERY DISAPPOINTED with this new version and the changes. I even bought a new iPhone (not just for this) hoping maybe it would help thinking maybe the new version only works with later iPhones but I still have issues every time I use it or try to use it. It would be one thing if it actually worked and didn’t constantly crash and freeze. I guess I need to look for another app for my recipes.
GeniusLlama,
New update concerns
I loved this app until the most recent update. In addition to the many other reviews who expressed their reasons as well as to why they miss the old interface, I also have my reasons. I miss the calendar feature where I could schedule meals or review past meals I’ve made. It is also more difficult to upload recipes directly from a website as it’s very glitchy and often won’t allow me to make any further edits to the recipe (i.e. sometimes the title will save as the website link and it won’t let me change it). The shopping list feature is also difficult to use now, it is harder to select specific ingredients from each recipe to add to my list as well as delete old ingredients i no longer need. Therefore, I’m no longer using the shopping list feature anymore although I used to love it. The general outward appearance of the new update looks good but it is much more frustrating to use. If there was a way to go back before this recent update, I certainly would.
travis_tucker_12,
Wish I would have found this years ago
This app is awesome. I’ve never took the time to review an app before, but I had to for this one. You can enter in your personal recipes and it keeps it organized. You can also import other people’s recipes that you found online by just copying and pasting the URL. I really like that you can separate all of your recipes into different categories and even add them to multiple categories. It makes it easy to find what you are looking for. For me, the best part is being able to take recipes that you imported from online, tweak them, and then save it. I always tweak recipes to how I like it or to what ingredients I usually have on hand. In the past, I would change up a recipe and like it, but the next time I cooked it I couldn’t remember what I changed. This fixed that problem for me. And no more writing down recipes and losing them in the drawer.
