Ribbons is an extraordinarily fun and expressive musical instrument.
Inspired by early electronic instruments such as the Ondes Martenot and the Theremin, Ribbons (formerly "Ondes") emulates the fluid playing style of those classic instruments with an interface and synthesis engine firmly grounded in the present day.

SWARM OSCILLATORS
Two extra oscillators to thicken your sound. Detune them and tell them lag behind to create a swarm effect.
HOLD BUTTON
Press the ‘hold’ button to sustain notes indefinitely. Play melodies over top or move the sustained notes around.
MIDI Mode
You asked for it… You can now control other synths and electronic instruments with Ondes using MIDI. Please read the instructions though — there are a few things you should know about first!
NEW MODULATION PARAMETERS
The Y Axis can now control more parameters:
Assign the Y Axis to control wavetable LFO rate & depth.
Assign the Y Axis to control filter LFO rate & depth.
Adjust the Y Axis to control volume from -100% to 100%

Now my go-to expressive lead app.
This is the control I've been waiting for. I'd like to see a stack of 1-3 vertical sliders on your choice of left or right, color settings, and the ability to assign anything to a slider or Y. A second keyboard above with it's own settings incl. height and pitch offset would be great too.
My only complaint is that notes begin on standard pitches even with 0 snap set.
Even better than the positive/neg slider would be separate pos/neg amt-amt sliders each with their own y-axis center, or just freehand a vertical levels wave for each parameter. This would truly single out Ribbons as the most expressive live controller possible (unless you want to add four y-level assignments, for each ADSR phase). That would be the ultimate control this app is heading towards. Public domain KRPM.

i just wish i wasn’t in an old mini ipad
goooood lord: this app is amazing for the price. i was looking for a ribbon controller to send midi into my modular analog rig (which it totally does with the right tools), but i have been spending most of my time with it within its own synth, because the digital synth itself is shockingly robust, and it’s amazing to have endlessly polyphonic ribbon control!

I just bought this app hoping to use with my MPE devices only to find there is no MIDI input, only MIDI output options. Very disappointed.

It's a niche product, but a good one
I've felt conflicted about how I feel regarding Ondes. I didn't buy it immediately, but definitely kept my eye on it from Day One. Even now that I own it, I'm not exactly sure how to use it in my music. But if you watch some of the demos and like what you see and hear, I feel like it is a 5-star app with a unique interface and resulting sound.
The "slider" interface is very attractive looking, but it's not really an "innovation" for this app. ThumbJam, Bebot, Figure, SynthX, and on and on have all used some variation of this control scheme, which works great on an iPad. Unfortunately, MIDI out control is not in the works at this time, but perhaps in the future.
So the usefulness of Ondes will mostly depend on its unique internal sounds. I will say that the presets don't offer a huge array of variety, but there is a synthesis engine within your app, which is what differs it from something like ThumbJam, which is sample-based. So you make your own sounds. Really liked the slider controls and variation of "snap to" as you cross over note lines. You can have a meandering almost sci-fi sounding pitch, or snappier transitions that land on the exact note. It's a beautifully put-together app with some unique sounds, and I value it as much for its originality as the end "usefulness". I would not want this as my primary instrument app, but as an add-on for unique leads and cool atmospheric stuff, it's great.
