SnickerFancyPants,
Highly recommend
This app has many features that make it worthwhile. Various settings allow a user to customize to their needs. One of the options is choosing the book one is studying from. I am using a JLPT book and this app allows me extra practice. The JLPT option in the app is also well fleshed out, going beyond JLPT kanji so that there is over 3000 kanji to study. The other thing I love about this app is the accuracy in tacking my writing. Whether I use my Apple pencil or a finger, the app accurately tracks what I’m writing. The most important thing is that I also want to use the app. The interface is clean and its simplicity encourages me to open it up and study.
Mikael Ben,
Pair with WaniKani for Ultimate Power
For the low price of nothing your could get a better kanji script practice app than any of the subscription apps out there. I just hope this app continues to get updates. I would love to be able to sync between my devices.
hydraulion,
Very helpful
I'm early in my journey into learning japanese and this has been really helpful so far! I just wish I could see what I was actually writing- as it stands you can only see your actual lines if you mess up. All other times it just auto-traces the pre-written character which is useful at times but it would be nice if there was an option to switch the tracing off or at least to see what you actually drew after you get it correct
🤷🏾‍♀️🐸😶,
Pretty good
Overall, I've had a good experience with this app. It's good for repetition and practicing writing, and there are lots of customization options for the experience.

It's a personal issue, but I would really appreciate is a list outside of the practice area showing the handwritten version of the characters that the app is looking for. Hiragana like ri, ki or sa have been messing me up because I'm only used to the PC/book font versions.

Incredibly helpful
The best feature of this app is the way it handles the learning process. It's just the right amount of work every day and the algorithm that chooses the exact kana is amazing. I constantly learn and never feel overwhelmed.
photoalex,
Part of my daily studies
I use Ringotan along with a handful of other apps and websites to make a daily Japanese practice. I enjoy it a lot, it’s definitely helping me with Kanji writing and Kanji memorization.

Possibly the best free kanji app currently available.
And I’m excited to see it improve!
Leo1619,
Simple and works well
This app deserves more praise! I needed a simple SRS for me to practice handwriting, and this does exactly that.
スッライ,
Amazing Study Application for Writing Practice!
It’s basically Skritter (a popular Anki-like for learning and practicing writing the kanji) except it’s not predatory because unlike Skritter, this app has no subscription fee. ^^ Highly recommended! I hope you’ll leave a positive review for this app too to help promote it and support these kinds of ethical developers. You can pick your starting level by the way if you already know how to write some kanji. :D Anyway, the app is easy to use with a simple UI, looks pretty nice, and more importantly teaches you to write the kanji in the context of real compounds that use the words as well as helps you to remember how to write each of the kanji using those compounds as prompts. It starts out teaching you how to write new kanji by tracing, before giving you hints on the stroke order, and eventually it slowly fades out those stroke order hints entirely and will have you write the kanji solely from memory. Like Skritter your strokes snap into place (but you can turn off in the settings) which is really pleasing to my eyes and makes writing more fun. Thank you so much for making this app, Dev! 🥹Please accept my 5 star review! One improvement I’d like to see in the app is to have an option for the read aloud prompt that queues each kanji to be randomly selected each time the kanji shows up. Having the first prompt always be the exact same compound for each kanji lacks challenge and it’s the only major quality of life improvement I feel is lacking here. I’d also love to have more options to filter and sort through learned kanji as well as easily scan ahead the new upcoming kanji in our lessons without actually starting a lesson as right now the options for doing these things are very basic and limited in scope.
kayagiri,
Makes writing and reviewing kanji a pleasure
A really easy app to use, to learn strokes and review kanji. I think it’s great!
