Description

From the creator of Flashnote Derby comes a fun and educational app that helps kids learn about rhythm and how it is written with music notation.

Students will love outwitting the nasty crocodile by tapping rhythms correctly. A variety of levels take students from simply keeping a steady beat up through all different types of notes and rests. The humorous gameplay will keep them motivated to master each new concept.

Each level of Rhythm Swing has a brief instructional video which explains the new rhythm concept. Students can view and listen to short musical phrases and hear exactly how they sound. In practice mode, you can attempt hundreds of rhythms until they are mastered. Helpful feedback will guide you in fixing any mistakes. When the student is ready, they can progress to the game, which requires precise accuracy.

Types of Rhythms Covered:
Quarter Notes and Quarter Rests
Half Notes and Half Rests
Whole Notes and Whole Rests
Dotted Half Notes
Eighth Notes and Eighth Rests
4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 Time Signatures

More levels featuring more complex rhythms are coming soon!

Here's what some of our early reviewers are saying...

"My students and I LOVED Rhythm Swing. It was a real eye opener as to which of my students could instinctively keep a steady beat."
- K. W., piano teacher

"This is a great app. I am using it with beginners. It helps to maintain the steady beat ...at different tempos. What makes it different from other rhythm apps is that it requires holding half notes for two full counts, it progresses slowly enough to use with beginners and it uses different tempi in each level. Thank you!"
- J. Z., piano teacher

"After playing with Rhythm Swing for awhile my students and I have grown to enjoy it. Most of them like the practice section better than the game because they feel less pressure but eventually they all get around to playing the game. I have all positive things to say about it so far... Keep up the great work!"
- S. C., piano teacher

Patchez831,
Overall very good game
First I would highly recommend this game. It is a lot of fun.

I only give 4 stars because there isn’t a huge selection of rhythms or time signatures. (No 6/8 time and very few 3/4 time) Also 16th notes and ties would be great. This game is excellent for children. It would also be bomb if there were endless modes / endless practice modes or full songs.

Great App! Hope More Levels Are Added!
UPDATE JANUARY 2018: I am still using this app and find that it is enjoyed very much. I hope the developer can add more musical background tracks to the already awesome amount that there is. It would make the game more refreshing and interesting to players. How about adding in triplets and 16th notes? What about 6/8 time? All the improvements that have been made so far have been very good. Please keep on expanding and updating this app! It’s a real winner!

The only complaint I have was brought to my attention by a young student. When the Boss Level starts, the audio soundtrack of the alligator stomping onto the screen from the left does not match the animation. It seems to be out of sync.

2017 REVIEW:

This is a very well put together and cleverly executed app. I hope the developer plans on adding more levels to the game to incorporate such things as 16th notes and triplets and 6/8 time.

Great little app
My kids love the application. However, like many others I agree that 16th notes would be great to have. I would also add that it would be great to have a coaching feature. Letting the kids know that they either played the note too long or short. With younger players they get confused on which direction they should go.

Excellent for teaching rhythm, sound quality could be a little better
This app is great for teaching kids rhythm but the sound quality could be better

Decent
This is a well-organized app, it is cute & fun & good way for students to practice rhythms. However, I felt it was missing some key features:
-the tempos can not be adjusted by the teacher & some of the tempos are really fast
- there is no way to chart a student's progress like in other apps such as classroom maestro
- it is definitely only for beginners because it doesn't go beyond 8th notes

Great for Teaching Piano
This app has been a game changer in teaching my elementary piano students about rhythms!! Huge!! Now when they play a song, I say “think about the monkey!” And they immediately play with an even tempo. I also love this developers Flashnote Derby. A few requests/suggestions;

Can you make this app like Flashnote where I can keep track of each students progress?

Also - the kids seem to fear the monkey getting “eaten”. Although it does motivate them to try harder! Maybe take that fear out of the game.

Thanks so much for a great tool in teaching piano!

Needs to go further
The app is fun, very clear and kids really like it. They get involved trying to save the monkey, but does this really go only till eighth notes? I really think you should add triplets and sixteenth notes to be a complete rhythm basic app, maybe to unlock those levels after finish these ones, so kids get motivated to keep going.

Entertaining, but falls a bit short
The app is very entertaining and addicting, which is great for young students. However, many of us have found tapping the notes to demonstrate rhythm is frustrating. Like piano maestro, I would much prefer the app hear me tapping on a drum or the lid of my piano. This would mimic more real-life application of rhythm.
Piano teacher in Delaware,
Fun, but keeps crashing
I bought this to use with my piano students. The game portion of the app works great! However, the lessons keep crashing, and sometimes they don’t load correctly. Hopefully this can be fixed because I really want all my beginners to purchase this app.
VonMusicgirl81,
My students love this app !!
All my students ask to do this every week !! It is such a fun way to reinforce rhythm! I would love if the developers would add sixteenth notes and more complex rhythms .
