Description

All new version, built from the ground up using Apple's standard, master-detail style for full compatibility with iOS functionality including Dark Mode.

Even if you don't own the desktop version of Save the Cat!®, you can still use this amazing tool, touted as the "secret weapon" of the working writer, to help build better, more powerful stories, with greater resonance and emotional impact.

Whenever your creative juices start flowing you'll have this revolutionary app, which is based on Blake Snyder's best-selling books and software, at your fingertips. You'll delight in the ability to structure your screenplay, teleplay, stageplay or novel the Save the Cat!® way.

By incorporating the methods, tips and tactics found in the Save the Cat!® series of books on story structure, this application will help you to:

* Develop a powerful Logline and Title
* Choose one of the 10 unique Save the Cat!® Genres
* Complete a Blake Snyder Beat Sheet (BS2) with variations for screenplays, novels, and 1/2 hour and 1 hour tv episodes.
* Use “the Board” to create cards for each scene and arrange them in the perfect order and to track character arcs and other important aspects of your story. Just long-press on a scene or other element in the Board then pick what you want to insert at that point.
* Add sequences to combine multiple scenes.
* Add labels to the Board to keep track of important points.
* Create Emotional Changes for each and every scene
* Create Set-ups and Payoffs as your protagonist progresses through the story

Sync your files across devices. This is a manual process so you're in complete control as to when you post and download your changes. Just create an account and login on all your devices. If you had a Save the Cat! account for the website or for when you purchased STC, that will not work here. You'll need to create a new account.

You can even add one or more writing partners to your project and sync your changes with them if you have the Premium or Pro level. Enter the username for their new STC account.

The free version allows you to add projects and work on your title, logline, genre, and the beat sheet. Many of the features listed below require an in-app purchase.

Essentials has all the basic functionality you need to develop a screenplay, novel, or tv episode with characters, locations set-ups, and pay-offs.

Premium adds the ability to track things or objects, and relationships. You'll also be able to develop a novel by chapters instead of using a beat sheet.

Pro adds the ability to develop an entire series of movies or novels that use all the same characters, locations, things, and relationships and to track their stories across the entire series. You can also develop an entire tv series with multiple seasons.

Other cool updates include the ability to have multiple versions of your beat sheet and multiple versions of your board for each beat sheet.

Much improved script typing. And, if you're working on a novel, just type in your manuscript with proper formatting.

All new facts section keeping track of important facts ("Bible" for tv writers) for characters, locations and other entities.

Add important elements for characters, locations and other entities that you need to track through the story. Add the character or entity to the Board and track those items through the story.

As always you can add attachments such as photos, pdf's, and other important research documents so you have everything at your fingertips.

You can now export your script to Final Draft or Word. Or, if you're a novelist, export your manuscript to Word. Of course, you can open the Word format in Pages. On the title page of your project, tap the Share button and you'll see the options available. If you're working on a series, when you open an individual story/episode, you'll see the share button on the title page.

One known issue regarding exporting your manuscript to Word is that the double-spacing doesn't seem to export. The functionality to create the Word file is built in to the OS so not sure why it is not carrying forward. But, once you have it open in Pages or Word, it is a simple matter to set the formatting and move on.

Misha Penelope,
Marvelous Tool!
This is the sort of application any novelist may hope for (along with the book, Saves the Cat Writes a Novel). Personally, this was the very tool I was hoping to find after reading the corresponding book!

It is simple, sure, albeit this is one of those instances in which simple is all that is necessary, for such a tool will make sure all of the needed components are there, so that you can create a compelling story: how to ensure you capture & keep the attention of your readers is found within these tried-and-true blueprints.

…If one is unfamiliar with story formulas, described in Saves the Cat Writes a Novel, this app may not seem helpful. Thereby it is best to either read the book first, or research what each ingredient is independently (& understand it) before proceeding to utilize this application as an outlining tool for your story.

So appreciative of both of these tools; they are essential to all writers who’d like to know the winning recipe for a wonderful & impactful story.

Thank you Saves the Cat team!
Atcgardener,
One of The Best Writing Apps - worth a look
In my opinion, every writer should give this version of Save The Cat a try., even if you tried a prior version, this new version has been massively expanded.

This iteration of Save The Cat has pretty much everything you could want in a writing app.

Every section is well thought out with all the drill down detail needed to organize a screenplay or novel. Beat sheet, scene and character creation with relationships works flawlessly. Even Locations, Objects, setups and payoffs are all tightly integrated into the app.

This is one of the few ports of an app that rivals the desktop version. My hat is off to the Blake Snyder team.

I also think the upgrade functionality unlock is well worth the money, and competitively priced, given the content.

Indispensable for a Writer
This is one of my most used pieces of software. If you’re a writer in any medium, this is an indispensable program! It helps you organize and solidify your plot so that you’re about as organized as you can be when you finally begin to bring your creation to life. This in combination with the book of the same name have proven to be two of the most useful things I’ve ever owned.

Excellent for Structural Foundation, But There Are a Few Concerns
While I love this app, as it makes outlining a breeze, I am confused to why there are less than 40 beat/scene cards on the Blake Snyder Save the Cat Board template. The book heavily suggests writing 40 cards. I know I can add cards wherever, but I find this part a bit confusing. It makes me concerned about the Board feature.

Also, I really wish there was a printable option. It would be so nice to finish the Beat Sheet or Board and physically print the outlines to work from.
66johnny,
Great Improvement Over Previous Version
I like the decisions made in this new version of the software. I’ve been using it for a few days now and I already find it to be a great improvement over the previous version. I definitely recommend it for anyone who appreciates Blake Snyder’s approach to screenwriting.
Roses$ForDays,
Love
I’m just new to this app,I have many ideas and I don’t have the money to unlock all of the features and as the other people have said, this is really good.

I feel calm once I installed this app,it gives me more of a wide range of creativity as I deal upon writers block all the time.

Many of my ideas from when I was young could come to life soon and I’m happy for it,I am an independent artist, could be any art as I am very creative,I will even recommend this to someone they might find it useful.

😄
j-say,
Great but please add Scrivner Export
The new version is much better and love the export options. Many people use Scrivner for novels though. If you can export to it and utilize the cards in Scrivner for the scenes, it would be amazing.

Issues for Apple computer users
Love the book!!! And wish I had the book before I finished the first draft of my book. So I purchased the Save the Cat desktop software a few months ago for my Mac. Then the app started to get glitchy & unresponsive. And tech support wasn’t able to resolve my issue. Downloaded the app on my iPad thinking it might work better & tried to sync my desktop project to my tablet via the app but but kept running into issues. 🙁
mlbdc,
OK so far; needs a minor QoL update
Really enjoying and appreciating this app so far, as I'm a total newb to screenwriting. I'd love to be able to increase the font size so that I can actually see what I'm typing, though! Please consider!
Non-Obviously Positive,
DISASTER.
Work disappeared for unknown reasons. 72 hours after requesting help, still no response. Am I supposed to be tempted to go all-in with this app or stay with a perfected program (think Final Draft)? If this is supposed to be an integrated methodology, then it’s completely lost on me - and the fault lies with the developer. Too bad too - having a workable alternative would be nice. Save the Cat! Is *not* it.
