Great for Kayaking
This app does exactly what I wanted to track my kayaking trails. I saw a previous review stating "waste of money for kayaking," but I decided to try it anyway, since the screenshots and description fit what I wanted perfectly. I'm glad I did.

It maps my trail, and has a setting to automatically exclude the time I am not moving - such as getting ready to launch or once I've beached at the end. This gives me time to put my phone in its dry box, get ready to launch etc, without damaging my average speed time. Love that!

It keeps constant track of my speed, and can display it on a graph that I can scroll through to see all my highs and lows. My pause points are recorded as well. It records distance, time, average speed and maximum speed - everything I wanted.

It does NOT record stroke count, so maybe that's why the other review was negative. I don't care about stroke count - I just want how fast and far I went, with a neat map and graphs, and this app delivers.

I tried Motion X, but found it confusing to use, and half the data such as average speed was not even calculating. This app replaced Motion X, as well as Runkeeper and Map My Hike on my phone.

Everything on this app is working. It's a say to use and well thought out. I couldn't be happier. This will also be my go-to app for hiking, as it also tracks altitude (which I shut off for kayaking). Overall, awesome job. Well with the $4.99.
HBOnowIsTheWorst,
GPS is great Apple Watch Heart rate Pairing is not
I use the app for kayaking and it’s great getting the statistics and route information, but when I try to pair the health settings with my gen 5 Apple Watch the app crashes.
Heads I win, Tails you lose,
Best tracking app EVER!!!!
Nov 30: I have yet to have a problem. I have used this in many areas and it has yet to lose gps tracking. I absolutely love this app and I love that it helps keep me motivated! I highly recommend this to every one looking for an awesome app!! I hope it never changes. The anti-clutter and not running on social media is still the best parts :-)

Oct 22: still loving this app. No problems, yet. Honestly, I would pay for this app especially if it stays exactly the same! I love this app and I keep recommending it to people I see :-D

Edit: months later and I still love this app. It's the only one that keeps me motivated because it is simple and easy to use. I still highly recommend this app!!!!

I've used many tracking apps including mapmyrun. This Routie app is way better. Never I repeat, never drops signal, doesn't mess with my music player, doesn't change things on me or any problems.
If you are serious about tracking your walks, runs, bike rides and such, this is probably the app for you. And the recent update even added in coaching if you want it.
I also love that this app is not run by social media. I thank you so much for that. I hope this app stays this wonderful!!!
Thanks for making an awesome tracker app!!!
ovalteen,
really, really well designed app for just about any activity!
Routie is excellent! It's obvious a lot of work went into creating it as there are a feast of features, all clearly accessible and easy to use, but you can also disable anything you don't want/need. So, it's as comprehensive or as simple a tracking app as you'll find. Maps are clear and easy to read when on the move, plus have great details like foot trails in recreation areas and coastal shoreline landmarks. You can save a plethora of information about each track you create. Works with other devices (Watch, Pebble, heart rate monitors), integrates with Apple's Health, provides audible feedback (speed, time, distance, even altituded if device is capable) during session if you want. Good stuff!
lawrance,
Just what I was looking for! It's almost perfect!
I love this app. It's almost perfect! It tracks whatever kind of activity you're into. For me, I'll be using it for kayaking, walking, motorcycling and bicycling. I love the fact there are icons for each category. The app works in the background while your screen is off, which is great for saving battery life. The tracking is very accurate. Taking photos and pinning them along your route is genius and I love that you can upload your adventure to Facebook with a single click.

Here are my suggestions to make the app even better:
1) Have a way to show GPS coorinates. (Live and saved)
2) Allow scrolling between photos within the same route. (Instead of having to open one at a time.)
3) Upload the map route to Facebook and also allow user notes before posting.
4) On the details page, create a new line showing 'duration' and 'paused' stats without having to click on 'Distance' and 'Moving' stats to view them. - Also dress this page up some.
MKS_VA,
Well designed app
Great app. Works well for tracking my runs. I like the history feature where you can swipe your finger along the speed or altitude time history bar to see where on your track you were at that time. Two things I wish the app had (hence 4 stars not 5): a way to display speed in minutes-per-mile instead of mph or kph, and a way to disable the app from asking about importing/exporting to photo roll. I find it annoying that when I want to check how far I ran, I need to click on recurring pop up windows asking me to import photos.
JWBrown,
Simple, easy to use, highly recommended
I surveyed a number of sports GPS apps, and the general theme is bloatware. All I want is a GPS tracker from which I can post maps of my canoe trip or bike ride onto Facebook - which I find to be a great motivation to get out there. Maybe take some pics and post these along the mapped route. Routie is clean, simple, and gets the job done without a fuss. No need to set up an account (the app does it itself for hosting data from your trips), no monthly subscriptions, no IAPs, no complex configuring or set-up.
Simple is good, and this app fits the bill.
Ane358.,:,
No worries about being tracked
Update (****): I was initially concerned with the Always On tracking, but after talking to the developer I am quite satisfied that is not being abused. In fact I would say based on what I've learned that I'm excited to use this product and support the developer. My last star is only reserved for after my next mountain bike ride.

Original Review (*): It's a real shame the only tracking options are always or never as opposed to most apps that allow you to only be tracked when you're using the app.
