Description

Enjoy the nostalgia of this classic game re-created in the original style of the TI-99/4a computer game from the 1980's!

Re-live the era with blocky but colourful graphics and simple but captivating sound effects.

You are the commander of the starship Parsec patrolling an alien planet. Suddenly, the on-board computer announces that you are about to come under attack by small alien fighters and large, heavily armed, hostile alien cruisers!

The fighters are highly mobile, and unless they are eliminated by your laser, they fill the screen, restrict manoeuvering of your craft, and may cause a deadly collision. The cruisers are highly aggressive and their armament devastating. Armed with photon missiles, they track your ship and fire on it. You must out-manoeuver and destroy them with accurate fire from your ship's laser. If you survive the waves of alien craft, do not let down your guard, for you also have to blast through an asteroid belt or refuel your ship, demanding the utmost in skilful flying.

Parsec is a challenging, exciting game packed with thrills. Danger and excitement are brought on with each new attack. Some of Parsec's features include:

- Waves of attack from seven different alien craft.

- Challenging flights through refuelling tunnels.

- Asteroid belts through which you must blast a path for your starship.

- Synthesised speech to warn of approaching alien craft or when it's time to refuel.

- Three different lifts to vary the speed at which the ship moves vertically.

- Increased difficulty levels to challenge you.

Parsec is a one-player game which tests your skills and strategy. Movement of the ship on screen may be controlled by on-screen controls or an MFI certified Bluetooth controller.

When the Bluetooth controller is used, the A button is for firing the laser and the B button alters the lift speed.

Scoring of points for destroying alien craft increases with waves and levels. Bonus points are awarded for successfully navigating an asteroid belt and refuelling.

Asteroid belts increase in speed and duration as levels increase. Extra ships are awarded at certain score levels throughout the game.

Love this remake of an old classic
Nostalgic. Brings back memories of my first computer, the TI99/4A and it’s amazing gameplay. I played Parsec all the time.

My only issue is with the controls. It’s difficult to play on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Can the controls be moved closer to the center - at least for the larger form factors? The fire button is in the lower-right corner and is often missed when tapped. It’s nearly off-screen for me.

Upgrade Support Needed
I absolutely love this app. Ah, the memories it brings as a young kid paying this game with parents, siblings, and friends back in the 80’s on our “new” Texas Instrument game consoles. Thank you for creating this app to allow such wonderful memories to resurface! To my dismay, with the recent iPhone and iOS upgrades, there’s a screen resolution issue causing the bottom portion of the game screen not to be visible. I’ll continue play occasionally on an older phone as long it’s still operational. My fingers are crossed the developers will do an upgrade allowing us nostalgic players to once again play to our hearts content on more current platforms. Thank you again for creating this app and letting us re-live such childhood memories!!! Let Parsec live on!!

Faithful Recreation of a Classic Game
The TI 99/4A was my first computer, and Parsec was my favorite game on it (though I didn't have the speech synthesizer). This game is a spot-on recreation -- right down to the littlest details in the scrolling terrain and the way that only one sound effect can be heard at a time.

It would be nice if the game would keep and display high scores. Also, the "joystick" can be twitchy (often when I slide it to go up, it starts off by moving the plane down before correcting), particularly on the smaller phone screen as opposed to on a big iPad screen. But these are mere quibbles. Five stars for the sheer joy of being able to relive happy childhood moments!

COOL!!
Thank you for releasing Parsec for me!! I owned a Texas Instruments computer as a kid, and missed playing Parsec and Munch Man dearly through the years. There was only a few games, and the speaker was sold separate from the computer, so when we were finally able to afford it, the games sounds were so awesome!! And coding was fun to do as well, and there was only a few things you could do, and the internet wasn’t around yet, so everything was new and amazing.
Buster9z,
Only two thing needs to be changed
Please add external bluetooth joystick support, so that it will work with iPhone joysticks, and I can use a separate joystick just like I did back in my TI994A days.

Please stop the top score from resetting. To encourage game play, I want to try to beat my last high score with my kids, but the app doesn’t retain the top score after exiting :(
COMOSal,
Faithful recreation destroyed by poor controls
This was the first game I played on the first computer I ever owned. Was very excited to find it and alleviated the very accurate recreation. Unfortunately the experience is ruined by poor controls on the iPhone. Stuck in the lower corners with several misses during key moments in the game. Also game should only be played on the iPad where controls and the entire screen can be seen (bottom landscape cutoff on iPhone version). Am I supposed to use a separate controller? That doesn’t fix the landscape cutoff (can’t refuel).

Takes me back to my childhood!
Awesome remake! I forgot how difficult it was. However on my iPhone 14 pro max, the controls are in the corners, almost off the screen completely. Makes it difficult to hold the phone and they aren’t very responsive. They need to be moved in the screen more. Other than that it’s great!

Great port
It’s an excellent recreation of this great TI game.

In level 2, the bynite ships disappear before they are destroyed. I don’t recall that happening in the original game.

On my iPhone X, the control “stick” gets stuck if you move your thump outside of the circle. It would be great if the control provided some type of haptic feedback when you’re at the movement limit.
NuZooRevue,
Terrible controls for an awesome game
I loved Parsec on the TI-99/4a. This is a faithful reproduction, except for one thing.

The controls are terrible! They only work intermittently, and the fixed location and small trigger areas only serves to highlight the shortcoming of touch-screen controls - you have to look at the controls, to use them.

The control area is too small, which means you frequently miss them.

Because they are fixed, you constantly have to look down to reorient your fingers.

They also seem far more sensitive than the controls on the original. The game and ship speed at level 1 feels like level 3, on the original; it’s too easy to fly into the ground or an enemy ship.

I want to love this game again, but it’s pretty much unplayable past level 1.

Feel like a kid again…but controls not responsive enough
I love this game,,,I wish the screen joystick control was more responsive and not so close to the edge. My son thinks it doesn’t work right because the controller is too close to the screen border. We are using a iPad Pro.
